The Secret is a non-fiction book by Australian author, Ashley Hay. It tells the story of the marriage of Lord Byron and Annabella Milbanke. Hay states she began by focusing on all of the women in Lord Byron’s life, but later narrowed it down to concern Annabella and Byron themselves. Ashley Hay’s most recent novel, The Railwayman’s Wife, was released in Australia to critical acclaim in April 2013. It was published in the UK in January 2014. It won the People's Choice award in the 2014 NSW Premier's Prize, for which it was also shortlisted for the Christina Stead Prize for Fiction, and was longlisted for both the Miles Franklin and Nita B.
