This sits on my bedside table for a light read before bed. I internalised most of this stuff at uni 15 years ago but I never read McNeill's seminal work cover to cover. Nothing new for me but a great start for anyone lookign to get away from the 'great man' theory of historical development.

Dated (written in the 1960s), but still an excellent attempt at a single volume history of the world. Generally an example of the Eurocentrism of the times in which it was written, but some Asian and American history is included in the work.

I knew so little about this worlds history, this book scanned through the entire known history of human kind in 400 pages. Its a good entertaining read.
