I enjoyed this book. Mel Addison is a strong female character, and while she has some baggage, she doesn't have a huge chip on her shoulder that so many other strong female leads seem to have. I like the family interplay (I also come from a family of 1 sister and 3 brothers) and her feeling for her hometown of Quincy. The story is well-paced and the characters well-drawn.

This is the first mystery in a series by a local author here in Boise, Idaho, Angela Abderhalden. I must say I was pleasantly surprised by this book and how much I enjoyed it. The main character, Mel Addison, has recently moved back home to Quincy, Illinois, after the sudden deaths of her husband and young son. Her brother hires her to answer phones for his investigation firm. One thing leads to another before Mel finds herself involed with old friends from high school to a new detective on the...more
A good mystery. Enjoyable but it didn't blow me away or impress me tremendously, but it isn't that I have anything negative to say about it. I quite liked the main character and her struggles to adjust and cope with her grief.
The main character is somewhere between an amateur sleuth and a PI and has cops in the family. So it isn't quite the usual amateur sleuth cozy but she isn't experienced enough to be a PI. That is not very common for the main character.

(publisher/cover designer/typesetter) - The author's debut, QE is a fantastic new cozy mystery with a really wonderful main character, Mel Addision. Mel find herself back in her small hometown after the death of her husband and son. Suddenly she is swept up (not entirely reluctantly) in a murder investigation that gets increasingly complex and dangerous. At the same time, she has to deal with her grief and an attractive man who wants to be more than a friend. The second book in the series is com...more

The second in the series, Unintentional Victim, is due out soon as an e-book. Stay tuned for updates. I live in Idaho right now, but will soon be moving to South Dakota. I have a loving husband, two adorable teenage kids, and a rascally beagle named Kaya....more
