Having grown up with a father in lust with Jamaica, I loved reading the story of a man's love for this small island, and his painful decision to leave his home.
Jamaica Farewell is an exceptionally touching memoir of a man in the process of leaving an island to which he belongs. It was the 1970s, politically a difficult time around the Caribbean, and many of the wealthy islanders were leaving because they saw no future there. Good read...a bit slow at points, but very interesting view of Jamaica back in the day. Interesting fact: Tia Maria was developed and named by Cargill and his business associates.
