One of the books that I attempted to finish reading but failed twice is Edward Gibbon's The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. I started reading it early last year then I stopped. I tried again, then I stopped. I think it is because of two things: it is written as history book (not a novel) and I knew nothing about Ancient Rome.

There are many other great literary works that I already read with ancient Rome as the backdrop. Examples of this are Quo Vadis: A Narrative of the Time of Nero by Hen

Read this for a report in high school. It's been so long ago that I only remember that it was very helpful for my report.
