Sisters of Misery is an absolutely disturbing and entrancing YA read! My fingers and eyes were glued to this book the moment I grabbed it.
"Don’t look now at the faces three,
The Witch Sisters of Misery.
Close your eyes and hold your breath
Witches of Misery will bring your death.
Shut your windows, doors up tight,
The Witches of Misery come tonight."

Maddie Crane is a New England prep by default, not by choice. It seems that her entire life has been dictated by her mother and her controlling clique of friends, The Sisters of Misery. It has always been easier for Maddie to just go along with The Sisters, to avoid incurring their wrath. She might be nice, but Maddie doesn't have courage. She is always a follower, never a leader.

Hawthorne may be a sleepy seaside town, but historically it is known for the witch hunts that aspired there and the death of three women. Much like it’s neighboring town Salem. The town today, however, seems to be full of modern day bit****, I mean witches!

Sisters of Misery was an incredible novel. Part gothic, part chilling horror story, and part harrowing realistic fiction, this book has it all: mystery, romance, and gosh, a whole lot of suspense. This was one of the most suspenseful books I have ever read. Maddie Crane lives in the small town of Hawthorne, Massachusetts known for its conservative, closed community and its witch trials back in the 1600s. Maddie belongs to the Sisters of Misery, a group of ruthless girls who rule the social scene...more
Something wicked this way comes......and they are the Sisters of Misery, a nasty little group of high school girls residing in the affluent seaside community of Hawthorne, Massachusetts (just a stones throw from Salem). This witchy and exclusive clique is presided over by Kate Endicott who is out to ridicule, demoralize, control or destroy anyone who doesn't "fit" into the posh, powerful and perfect world of her making.

Maddie Crane is a young resident of Hawthorne, a small town with a violent history. Though not as famous as the Salem Witch Trials, the persecution of any outcast female in Hawthorne at that time was just as bad, if not more brutal. Hawthorne’s past carries into the present though, as this small town seems set on not welcoming newcomers, especially Maddie’s aunt Rebecca and beautiful cousin Cordelia. Much of this grief comes from Maddie’s circle of so-called-friends, the Sisters of Misery. But s...more
SISTERS OF MISERY looks innocuous, with a colorful cover and FRENEMIES-esque tagline: Best friends – or worst enemies? Don’t ignore the title. This is a dark tale, the familiar story of the dark depths in a seemingly charming small town. SISTERS OF MISERY incorporates some supernatural elements, and I expect that that aspect of the story will be expanded in THE LOST SISTER.

If it is possible to make the rich look any more vile and horrible than they have been most recently following the near-global economic recession, then Megan Kelley Hall has done so with her slightly fantastic, suspenseful, and otherwise disconcerting novel, Sisters of Misery. Reminiscent of themes we’ve seen before, and the first book in a series (so far there are two books, with The Lost Sister hitting shelves last August), Sisters of Misery makes all those college frat movies about secret soc...more
This book was beyond riveting. Intense, strong, and heart-pounding, Sisters of Misery will keep readers back-hunched and dying to read more. Megan Kelley Hall is an author worth watching out for and stalked for the next release.
Every single last character is a power house that demands attention. Each character is defined by a single word—Maddie the innocent one, Cordelia the wild one, Kate the evil one—but surprisingly each characters carries so much more than that. They have their faults, their...more

I had some very mixed feelings about this book. On the one hand, I felt as though the underlying motivations behind bullying (and those who go along with it) were spot-on. I liked Cordelia's character as well as the grandmother. The story was intriguing and kept me interested to the end. On the other hand, the plot was kind of all over the place. The elements of wicca and runestones, while presented as a major thematic element, were ultimately underdeveloped. Some of the characters should probab...more
At first glance of the back of this book, you think "great. that's all i need. another book about annoying teenage girls being mean to each other and seeing who gets the best guys." But because of my new system of picking out books (which is grabbing random books off the shelf and buying them) I bought this one. As I started it, my original thoughts of the book didn't change. But as the book crawled on, I was more and more interested. This book has an unsuspecting twist. So, it turned to a myste...more
Aren't you nervous when someone is going to come in and live with you?
Maddie Crane is scared and nervous about her arrival cousin and aunt, Claudia LeClaire and Rebecca LeClaire. LeClaire comes to join in Crane because of family accidence. Abigail, Maddie's mother is not excited at all about her sister, Rebecca is coming. She warns her daughter not to get too close to them and it seems like something bad spirit about LeClaires. However, Maddie's grandmother is pleasant about family united.

Meine Meinung ...

Holy terror, you guys! This was one intense book. And I mean intense. We meet Maddie Crane and her cousin Cordelia. Maddie is part of the Sisters of Misery, a crazy group of girls who provoke punishment when they see fit. The Sisters of Misery – minus Maddie – instantly hate Cordelia and start rumors about her. It all escalates on Halloween, and in an effort not to give anything away, the thrill continues.

This was actually a really disturbing book to read. I was reading this really early in the morning, and it scared me. I was so scared of what was going to happen next. Despite my frightened state, I pushed on page by page. What made this book really interesting was how the author wrote and wrote to make you take sides. But then at the end of the book, your belief and your position (which side you took) may be completely off.
Abs. loved this book. I couldn't put it dowm. The characters are completely fresh when related to other Gothic novels of note. It's delicously creepy and fantastical with elements of the surreal mixed in proportionatly. I can't wait for the sequel, although my ONE qualm is I don't understand Cordelia's anger towards Maddie, oh well guess we'll find out soon!!!
Sisters of Misery is about Maddie Collins. She's in the "cool" crowd at school. But when her cousin Cordelia comes to Hawthorne, Massachusetts everything changes. All the guys there start noticing her, even Maddie's friend Kate's boyfriend which causes a lot of conflict in the town and Maddie has to choose if she wants to be loyal to her cousin or with her friends and part of the secret society she is part of, the Sisters of Misery.

For some reason I started this book several times without quite getting into it, but I finally actually gave it a try this week and WOW, awesome book!!! Can't wait to pick up the sequel! Really good mystery. It was very dark and scary, but not in the way I thought it was going to be (the back cover review is not very telling of the actual book, in my opinion!) - and that's not a bad thing, it just made it more mysterious and I never knew what was going to happen next.
