Some of the references are a little outdated now (esp. regarding megapixels and screenshots of software). Still, this is about the best basic photography book I've read. For people who want to go beyond the automatic settings on their cameras, it explains concepts like aperture(fstops)and shutter speed simply but effectively. Also gives tips for taking photographs of different subject types and in a wide variety of situations. Concise but very effective.
