I had mixed feelings about The Kite Runner. It tells the story of two best friends, and the aftermath of a horrible incident with one. While the book is very well written and provides some insight into the history of Afghanistan, the main character inspires no sympathy, and is a very training reading. A Thousand Splendid Suns on the other hand is one of the best books I have read. It is about two women whose lives are forever binded when they are forced to marry a brutish man. From the beginning...more

The Kite Runner:
Its one of the best books I have read. Not that I have read too many.Nevertheless, i would still like to share my opinion of the book. There are so many aspects that I really liked about this one. I am touched by Hassan's innocent, undoubting faith in his best friend Amir. 'A thousand times over for you'...is one of the most stirring lines of the book.

A thousand splendid suns:
I had a lot of expectations of this book and had waited quite a long time to get it. Khaled Huss...more

This is an amazing story that is a real eye-opener about how women are treated by extreme orthodox Islamists. Both books made me appreciate the freedoms we enjoy here in America and feel grateful for the life I live. Both books are very well written, but I feel more connected to A thousand Splendid Suns more than I did with Kite Runner because it is about women, love, and wife/husband relationships.
Both are amazing books!

After enjoying the Kite Runner, I wanted to continue to explore the Afghanistan culture, this time through the eyes of women. The author Khaled Hosseini did not disappoint me! This is a rich, thought provoking story. I listened to both of these books on CD and I believe it was easier for me to keep all of the names straight! If you have not read these books, I would encourage you to make time!

Both books are excellent! Well-written, great story. I think I liked Splendid Suns more simply because I could relate more to it - about women in Afghanistan. Makes you appreciate how good you have it. Amazing that a male wrote this book!

I loved both books with all my heart! Both reads are quite psychological from the point of view of several characters within each story.

Both of these books were wonderful. I would have to say that I loved A Thousand Splendid Suns more since I could relate a little more to the two main characters. They were both women and in The Kite Runner the main character is a boy.

I leaned about the loving friendship between two women and how they came together as a team to make life more bearable. They managed to take joy out of their painful enviornment due to their support of each other.

Read in printed form. Good story about the Hazara people and their struggle in Afghanistan. It disturbed me a little bit. I don't do disturbing very well. I didn't read A Thousand Splendid Suns but my husband loved it.

These both were amazing books. I want him to write another. It made me really SEE the plight of the Afgans, especially the least of the society (ethnic groups, children, the poor and women). These are must reads!

I preferred Kite Runner because it wasn't as depressing at this novel, but once again, Hosseini's story is powerful and well-written.

If you loved The Kite Runner, you'll feel the same way about this one. Very moving. Very strong female characters.

I didn't really read 1000 Splendid Suns--I just can't find Kite Runner alone to add to my list. :)
