The first thing I can say about this book is that it was short. A 3-4 day book, I managed to finish it in 2 days. Why? Julie Schumacher did such a great job that I couldn't put the book down.

Just before Thea leaves Minnesota to visit her grandparents at the Jersey Shore, her mom gives her a notebook in which she is to write 4 truths every day. It seems that Thea has had trouble telling the truth recently because of a secret she's been keeping. As the book progresses, we learn more about Thea's secret, and also some secrets the rest of her eccentric, extended family have been keeping from each other.
Good characters, interesting plot, and the secrets keep you reading.

I enjoy reading smaller books specifically because, as a writer, I know it is so much more of a challenge to tell a story of depth with fewer words. Not all smaller books are successful, though. Many books, especially those written for kids, sacrifice character development and most lose sight of emotional nuances in the small moments.
This book is not one of those books. The characters are fully realized, each moment is a perfect, poignantly realized morsel to savor. Having grown up More...

Whenever I encounter a novel set on the Jersey Shore, I drop everything and read it right away. Here, 12-year-old Thea is on her annual trip to visit her fathers' relatives in the fictional but credible barrier-island tourist town of Port Harbor, NJ. Back home in Minnesota, Thea has recently suffered a traumatic experience that resulted in the loss of her best friend. Thea has also taken up lying. Her mother sends her on vacation with a blank book and instructs her to write down 4 or 5 true

In the story The Book of One Hundred Truths by Jule Schumacher, we meet Theodora Grumman (Thea) and learn she is a self-proclaimed liar. Sent to the Jersey Shore for an annual visit with her grandparents, her mother has asked her to record 100 truths in a blue notebook. Secrets and lies are the main theme of this book. And, it is through the lies and secrets, that Thea learns the truth about herself.

I thought that this was a pretty good book. It was about this girl named Thea. She had a problem that made her lie frequently. Thea went up to her grandmother's house in new jersey, and believes that the entire situation is not benefiting her at all. Almost every day, Thea has to be around her younger cousin, Jocelyn. While riding around the island, Thea and Jocelyn discover a secret, but face the challenge of finding out what it is.

Thea is going to her relatives' vacation home for the summer. Her mom gives her a notebook and asks that she 'only write truths' in it - 100 to be exact. Do you get the sense that Thea is not the most truthful girl? She winds up watching her younger cousin Joceyln, an odd character that frustrates, yet ultimately bonds, with Thea. As the summer progresses, their aunts seem to be acting odd, so the two cousins begin investigating. Woven throughout the story are the "truths" The

This book was entertaining. At first I wasn't sure what the plot line was, and it seemed to be about just a girl and we wacko family, but I read anyway and it got better.
I've had secrets, like all people and I know how they can eat you alive - especially bad ones. Sometimes it makes you depressed, sometimes it changes you and makes you a different person, and sometimes it makes you lie - just like Thea.

This book was phenomenal. A two day read (kids' book) with great characters. I love Jocelyn and how she always makes her bed perfectly and puts the perfect amount of toothpaste on her toothbrush. I love the grandparents and how Thea relates to them...always doing what Nenna would ask and maybe not doing the same thing when one of her aunts would ask. The Grampa and how he would smile to show he was listening to every word being said. Makes me think of and miss my grandparents oh so much. T

Twelve year old Thea spends a few weeks every summer at her grandparents' house. Before going this summer her mom gives her a notebook and tells her to use it to write 100 truths. One problem is that Thea is a liar. Another is that several cousins are also staying and she has been charged with looking after nosy, 7 year old Jocelyn so she has little privacy. Thea is also keeping a secret that involves her former best friend. She soon discovers that she isn't the only one keeping secrets.

There isn't much to say about this book, except that you will never forget it. As soon as I made this account, I began thinking about great books that I have read over the course of my lifetime. This was the first book that came to mind, even though I read it a few years ago. The story is so addicting and suspenseful. I finished the book in just one rainy day, and I wanted to start all over and read it again. I don't want to make this review a "spoiler", so I'll finish off by saying th

Thea is a liar, and so, when she is sent to her grandparents for the summer, her mom gives her a notebook and asks her to write one truth a day. Well, it turns out that Thea wasn't always a liar, but something happened between her and her best friend, and now she is finding it difficult to deal with people.
I picked this book because the setting is the Jersey shore, and it reminded me of my childhood, spending vacations in Seaside Park.

I was ok. It's summer. There was a girl named, Thea, and how she lies. Her mom gives her a journal and gives her the task to write 100 truths. They all have to be true. No fibs. Her mom says Thea might find something out about herself at the end of the journal. She is going to her Granda's and Nenna's house for some of the summer. Her cousin, Joycelyn, is there. Joycelyn wants to know what's in Theas "Diary". Thea doesn't want her to know. Will she find out something at the end of her

Thea Grumman has become a liar. She didn’t set out to be a liar, just a secret keeper. But to keep her secret safe, she started to lie. To cure Thea of her lying ways, her mom and dad give her a journal just before leaving for an end of summer trip to visit her family on the New Jersey shore. Thea’s mom suggests that she use the journal to record things that are true. As Thea prepares to board her plane, her mom tells her, “You’ll be gone for three weeks. Twenty-two days. If you write down four

I read this book because several teachers said they use this book at the beginning of the year as a read aloud and then have their students write "one hundred truths." The writing was a bit distracting (the author would stop it the middle of something important in the plot to tell me that a drip of syrup landed on the main characters arm...WHO CARES?!!) but the overall idea of the book was interesting. Students who like realistic fiction would probably enjoy this book but I can't see m

Although this is a pretty good story, I was a bit disappointed by this book. The characters were well-written (I especially liked 7-year-old Jocelyn) but the writing was a bit choppy and uneven. 12-year-old Thea is to keep a journal in which she writes only truths while she is visiting her grandparents (and extended family) at their beach house. Through her journaling of truths, we discover a tragic truth that has propelled Thea into lying. A good read for 9-13 year old girls.

This book is about a girl named Theodora. She doesn't always tell the truth. When she goes to visit her grandparents house her parents want her to write in this journal they gave her. What she has to write in it is 5 truths each day. When she gets to her grandparents house they play this game at dinner that you have to guess which order everyone is seated in.

This is a book about a girl named Thea who always leaves her mom and dad in the summer to vist her famiy. Thea thinks her parents send her there because they don't want to deal with her. This year Thea's mom makes her write one hundred truths because she lies a lot. When Thea gets there she has to baby sit her cousin. Thea dosn't want anyone to know about her book.

This book is about Thea, a liar. She begins lying as a way to cope with a tragedy involving her best friend. When she goes away for her annual summer visit to her grandmother, her mother gives her a notebook and tells her to use it to write "100 truths" before the end of the summer. The book of 100 truths provides a flimsier spine for the story than you'd expect, and it seems to be there purely so the author can tantalize us with whatever the "tragedy" is. The plot felt thin,

Totally enjoyed this book. Although it's based in the modern era, it has an older-time feel because of it's slower pace, slower than most of the YA novels right now, anyway. Imagine the pace and introspect of Walk Two Moons with the mystery of Silent to the Bone, the guilt of Speak, and a bit of crazy family (from??), and you've got The Book of One Hundred Truths.

The main character has a secret. She doesn't want to talk about it. Her mother gives her a notebook in which she is to write 100 true things. Over the course of writing in her notebook, she slowly finds the words to talk about what happened, as the reader gradually puts together the pieces of her story.
It was a compelling book, and I liked the way the author revealed the story in pieces.

A sweet story with some memorable scenes. Julie's family is loving but also really flawed. She is keeping a secret from her family, and the burden is slowly self-destructing. It's Julie's journey of learning to share her feelings with others as she grows up.

This book kept me entertained while I did my hall-monitoring duty, but I was disappointed in the ending. After all the anticipation and leading I guess I was hoping for a more exciting "secret" than the one that was unravelled.

This is a great young adult novel. I enjoyed the mix of family secrets and the lesson of the imoportance of telling the truth. A wonderful story for kids and parents who think they need to hide things from each other.

The Book of One Hundred Truths is ok . I dont mean to compare, but it was absolutly nothing like Flipped or the Hunger Games, two books that I really enjoyed. The difference in the author's style made the difference, but it was still amazing for the way the author wrote this. The book is really for 6th or 7th Graders, I believe because it is about a girl who has to write truths in a journal that her parents give her. It is ok and I hope that other people who read it like it as much as I did.

I really don't like the plot. the plot is pointless and I don't think someone would lie that much. The book isn't interesting at all. Overall, it is the worst book i ever read!!

I can't say that I actually read this whole book. It started getting pretty boring, so I skimmed a lot of it. I was hoping for a biggger ending than what I got.
