I don't have a background or education in philosophy. In that regard, this book has proven to be very educational, and enlightening. However, as a fan of South Park, it is obvious that several of the authors are not frequent viewers of the show. Rather, it's more likely that they were students assigned to write based on South Park, and cherry-picked episodes to suit their philosophical views. Still, an amusing read.

As we all know, I am a big fan of the pop culture and philosophy genre. It lets me believe my liberal arts educations was not for naught. Anyway, I enjoyed this book but felt like the political chapters were pretty biased and failed to take into account what was actually going on. You philosophy people did watch the show, right?

I picked up this book for a laugh.... and it is funny, but far deeper into the philosophy than first thought. So I am taking it slow and enjoying it for more than the comedy. I know the south park show will never be the same.
Yes it is clear that this is more a philosophy lesson than what South Park is about But that is exactly why I picked up the book.

It's true that southpark more often than not is trying to explore some philosophical question, they try to make you think about society and about life. It's more than just fart jokes and cursing- there's a depth to that show that not many other shows have.

but sometimes this book takes it too far, sometimes it a little bit of a stretch. They would do better to pick episodes to talk about not topics though they do use the show very well to make the points they want/ need to make.

Well, if you try hard enough you can make an "..and philosophy" book for anything, even "The Brady Bunch and Philosophy." But some pop culture topics lend themselves better than others, and South Park is a perfect fit. Even if you're not a big fan or South Park (or a big fan of philosophy books), but like to constantly re-examine your beliefs, South Park and Philosophy is a fun approach.

While written philosophy is off-putting to many people because it tends to ge...more

Liked it, more about Philosophy than South Park, but still very interesting. Did make you realize that the South Park episodes are actually better thought out than they may initially appear.

While some of the chapters dragged, the overall point was to show us how South Park can be seen as an intellectual show. The creators put more into the show that is connected to philosophy than we think. Interesting read.

i knew south park had some philosophy in it but not this much. a very entertaining read for fans of the show and philosophy.

A very good read. Skims over the basics of various philosophical schools of thought. And if you are a south park fan, it strikes a chord.

Really helpful for some basic arguments in philosophy -- if you've seen the episodes, that is.

It was decent. Some of the chapters were very interesting, but others were horribly boring. If you like philosopy, and if you like South Park, you'll probably think the book is worth a read. If not, you will hate it. Funny enough, the chapters written by the main author were the worst.

Some of the essays are really interesting and sum up South Park quite well, highlighting the fact that that the show does have some depth to it. Others are pretty biased and seem to be written by people to suit their own politcal or philosophical stances. For instance the one where the author tries to justify how South Park is pro capitalism by looking at one or two particular shows. However in other shows it may appear that the opposite were true. South Park laughs at everyone!

So far it's a really good, simple overview of philosophy. Kinda in the same realm as Sophie's Choice. It also explains the limits of humor. Good to know.
