Reading books in a series can have two different effects: either you love the character, or their traits and characteristics grow tiresome, and you know that you need a break. With Suzanne Arruda's Jade del Cameron series I'm glad to say that it was the former effect. I continue to enjoy not only the heroine, Jade, but also the location and history provided in these books. Rather than writing a "cozy" mystery, Arruda has created a scrappy protagonist who while often charging ahead with More...

I picked this book up originally anticipating a light, quick read. This was my first Jade del Cameron book, one which finds Jade in Morocco, attempting to solve her mother's kidnapping and becoming embroiled in a smuggling plot, murder, and the supernatural traditions of an ancient tribe along the way.

Jade's character is strong and entertaining, and kept me reading even as the plot seemed to slip away in some places. The kidnapping plot and the parallel mystery involving the amulet i More...

Book three of the Jade del Cameron mystery series is as fun and intriguing as the first two. In The Serpent's Daughter, Jade finds herself in 1920's Morocco, and true to style, she can't go anywhere without ending up neck-deep in adventure. She's there to meet her mother to try and mend their relationship, but not soon after her arrival, her mother is kidnapped. She traverses Morocco to rescue her mother and deals with multi-talented criminals and challenges all along the way.

Jade i More...

Another very enjoyable read! Suzanne Arruda has created an appealing heroine in Jade del Cameron. She is feisty, daring. clever, and pretty lucky! In this 3rd installment of the series, Jade is in Morocco, reluctantly with her mother. They have a difficult relationship; Jade isn't the daughter Inez wishes for, and Jade feels she is never able to please her. Events move swiftly: Jade's mother is kidnapped, Jade is captured by a set of mysterious miscreants, there's a missing amulet, drug smu More...

This third book in the series was a disappointment after I quite enjoyed the second one. This one was a departure in that it took place not in central Africa, but Morocco. Thus, it eliminated my favorite aspect of the series, the interaction with wildlife in its natural environment. Ultimately, the Moroccan setting proved atmospheric, but the plot was confusing, convoluted, and nonsensical. I thought the writing was pretty bad, too. I'm not sure if the writing is actually worse in this one More...

Another first book by this author kind of book, I will go back and read her first two. Jade del Cameron is a 1920 photojournalist, who rarely behaves as her staid mom wishes. In this episode, Jade and her mom meet up in Tangier, expecting to vacation and search for a horse to take back to the SW USA. Inez, her mom, is kidnapped and Jade begins pursuit. It weaves in the life of the "Berbers", reunites Jade with an emerging love interest, and ultimately restores her relationship with More...

In this, the 3rd in the series, Jade travels to Morocco to meet her mother, who is traveling from the United States to her homeland in the Andalusian region of Spain to buy thoroughbred horses for the del Cameron ranch back in New Mexico. While in Tangiers, the mother is kidnapped and Jade subsequently follows her trail to Marrakech, where she is reuinted with not only her mother, but her friend, Sam Featherstone, and also discovers that Lileth Worthy, the mother of Jade's fiancee that was kill More...

My first Jade del Cameron mystery, which seems a little like the Maisie Dobbs genre of mystery. It was enjoyable, a little mixing of mythology, mystery, murder and Morocco. Apparently this is the 3rd in the series, but I had no problem picking up recurring characters or back story.

Interestingly, I began this on my mother's birthday, and much of the story involves Jade's relationship with her mother, Inez (who gets kidnapped in the beginning of the book, and Jade goes off to find More...

Although I enjoyed this book - especially the setting in Morocco, I must say that some of the plot was really a bit far-fetched. The story has a very slow start and seems to be meandering for a while before the direction and central plot becomes clear.
I hope the next installment is a bit more tightly constructed.

I enjoyed a couple of other books by Suzanne Arruda, and this was a
mystery, but to me there were some things that were difficult to believe, and there was too much emphasize on the spirits, the ones that live in the dark and cannot live with salt etc. The ancient Berber mountain tribe are I found quite interesting.

I do enjoy this series. The setting and the spunky heroine are fun. I wish there was a little less supernatural in the series but otherwise I look forward to reading the rest of the titles.

Fun mystery - great locale, good characters, happy endings. I seem to have read the first book, Mark of the Lion but I don't remember it - a chance to read it again!

I thought it was a so-so book. I like the hero or heroine to use logic and wits to solve the problem rather than brawn, but if you like like period adventures it is all right

I love the Jade del Cameron series! Jade is a wildcat (actually - a lion) and doesn't back down. She's an strong female who always lands on her feet and comes up biting, kicking, scratching, or shooting, depending on what serves her situation. She's also brilliant when it comes to solving a mystery.

I also enjoy the historical settings, whether it's 1920's British East Africa of previous books, or "The Serpent's Daughter" setting of Morocco.

Once again, Arruda d More...

Amusing early 19th C mystery with a rather silly heroine/sleuth.

Didn't think this one was a good as others. Author does her research and cites many period works at the end of the novel, but her tales are a bit shallow.

I really look forward to this mystery series and have happily gobbled this one up. Jade is a fun main character who goes against many 1920s conventions to work as a photojournalist in Africa after her stint as an ambulance driver in WWI. This one focused on her relationship with her proper mother and a dangerous task to track down a sacred and powerful amulet.

This series reminds me of Jacqueline Winspear's Maisie Dobbs character/series...

If you enjoy Elizabeth Peter's story of Egypt in ealry 1900's then here's another author to add to your list. Suzanne Arruda has developed a spunky heroine in the likes of Amelia Peabody. Jade is a reporter in Africa after WW1 who stumbles on mysteries and bad guys and doesn't back away from a fight or someone in need of help. She is delightful, the books well researched and the plots strong. A very good read. This is book 3 and I'm looking forward to the next one.

Jade meets mother Inez in Tangiers, Morocco. They are polar opposites at the outset. Jade is very much the individual and her mother is much more concerned with her status and appearances.

The mother is soon kidnapped and the adventures begins. Travel by car from Tangiers to Marrakech, Bedouin tribes and an expected and unwelcome surprise.

Although I was thrown off by the new setting for this book in Morocco - where there is no safari action - this book was just as well written as the previous books in this series. Jade continues to be a believable heroine in almost unbelievable circumstances (a la Nancy Drew).

This is the newest book in the Jade del Cameron series and it introduces Jade's proper mother, who presents a foil to Jade's carefree spirit. You learn more about Jade and why she is the way she is through her mother. You also see her relationship with Sam Featherstone progress further. All and all, an enjoyable third book in this series!

Very enjoyable. While there were points where I was surprised that the main character trusted the people she did (or distrusted those who seemed to me to be okay), it was a good mystery with good characters. I had expected to be annoyed by Jade's relationship with her mother, but instead the author did a great job with it.

The third book in the series, picks up six months after the last, with Jade meeting her mother in Morocco. Kidnapping and murder abounds as mother and daughter try to reconnect.
With dense writing and detailed descriptions Arruda has created an enjoyable mystery that packs a punch.

I'm completely loving this series. Jade is a wonderful main character who has a great turn of phrase and a knack for getting into the most interesting trouble. Great cozy mysteries for the armchair traveller.
