I have a confession: I like chick lit. I like the kind that's sassy but empowering, and I like the kind that's trashy and playful.

This, on the other hand, was pure awfulness. That trees died to produce this monstrosity, I think, is a shameful indictment of our species.*

It wasn't sassy. It wasn't empowering. It wasn't playful. It was trashy, but not in a good way, and certainly not enough to redeem it. It was mostly annoying, with a shallow, whiny character who only managed to inspir...more

I was nervous when I started reading this one due to many of the negative reviews, but I have to say, I was happily surprised! I just became a fan of the Shopaholic series and I just love Becky & Luke! I really didn't think their relationship was given enough attention in this first book, but it picked up from there and I will have to say the reader really gets to get in deep with their relationship in this book. I have to agree with a previous reviewer who compared Becky to Lucy Ricar...more

Another book in the shopaholic series. Vol. 4. From the get-go I thought the idea of the book was a bit out there. After three okay books this fourth one stinks! Becky and Luke returns home from their honeymoon and immediately, Becky starts trouble - she has once again overspend and the appartment is stuffed with all kinds of things she's picked up during their ten months of travelling. On top of it all, she finds out she has a half sister who's completely different from her, for one thing the s...more

@ the 1st I'm quite worried to read it coz many other people said that this one is not as good as the other series. But after read a few pages, it didn't disappoint me @ all. It's still easy to be understood, funny as usual (even funnier, I can't stop laughing when I read the parts 'bout their honeymoon story and the one when their honeymoon stuffs came and luke is so shocked, he8...)The ending is also great, Becky can get along w/ her sister even though she has to pay for it, he8... and very fu...more

OK, I can't give it a one because I did know going into it that it was going to be chick lit, and I also knew that the main character was a 'shopaholic'... but seriously. Does the main character have to be so stupid? I'm with James (another reviewer) on this one. I like chick lit that is sassy and smart. I like romance novels. While this book had a few points that made me chuckle, overall it was entirely predictable with a main character (and relationships) that I just couldn't care about. I was...more

This is the most boring of all Shopaholic books I've read. I thought Kinsella did the right thing, to end the story when Rebecca got married. I mean, it was a perfect way to finish the trilogy, right? Maybe Kinsella has never heard of 'too much of something is bad enough' (I got it from Spice Girls ;p ) because from the very first pages I've already felt bored. It's just...too much! She got married, so be it! We're not interested anymore! Who cares about a sister? Kinsella should have known the ...more

I can't believe I am still reading this series. I felt like, although there are some funny parts of this books, it probably could have been left out. Becky isn't at all realistic in this one. She just seriously has some major issues. So, if you just want to skip it, here's the summary. Becky gets back to England after her 10 month honeymoon. She struggles with Suze having a new best friend, she discovers she has a long-lost sister, who is polar opposites of her. They don't get along. She...more

I was on a Shopaholic kick for a time.... Shopaholic returns and meets the half sister she never knew she had. A half sister who DOESN'T. LIKE. TO. SHOP. Horror of horrors! Another humorous story about the endearing Becky who tries to be as pleasing as ever to someone who couldn't be more opposite. I couldn't help but feel exasperated for her fictional husband on more than one occasion....what a life it must be to be married to Shopaholic. In the end, though, Becky and her sister both lear...more

After "The Undomestic Goddess", I haven't able to pick up a Sophie Kinsella book in a while. So, you can just imagine how excited I was to finally get my hands on the fourth installment in the Shopaholic series.

In true Kinsella fashion, Shopaholic and Sister is as fun to read as the others. Although, if you ask me, I think this one would be my least fave in the series. Becky was really, really, neurotic here (read: honeymoon "souvenirs" and the "angel bag") and...more

I have long since read three other books featuring Becky Bloomwood, and for some reason I stopped getting Kinsella's books. After borrowing this from a friend with a strong recommendation, I again ventured into Becky's world. At first I thought it was insane that she possessed the same shopaholic tendencies, but after a few pages, I remembered how much fun this endearing character truly is. I don't know why she hasn't made it to the silver screen. This one is good for a giggle.

Much as I love the Shopaholic books (I've read them all) this was my least favorite Kinsella book. I found the sister to be annoying and the protagonist to be more stupid than usual in a less than endearing way. Perhaps I was in a bad mood when I read it. I realize that Becky can be a materialistic selfish creature and I guess most of the time I still manage to find her sympathetic, but for some reason her antics weren't so amusing in this particular volume.

I'm really enjoying the Shopaholic series as a break from my more serious reads. That being said, this has probably been my least favorite of the series. Becky can be quite funny, but ultimately she is lying to her husband a lot and I don't really dig that. Gets on my nerves. That being said, I loved the beginning when Becky and Luke were on their honeymoon. Luke's long hair and relaxed mood reminded me of my husband on our honeymoon. How I miss his beard!

I love the shopaholic series. Becky is always up to no good. Once Becky comes back from her 11 month honeymoon she finds out she has a long lost sister. Becky has these dreams that they will go shopping together, have girls night out, and all the things sisters are known for doing. But of course things don't go as planned and Becky has to get things straighten out. I really enjoyed this book, and I can not wait to read the last book of this series.

Listened to this book on CD on a recent road trip to St George. I needed something light to keep me awake while driving. This series is about a girl who is addicted to shopping, in this book she finds out about a step sister she didn't know she had. The blaspheme got a little old, but that is British for you. It also had a couple of F words that I could have done with out, but all in all a silly book that kept us entertained on the road.

Here is why it was a 3. I didn't remember it. I was reading Shopaholic and Baby last month and I'm like wtf? I know she has a sister she didn't know about, but what happened on a mountain? I just couldn't remember for the life of me. I actually had to physically look to see if I had the book. Yup, I have it. Must not have been to memorable.

But I love the Shopaholics so I can't give it less than a 3.

I didn't actually think I'd like this book as much. It seemed like "Ties the Knot" would be the natural ending to the series. But Kinsella managed to write another wonderful, funny, and touching book! The thing about this series, is that the plot can be secondary to the characters, and when there's a character as fun as Becky, that's perfectly fine.

I haven't had a lot of sympathy for Becky Bloomwood (now Brandon) up to now. But meeting her sister seems to have changed her, and she's more of a person I'd enjoy meeting, and less of a shallow type who's only interested in shopping and designer labels. I recommend this book as the best one in the series. Unfortunately, you should read the others before getting to this one so it makes a bit more sense.

I read this book just to keep my mind occupied the week the final Harry Potter came out. It's the most aggravating of all the shopaholic series because the book sort of jumps the shark. A long-lost sister? What? Just seems like Kinsella is trying to extend the series because after her next book, Shopaholic and Baby, there aren't many life situations to write about. Shopaholic and Retirement? yes please!

The Shopaholic books are rather contrived, with somewhat ridiculous story lines, but they are good for a breezy read. This installment actually seemed better written to me, and the story wasn't as outrageous so the characters seemed more believable. The main character discovers she has a sister she never knew about, and is disappointed to find her sister is nothing like her (ie doesn't love to shop).
