Fill it in yourself. I got some ARCs at a conference and kids snatched them up. Great for kids, not so great for libraries.

I have to admit we didn't get very far in this book, some of it was very funny for kids. The turnoff was the kind of disrespectful language that kids find to be funny... like calling people ugly or talking about farts... not something I want my kids to read, since I don't want them talking like that.

I have thought of revising my review since kids like it so much and it encourages them to read. I know my 7 year old son loves it and I finally let him check it out from the library... he and my 5 1/...more

I don't think this was interesting. But the part that I got to write my own story was quite fun.
I didn't really understand why so many people liked (loved) this.
In my opinion, I didn't enjoy it as much.
I think that this book might be more for the smaller kids...

Last night I took every one out to let them spend twenty dollars each as part of their christmas presents. This book was one of the books that my daughter picked out. She has been having all kinds of fun sitting quietly and writing in it!
Last night before going to bed I read what she had written and was laughing so hard at some of the things she wrote! This book is adorable and it also allows us to see what our children think about things we may have never thought to ask. I plan on getting my so...more

Ah! Remember those middle school days? For me it was loopy earrings, banana clips, the girls with the perfect perms and spiked bangs. Not to mention, the social clicks, health class, and the giggles when a boy talked to you. Diary of a Wimpy Kid is laugh out loud funny. Jeff Kinney reminds me of those days in middle school and by the lives of my own 11, and two 13year olds not much has changed. Kinney has brought these awkward years much needed comic relief through cartoons and Gregg Heffley, a...more

This book is a wonderful mentor text for 3rd graders! It gives short stories (in comic strip form) with characters that are recognizable over time. Then it gives a series of pictures with empty bubbles for kids to write in their own funny little stories. Then it gives empty boxes for kids to be completely creative. It asks kids to draw a floor plan of their room, then a floor plan for their dream house. It shows how to draw stick figures with expression and has them answer questions about themse...more

Well now, this book turned out to be a terrific surprise! One might look at this Do-It-Yourself edition of Jeff Kinney's wildly popular series and label it a knockoff merchandise item, but that would be far from accurate. While it's true that the second half of the book is made up of blank pages to allow the owner to use it as his or her own personal journal (not diary, as Greg would remind you!), the first half of the book is comprised of the same kind of brilliant comedic writing that makes t...more

Let’s face it: Greg Heffley will never change his wimpy ways. Somebody just needs to explain that to Greg’s father. You see, Frank Heffley actually thinks he can get his son to toughen up, and he enlists Greg in organized sports and other “manly” endeavors. Of course, Greg is able to easily sidestep his father’s efforts to change him. But when Greg’s dad threatens to send him to military academy, Greg realizes he has to shape up...or get shipped out.

Greg and his family and friends, who make the...more

I don't know if I should be allowed to count this for points in my reading challenge, but I did read it and I did look at every cartoon on EVERY page. This may be my favorite of the whole series, if anything because of how it gets the reader involved. And being older, it was fun to answer some of those questions for myself and have a silly nostalgic trip while laughing at myself. (I'd rather be able to laugh at myself over my past than cringe over some of the things that I do.) A couple more ite...more

I would have loved filling this out when I was a kid. I checked this out from the library and some of it had already been answered by a young boy. It was interesting to read that if he was stuck on a deserted island he would want to make sure he had the "Sexy and I Know It" song. He also plans to be a drug dealer that is going to make $40 a year. He also thought that in the future girls wouldn't exist. Also a big portion of his brain was devoted to thinking about beer. All of that was pretty wei...more

this book is funny. its about a kid who is a huge folower anything his friend does he has to do. so one day greg went to his friends and they are eating and his friend throws his food at his dad and misses so then greg does it. he got kicked out of the house that day. one day he thought following is not so cool so then he made his own group of geeks who have to follow him. he gets suspended and he learns from this but still its not smart to follow people its a waste of life as his dad said and h...more

Used this book for a class I taught on the first book, we used this activity book while reading the first book together. It was really useful, and really fun. I really liked that the activities creative and relevant to what kids like to talk about. Plus this book saved me a lot of time, it's basically a ready made class activity book, and it's great for getting kids to share their personal experiences, I think I learned a little too much about the kids in my class :)

It's tough because I don't teach kids nearly the age this would be appropriate for. But this book is just so fun and touches so many good topics I like to talk about. Self concepts, identity, bullying, the terrors of middle school, etc. I really like this book. I recommended this book to my niece, a reluctant reader, when she was in 6th or 7th grade and she loved it. She read the whole series. I also enjoy the drawings and caricatures of the different characters.

i got this for my sister about a week ago. it has some cool activities and near the back it has full- color comics. when i saw this, i thought that it was a pretty good deal because it was so big. but it turns out, that half of the whole book is jast a journal, wich some people might like, but i cinda saw it as a diary with activities included.my sister, whos eight by the way, loves it, so it's good enough for me.

When I first saw this book I thought that It was just an empty book which I have to fill It by writing down the things which happened to me through my day but it was different. There are a lot of things to do in this book you have to answer some questions and you can draw your own comics but I really hated some nasty questions in this book. But almost of the question were OK.

For example when robert(Greg's friend)was suppose to eat a chheze that had stand it the basketball field for a year. I better like Greg, 'cuz his the one who writting in his journal 'bout his friends and school. I suggest this book to Grade 7 and to grade 8.

This was a do-it-yourself book and I have to admit it was very fun and funny. I decided to do this book ver the break and it was really fun filling in blanks and stuff. I haven't completley finished thebook, but I've gone through th entire book reading. I recommend this to readers who like Diary of a Wimpy Kid books and Dork Diaries.

I'd put this book between 3 and 4 stars. I thought it was well done in how it covered what an average 6th grader probably goes through in discovering where they belong in middle school. Although some aspects of middle school are portrayed in a negative light, I suspect (unfortunately) that these are the kinds of things that 6th grade boys truly go through.

My oldest son got this one for his birthday this past summer and has been filling the pages with his own cute, nine-year-old stories. The book is set up with mini questionnaires that you can respond to and then there are blank pages for your own words. It is fun to read what my son has written. It's a super cute idea and the inspiration comes from the book series.

This is not a great book, I think they ran out of things to do sometimes and just said 'practise your autograph here' which I thought was a complete waste of paper, but some things were OK, like getting to make your own comic and your own book. I don't think anybody should bother with this. As someone else said not so great for libraries!
Chris
I checked this out of the library because some previous patron had answered all of the questions. It isn't really a book that you would read. It has lots of places for you to fill in your favorite school days and teachers and what your siblings are doing. It would probably be a really boring book to check out if it wasn't vandalized. The kid that wrote in it was probably about 9 and it made it so great. His older sister also filled out a lot of the diary section and I learned that their Dad was...more

My son really liked this journal. It is very boy friendly. Lots of places to draw cartoons and so on. The back is blank for anything the child wants to write or draw.

If you are a conservative parent, you may not like it. There are questions like "Have you ever eaten a scab?" and a section about practical jokes, etc.

Got this for Christmas 2009 and love the format. I answered the short questions in teh following month or two, but haven't yet done the longer answers or any journaling. Writing just hasn't been my thing, but Mom and teachers are trying to get me to do more!

My little sister wants my book, but told Mom to get her her own!

Jeff Kinney was an absolute geniuse for making the book diary of a wimpy kid (do it yourself book.) I think it's a great way to write stuff about you, then open it back up in about....... 30 years from now and see what you were like back then if you foreget. Also if you become famous the book will be worth a fortune.

Based on the books kids LOVE, It's The Diary of a Wimpy Kid Do-It-Yourself Book! This is fun, because it isn't JUST a Diary. It's part writing a book, part journal, part wimpy kid! For elementary school kids, this is a great way to get them writing and keep their creativity moving outside the classroom.
Emily
I think people who usually enjoy hands-on will like this book. It's funny and you get to fill it up at the same time. The comic strips are not for me considering I'm not really good in drawing. What I enjoyed here are the 'mini' activities such as creating the band name, the jokes and the questions.
