One More Bite (Jaz Parks #5)
It's Jaz Parks. I've already smoked the guy who was the pain in the CIA's you-know-what for the past few years. But now, in the power vacuum left by the death of Edward "The Raptor" Samos, a struggle for supremacy has begun between his former allies.

Now that Samos is dead, those left standing are scrambling to gain power. Jaz and Vayl's bosses feel that the balance should be kept, so their latest assignment is to stop the assassination of one of the rising powers. Posing as a bunch of ghost hunters they set off to stop a very gifted female assassin with some nasty powers of her own. To make matters more complicated, Jaz's dad has somehow wormed his way into the mission and for the first time ever, Vayl was denied a request by the CIA....more
This is the fifth book in the Jaz Parks series by Jennifer Rardin. I thought it was a good addition to the series and I really enjoyed reading it.
In this book Jaz and Vayl are sent to a Ghost Convention to stop the assassination of one of the heads of a coven in the area. Jaz's dad ends up tagging along on the mission and Cole is also part of the party. Jaz gets dragged into some interesting situations with the local demons, ghosts, and witch coven. It would be pretty hard to top book 4 in the series (Bitten to Death) without breaking from the genre; One More Bite doesn't try. It stays firmly in the "good, fun romp" and advances the relationship(s) more than the characters, although we get a lot of very good info on the Eldhayr--the society of revenants she joined--and interact with one other than Raoul, her mentor/boss/whatever.

I love the characters in this book, all of them are so interesting. Not the best writing, nor the best story line, but the characters, they carry the book fantastically ! I could read it many times and not get enough. JR's novels just get better and better.

Ah, Ms. Rardin. You have finally delivered unto me an action-packed story with a plot that makes sense and characters that possess depth. And with One More Bite, my reading this series feels justified.
This book is filled with twists and discoveries that kept me reading well through the night. Jaz's menagerie of imaginary friends only interjected when necessary or for brief amusement, Vayl finally seemed more real, and Jaz is swiftly pulling herself out of the mists of denial. Having...more

I have to admit, I really love these books. I'd give them a five, but I don't think *everyone* should read them -- only red-headed women with a flair for romance, violence and cool weapons. Being one of those, though, I can't imagine many books more suited to me.
In this one, Jaz (again separated from Cassandra, for plot purposes -- it's hard to write a seer into a book!) and Vayle, accompanied by Cole and (surprise!) Jaz's father, head to the Scottish Highlands to prevent the assas...more

It just keeps getting better! I adore Jaz and Vayl, they are incredibly hot together. Here's a bit of background on the mains and supporting cast.
Jasmine is a smart, sassy, short fused, emotionally disturbed, crazy CIA agent. She feels responsible for the loss of her old team, including her fiancé, and her sister-in-law and continues to punish herself by keeping the people in her life at an arm’s length. Jaz has a little siste...more

Since Jaz and Vayl's team managed to destroy the Raptor his allies have been fighting amongst themselves to see who is going to take his place. The CIA are trying to maintain the balance so when they discover that someone has hired a hit woman to take out the coven leader of one of the main groups they decide to send Jaz and Vayl to stop the hit. So the team is going on a trip to Scotland and they're going to have their work cut out if they want to stop the mercenary in time.

Why do I continue to read this series? Seriously. This is book five and Jaz and Vayl have STILL not gotten it on and it's starting to seem farcical. There was a moment where I thought, what ELSE could the author throw in the way of these two so that nothing ever happens? Does she not understand this relationship is the ONLY REASON anyone is reading her books? The plots are thin and uninteresting, and usually don't make any sense (especially this one). At the end of this novel there was a "f...more
Another great installment in the Jaz Parks series. This one find Jaz in Scotland getting ready to attend GhostCon. Accompanying her is of course Vayl and this time we get Cole (who was absent for most of book 4) and we also get Albert who hasn't been featured too much in the books, just here and there. I enjoyed seeing more of the father / daughter dynamic.

I love love love this series, Jaz is that excellent combination of damaged and vulnerable but totally kick ass and Vayl is just so damned charming you would have to have a heart of stone not to fall instantly in love with him.

In this installment of the Jaz Parks series by Jennifer Rardin our favourite CIA assasin finds herself in the Highlands of Scotland. I had reservations before reading this (since I live in Scotland) and was expecting lots of tartan and stereotyping, but aside from some odd name spellings this book could have been set anywhere with a castle.

A perfect book five for those who were waiting for SOMETHING.
I just wish it hadn't ended so abruptly :)
Anyway, with the Raptor dead and the ghostly Scottish highlands as a backdrop - the next mission should be easy-peasy right?
Nope.
With enough magic to make you despise even Ronald McDonald, Jaz and the team (sans Bergman and Cassandra) with a new addition of Albert, are up against ghosts, obsessive love and a dead enemy who isn't quite...more

I loved the family dynamic in the latest book of this series. The interaction between Jaz and her dad was cracking me up. We have known Jaz's thoughts about her father and family the whole series, but it was interesting to really see how he felt about her. And for her to realize it. I also loved to hear how Jaz just couldn't sit still on her recovery, I can just see her going crazy. It is these little things that make her so likeable. I also like how her and Vayl's realtionship is progress...more
Took a little time to get past how the main character talks in cliches but ultimately the storyline was interesting & the characters had page turning chemistry. Totally mindless entertainment but believe me when I say I burned through this series. The cliches come less and less as the characters develop throughout the series.

I am so glad that I have kept reading this series. This book is the best of the series. The story kept flowing this time, without too many "flashbacks". I also enjoyed the development of Jaz's relationship with Albert. It was good to see issues resolved. Also, it was great to see Jasmine & Vayl's relationship grow and develop.

This installment of the Jaz Parks series finds Jaz, Vayl, Cole, Jack the dog, and Jaz’s father Albert on a “trip” to Scotland. Their mission: Attend Ghostcon at a creepy haunted castle, stay at an equally haunted but charming B&B, and find out who is Bea, the Medusa assassin. Of course, this isn’t the only mystery…
Cue the Scooby Doo theme music…
Come on, I couldn’t resist. Ghostcon? Haunted Castles? Scotland? Witches? Hidden identities? Did I mention that there were ghosts?

It's been a long time since I read the previous book of this series so I'd forgotten its trademark atmosphere and action. The mystery of it keeps you guessing along with the protagonists who the bad guy really is - or which of them the mission is about, anyway.
Jaz is slightly psychotic and she knows it. Her internal monologue (or even dialogue, since she's got several people living in her brain) is very entertaining and her one liners are pretty damn funny at times.

Jaz, Vayl, Cole, and we can’t forget Jack, head off to Scotland and GhostCon to intercept an assassin before she can make the hit on a powerful coven leader and guess what? Jaz’s dad, Albert, is along for the ride! Which is a major buzz kill when flames finally start to ignite between Jaz and Vayl. Do some people have the worse timing or what? Then come to find out the coven leader they are suppose to protect is one evil old witch, literally, so do Jaz and Vayl want to stick with the origi...more

This is a Series Review:
A kick-ass heroine, a hot vampire boss, quirky and fun sidekicks and a lot of action and adventure… What else can you ask of an Urban Fantasy series? The Jaz Parks series by Jennifer Rardin definitely has all that and so much more.
Jaz is an assassin’s assistant for the CIA. She works for Vayl, a Vampire who was killed by his Vampire wife almost 300 years ago. From the start we get to see that they have a great...more

The team is in Scotland on this assignment, and Jaz's dad (Albert) is along for the ride. As you can imagine, mucho additional frustration ensues. Things are heating up between Vayl and Jaz, and it appears that Samos may not fully be dead. Is that annoying or what? So the baddies are a specific sect of witch known as Scidairan and they're into some serious black magic--essentially death magic to help them achieve some measure of immortality (at least as originally stated, but later it sounds...more

This one was another that strayed from the group that had become the norm in the first three books, BUT it was much more enjoyable.
I think I just really like Cole. haha.
This book has a lot going for it.
1) We're in Scotland.
2) We're at a Ghost Lovers/Hunters Convention.
3) Cole's back.
4) Albert (Jaz's Dad) tags along.
5) Jack the dog!
6) Adored the Jaz/Vayl.
7) Loved the moments with Raoul and learning more about him and that...more

Don't get me wrong I LOVED the story, the humour, the growing relationship between Jaz and Vayl, Cole's eventual acceptance that he can't have Jaz but there was one thing that left me a bit flumoxed. Jaz's dad Albert, he never discovers that Vayl is a vampire. He overhears that Vayl's a vampire a few times, he even sees the evidence for himself, Jaz hints at it as well but he never realises it. I kept waiting for the lightbulb to go on inside his head and for him to make a big thing over the fac...more
I went ahead and re-read the first four books because it had been so long between when I originally picked them up and when I was getting to this one. Plus I had number six on order and was excited to refresh my memory with all the characters.
Unfortunately, I did not find this one to be as good as the first four. The plot was a bit slow (after I picked it up and started reading I realized I'd made it 1/3 of the way through when I got the book last year but put it down and never mad...more

I couldn't get past the third chapter (and only got that far due to a long train ride and lack of other options). This isn't the book for you if you're looking for depth in your characters - but if you want an action packed story and don't mind stereotypes rather than characters, you might enjoy it.
Not my cup of tea - I couldn't get past the actual reference to "Vampere", which is way too stereotypical and campy for me or the main character that fed on every possible stere...more
