I had totally forgot this until a friend mourned that "nobody reads Chesterton" and BANG this popped up from an unused neuron in my brain. So this is a re-read, courtesy of my public library. Historical Note, The elderly hardcover my library sent me was published in 1967 by Darwen Finlayson, Beaconsfield, England and cost $3.50.

The biggest pleasure for me in my rereading was Chesterton's language - witty without cynicism, light without being shallow. He was happy to do s...more

Read in November, 2007
Each of the eight chapters is a mostly stand-alone mini-mystery. Once I caught on, it was fun to try and figure out who the murderer was before the answer is given at the end. Some are missing key info until the end, some are laden with English politics (a little boring for me), but all in all, a short, entertaining read.

Gotta love Chesterton's works - witty without cynicism, light without being shallow. And whatever happened to pursuing a classical education?
