A brilliant mix of mystery, magic, crime, evil goings on, human relatiomships and complex characters. Add in some good descriptions, a compelling pace and a real sense of place and you get an excellent book. An absolute pleasure to read.

Read in September, 2007
I enjoyed this more than I liked "The Wine of Angels." I appreciated Merrily's vacillating state of mind as she struggled to resolve her calling with the reality of life in the modern era.
