Double Take (FBI Thriller #11)
The police are convinced that Julia Ransom was guilty of the brutal murder of her husband, renowned psychic August Ransom. But after six months of investigation and media frenzy, she is free of their scrutiny, because of the lack of evidence. One afternoon she walks from her Pacific Heights home to Fisherman's Wharf, alone, unwatched - and, she realizes, happy. Standing at...more

This is a continuing story of Sheriff Dixon Noble and Agent Ruth Warnecki. Dix father in law receives an interesting call from a friend that says after three years of looking, he saw the sheriffs wife in San Francisco. Dix knows he has to find the truth before he can move on with Ruth. Judge Sherlock houses Dix and helps to connect him with women he came to see. Savich and Sherlock also end up with a case in San Francisco involving a psychics widow, Julia Ransom, who seems to have a professional...more

Plenty of Exciting Scenes, but not Ms. Coulter's best.!
Sometimes I enjoy fast paced thrillers, but when I want a well-thought out mystery novels then I read a book by Catherine Coulter. I have enjoyed her FBI series books with Sherlock and Dillon and in "Double Take" is was good to see Cheney and Dix make their return after appearing in Point Blank, which happens to be one of my favorites.

This book completely had my end of the seat!!! Julia's husband was killed 6 months before and she was the one who everyone taught that she killed him. The book starts 6 months after August's death and now Julia is now being threat and someone tried to kill her if it wasn't to FBI Agent Cheney Stone who saved her live. Now, someone really wants her dead and keeps coming after her. The other side is about Christie Noble, wife of Sheriff Dixon Noble who went missing 3 years earlier. Christie's god-...more
This is the second book I've read by Catherine Coulter although Double Take is the eleventh book in the FBI Series. I have to say, I think I enjoyed this one a little more than Point Blank.
It took me a little while to get into this one, just because there was nothing really at the beginning that hooked me in it's claws and pulled me in. Once I did get into it though, I couldn't put it down. I was really surprised by who hired the killer to kill Julia Ransom. At first I enjoyed the su...more

Number 11 in the FBI Thriller series! I enjoyed this one a lot because it is set in San Francisco, and that's where I live, so I got to go hey I go there! Anyways once again, the new romance was totally unrealistic. This is the story of a woman whose (much older, rich, medium) husband died six months ago. The police think she murdered him but can't prove it. Now, someone is trying to kill her. The more interesting part of it was a continuation of the sheriff Dix story and his missing wife Chris...more
This was an interesting FBI - detective story which took place between Virginia and San Francisco. A wife disappeared three years ago from a small town in Virginia and when a close friend thought they saw her during a visit to San Francisco, the search begins. It kept my interest had a good ending.

This is an excellent book. It has so many twists and turns that you can’t help but wonder what is going to happen next. I for one love murder novels where the author gives clues and the readers try to sole the murder. This book has that and I love it. You didn’t know who the murderer was until the end and that’s what I loved about it. The novel had two mysteries in one and was intertwined together. This not one made the novel more interesting but provided action to the book. The characters ...more
What I believe could have been a very good read, turned out to be a bit confusing and dry. The last 100 pages were the best. A story of love lost, renewed love, murder and mystery had the potential to be drop dead gripping. Maybe too many characters that werent ever truly developed? I dont know, I was confused and had to keep wondering who was who. At the end the author used a separate chapter to wrap up each of the main characters. Perhaps if she had done this thru out the book it would h...more
Double Take (FBI Thriller, #11) Catherine Coulter
Suspense/Murder/Mystery
FBI agents Sherlock and Savich are back in this thriller. Julia Ransoms' husband August was murdered. He is not an ordinary guy , he happens to be a medium, he speaks to the dead. She is being fingered in this murder. Special agent Cheney Stone is called in to investigate (with the help of Savich and Sherlock.).
Meanwhile Sheriff Dixon Noble gets a call from his father-in-law Chappy Holcombe. Cha...more

I enjoy reading Catherine Coulter's FBI Thriller series. However, one must remember that its a romance author doing mystery-suspense. I never trully understand how things happen in the end.
We meet Dix, the sheriff from Virginia, and Ruth the FBI agent he cares for (both from a previous FBI Thriller book). Someone is convinced they saw his missing wife out in San Fransisco. Trying to find answers he flies out there to see who this woman is. A parallel story is the psychic's wife/wido...more

I listened to this book on a playaway device while exercising.
This is an entertaining series starring husband and wife FBI agents Sherlock and Savich. I enjoy the comfort of knowing the good guys will win and the main characters will still be alive at the end of the story. Each book in the series has an obvious new love interest. The couple do not like each other at first but then fall deeply in love and live happily ever after (as far as we know).

This was a pretty good book, but not everything was thought out.
I have a few problems with the book in general, not the story so much:
In The Maze we meet Sherlock's parents. Mrs Sherlock is constantly accusing Mr Sherlock of trying to kill her, of having girlfriends, etc. She is completely delusional. Suddenly now she's alright, madly in love with her husband and normal? Also i would like to see Sean more, it seems Coulter uses him as a prop to make little family scenes that warm your...more

This is the first book I've ever read by Catherine Coulter and I only did so because she was on the (extensive) list of Recommends by Amazon.
I thought it was... okay.
I probably didn't pick the best book to start off with. Many of the characters are returning characters. I didn't start off with a good idea of their relationships but she did do a good job of linking them all in a way that is understandable.

Unbelievable...and by that, I mean literally unbelievable.
A rundown of the first chapter: An FBI agent sees an unknown woman get punched in the face, and then the assailant pulls a knife on her. When said FBI agent yells at the assailant, he runs away, after tossing the woman over the side of the pier into the bay. FBI agent, because he's not only an FBI agent but also an honorable man, rescues woman from the ocean, and revives her with CPR. Then, because she tells him to, he doesn'...more

Haven't read Catherine Coulter for a while. This was a nice, easy read -I did guess who the "bad guy" was, but not until close to the end, so that was enjoyable. I like the FBI folks in this series, although having worked around law enforcement people, some of the things they do and say are not really believable... telling a suspect that you have a son? I find that hard to believe - they protect their personal lives completely, in my experience.. Other than that kind of stuff - good...more
I am really starting to enjoy her books. She has several interesting characters in a "who done it" mystery. This book starts out with Julia Ransom, a murdered psychics wife, pushed off of a pier in San Francisco. A FBI agent Cheney saves her and the story unfolds to find her husbands killer. Another story in the book involves Dix Noble, a sheriff, in search of his dead wife's killer. In the end, both stories come together for an action packed, mystery, love story.
I have never liked Catherine Coulter. I tried her once, I can't even remember which book it was and I couldn't finish it because I thought she tried too hard. I don't know. I distinctly remember one FBI agent telling another the basics of serial killers - male, 25 - 35, white, etc. And I just thought it was too obvious, like FBI agents wouldn't be talking to each other casually about that stuff since they already know it. It was obvious she just wanted the reader to know it.

Continuing in the married FBI agents series of Savitch and Sherlock. This one involved a murder of a psychic in San Francisco and the continuation of the missing Sheriffs wife from the last book. (I had been disappointed that had not been resolves in the last novel.) I enjoyed the story a bit more than a lot in the series (I gave it an extra star) although I wouldn't recommend it as a stand alone novel because it is very much a sequel.
Great Plot Great Story.
Catherine Coulters FBI series have been one of my favorite mystery reads, and Double Take didn't disappoint me. I thought the story fit well within the series. I will admit that The Cove was one of my favorites. In Double Take I did like the fact that Ms. Coulter put characters in the story from a previous book. The plot was great and I enjoyed the book and highly recommend it.

I haven't read a Catherine Coulter book since I was a teen - when all of her books were historical romance. I remember liking her then, so I thought I would give her a try again. The book was okay, I was able to guess a lot of the twists and suspense was a little lacking. I have to admit that the two story lines twisted around each other were confusing at first, but I got the hang of it after the first few chapters. At times the writing seemed a bit choppy, but there was enough of a flow that it...more
This was a good mystery. Their are a lot of characters to get straight in the begining, so its better to read the begining in a longer sitting, until you get everyone straight. I actually didn't realize how everything came together until the characters did. It kept me guessing. I will read this author again.
Catherine Coulter is one of those best-selling authors I've never bothered with. Until I started listening to one of her "thrillers" given to me as a gift this past Christmas, I never knew why, but now I do. She's a truly awful writer. Anyone want this cliche-ridden, improbable and unrealistic dud?
These FBI thrillers get better and better. Liked the intriguing way the author combined two murder mysteries into one fantastic thriller. Also liked how Sherlock's family actually get involved. The action is incredible, especially the scenes involving the professional hitman.
It was suspenseful and a good story, but I'm not a fan of monied characters obsessing for 2 pages over the cut of an expensive suit or the over-the-top qualities of an expensive car. What does that do to further the plot? It's superfluous and phony.
This was my first experience with a novel by Catherine Coulter. I wasn't overwhelmed by the plot. Since this is the 11th book in the series, I suppose the first 10 might be better but I am not exactly racing to the bookstore to find/read any of them.
Especially enjoyable since the story takes place in San Francisco, one of my favorite cities. Once again, lots of action and intrigue. Love the relationship between Savich and Sherlock, this time they're visiting her parents.
Same old, same old. However, she solved a mystery from the last book and wove it to mesh with the new plot in this book, which made it interesting since she used old characters. But same old same told.
Audio -- this will be my last Coulter novel for sometime. Psychics gone wild. I find no interest in her stories because there is no character development. It can be read by a broad audience.
