Sherry's got typical seventh grade issues. She's not so great at school and she's got a serious crush on Josh, an uber cute eighth grader, and makes an unforgettable impression on him by bloodying his nose. Plus, her dad's engaged to Paula, the math teacher at school, aka The Ruler. But if you're thinking that I SO DON'T DO MYSTERIES is just another book about an everyday teen who just wants to be loved, you'd be so wrong. There's nothi More...

Sherry wants nothing more than for life to go back to normal. Unfortunately, the chances of that are slim and looking worse by the day. Her mother was a Phoenix cop killed during a drug bust. When she was alive, it was always a fight between the mother and daughter. Her dad is getting married to Paula way sooner than expected. Paula happens to be one of Sherry's middle school teachers and is known as "The Ruler" because of her strict attitude and posture. The guy that Sherry has been c More...

Don’t know what to get an almost-teen girly girl?...a girl who rolls her eyes at all things Middle Earth/Hogwarts?...a girl who is just venturing into the world of messy emotions, boys and malls (…and not in that particular order)?

Chuck her a copy of 'I So Don’t Do Mysteries' and she won’t hate you too much.

Sherlock ‘Sherry’ Holmes Baldwin has a lot on her plate. Her widowed dad is getting married to her Maths Teacher (no less!), her l'il brother is being a pain as only l More...

How would you feel if you were a rhino and people were trying to kill you? How would you feel if your mom was a ghost and you could talk to her? I read the book called I so Don’t do Mysteries by Barrie Summy. This book is about Sherry (short for Sherlock) and her ghost mother and ghost grandfather who when he died turned into a big old Wren. Now Sherry’s ghost mother and grandfather are part of the Ghost Academy and they were assigned a hard job, they needed Sherry’s help of course! “There is a More...

Sherlock (Sherry) Holmes Baldwin, a 7th grader, no longer has her mom in her life since her mother, who was a police officer, died in the line of duty. But the good news is that her mom contacts her from the other side. In order for her mom to go to Heaven, she has to graduate from the Academy of Spirits. But in order to do that, Sherry has to help her mom solve a crime out in California. Sherry and her best friend Junie help her mother solve the mystery at the Wild Animal Park. Apparently, More...

The book "I So Don't Do Mysteries" is a really good book. It's about a girl named Sherry who's mother has died a while ago. Her dad is getting remarried that weekend to Sherry's math teacher. Sherry's dad said that she had to go to San Diego with them because it was going to be a family vacation. Sherry already had plans because it was Labor Day weekend. After she was told all this,Sherry went to the one place she felt alone and then she started cursing. A woman said "That is not More...

This was fun and fast, an enjoyable light read.

From School Library Journal
Grade 5–8 — With the help of her mother and her grandfather, both of whom happen to be deceased, Sherry Holmes Baldwin is out to stop an evil rhino killer. The seventh grader thought her trip to San Diego to stay with her great-aunt, along with her friend Junie and Junie's cousin, would be filled will sunbathing and shopping. That was until her mother's ghost appeared to her and informed Sherry that she n More...

7th grader Sherry Baldwin (short for Sherlock Holmes Baldwin) is going to San Diego for spring break with her best friend, Junie. Just before she is going to leave her father decides to move his remarriage up. Sherry isn't one bit happy, mostly because her father is marrying her teacher from school, who Sherry despises. Then at the wedding Sherry's mother contacts her. Did I mention that Sherry's mother was a police officer who died in a drug bust? Well Sherry's mom just happens to be a ghost at More...

Her mother was a cop and got killed one night, but contacts Sherry and tells her that she's a ghost who's almost failing the Academy of Spirits and if she doesn't help her solve the rhino mystery, she won't ever be able to see Sherry again.

I think this was a great book because it keeps you on the edge of the chair. Sherry's mom was killed in the line of fire during a drug bust. She is a ghost now who can connect with only Sherry. She needs Sherry help to solve a mystery to stay in the academy she is in. Over spring break Sherry and her best friend Junie go to San Diego. Sherry and Junie go to the San Diego Zoo to find clues about the rhino poacher. While they are hiding out, the poacher tranquelized them. The poacher tapes More...

I like the plot of this overall. Mom's ghost comes to visit her daughter, and needs some help solving a mystery, otherwise she'll be sent to a less than happy afterlife. Daughter is seriously flighty, but resourceful.

It was a fun, light read. The writing wasn't terribly great, and there were some aspects that were a bit annoying. Like the fact that a certain relationship in the book works out amazingly with little effort from either party. And the fact that the character develop More...

The author in I So Don't Do Mysteries It doesen't tell the writters perpus directly but the subject of the book is that it is kind of a mystery but kind of not because the girl in the book doesen't want to figure out the mystery but she ends up solving the mystery with her friends. The style of the author's purpus of the book is so that the girl could have fun with her friends and solve the mystery at the sametime so she doesen't think to much about her parents and her friends.

The first book in the I So Don't Series. Sherry's father is getting remarried to one of her teachers. If that isn't bad enough, her dead mother has just returned as a ghost and tells Sherry she needs her help to solve a mystery so she won't flunk out of the Academy of Spirits in the afterlife. Instead of being a normal 7th grader and spending the summer with friends and Josh, she finds herself in San Diego with her ghostly mother and her dead grandfather (who has come back as a bird) trying to s More...

Sherry was your average teen, she liked going to malls, dreaming of boys, and hanging with friends. But it all changes when her mother (a dead cop) contacts her and needs her help to solve a mystery, but by the cover you see she does not like mysterys. But she helps her mom so she can become an animal figure and walk the earth, watching over sherry and her little brother.

This book was really not meant for my age range, but I read it because a friend wrote it. The book is targeted primarily toward girls of 9-12 and I think it does a good job of speaking to its audience. I felt a bit lost at times because I just didn't get all the references. But I'm not really supposed to. I think young girls would probably feel perfectly at home with the protagonist, and would find the writing very humorous. I certainly got some pretty good laughs myself, so I'm sure it wou More...

What a fun series this promises to be. Sherlock Holmes "Sherry" Baldwin has a pretty average middle-school-girl life, until her dead mother makes contact with her to ask for her help solving a mystery involving rhinos in a San Diego zoo. With the help of her mother's ghost, her dead grandfather (now inhabiting the body of a wren) & her understandably bemused best friend, Junie, Sherry's going to have to figure out who is about to kill an endangered rhino, & stop them. All while dealing More...

This book was a fun read, with a neat twist on the afterlife. What I thought this author did very well was transitions from one chapter to another, the next chapter just doesn't continue on from the last sentence of the past chapter it skips ahead and then fills you in a bit later. It was pretty cool way of keeping the reader on their toes. I really thought the main character was a good role model for middle school girls.

I was rather disappointed in this book. I found it very hard to suspend disbelief enough in order to get into the story. It's about a teenage girl who is called upon to help her mother (who just happens to be a ghost) solve a mystery and save rhinos at an animal park. I was bothered by the fact that the mother was too worried about her own agenda rather than worrying about her daughter.

This was a relatively new book in the school's LMC. I liked this book. The book made me laugh. I know it was meant for 'tweens', but it was a quick enjoyable read for me. The main character 'Sherry' wants to be a normal teen, but when your mother is a ghost and your grandfather is a bird-well she can't be normal either. Again, very fun book to read.

This wasn't a bad book. A nice mystery-style story about a girl who has a ghost mother and has to help her solve a mystery or else her mom will flunk out of ghost school. Cliche, maybe, but still fun. I didn't like, however, how the mother seemed more interested in solving the mystery than in her daughter's safety. But oh well. Still a nice book.

I really liked this book. Funny but cute at the same time. Fantasy with the ghost aspect. Sherry doesn't like to solve mysteries but has to solve a crime in order to keep her mother from flunking out of the ghost academy. Her grandpa (in the form of a bird) helps out. A lot of slang that doesn't ring true, but a fun book anyway.

This is more like a normal girl's life with the addition of a ghost mother. I think that Josh is the perfect guy for her <3 and that this book was wonderful. I personally love mysteries and loved reading this because of the suspense in it. Its a normal girl solving an abnormal mystery. The perfect combination.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Sherry "Sherlock" Holmes Baldwin is the new Nancy Drew. Sherry's mother is a ghost and she needs Sherry's help to stop some rhino's being killed at the San Diego Wild Animal Park. Sherry's grandpa is also there, albeit as a small, chubby wren to help them find the killers.

Sherry's mother died and is coming back as a ghost to visit her daughter and enlist her help in getting into a special ghost academy that will eventually help her get to the "next" stage. The book was stupid. The subject just cookie and then they talk about getting a period. Not for the list.
