Two out of four isn't bad, but it could be better.
Christine Feehan's Dark Hunger is the usual Dark Series book. Hot and sexy - and a great introduction to the stories of the five De La Cruz brothers.
Maggie Shayne disappointed me - her story didn't have the right vibe.
Emma Holly's storytelling and plot improved from the novella in Fantasy. At least it made me laugh.
Seduction's Gift by Angela Knight made me lift my eyebrows and say "Huh?!" at first - but then - wow! And let me repeat that: wow! Re

Each of the stories were awesome adventures. Dark Hunger takes you into the breathtaking rain forests of the Amazon, where you meet Riordan and Juliette to join them in their struggle to earn not only each other's trust, but join together as lifemates, while racing against time to save Jasmine from the clutches of jaguar-men hell-bent on making her suffer. Awaiting Moonrise takes you into the heart of the bayou where mysterious creatures often dwell and shows you anything you thought you might k ...more

Dark Hunger by Christine Feehan is book 14 in the Dark Carpathian Series. I read this "short story" in an anthology, and this review is only for Dark Hunger.

Riordan is an ancient and powerful Carpathian male living in the jungles of South America with his brothers. Trapped and caged by the same beastly Morrison Psychic Research Center that has been endangering the lives of all immortals throughout the series, Riordan will give his life before becoming the bait to bring in his brothers and others

Ok I initially wanted to read this so I ccould read the Carpathian novella from Christine Feehan "Dark Hunger" and it was fairly typical of all the others in the series with the exception that Juliette (the woman who become converted) actually welcomes the change. But it is the other stories in this anthology that make this collection great. I suppose I enjoyed Emma Holly's "the Night Owl" the most. Mariann is a mature woman who lives alone in the country town as the local baker, who is eventual ...more

I always find it hard to rate an anthology, because inevitably I really like some and really don't like others, and that holds true here. On the strength of Christine Feehan's Dark Hunger, tho, I give this an overall 3.5*

Christine Feehan's Dark Hunger gets a strong 4* - loved Riordan & Juliette & looking forward to stories about Jasmine & Solange
Maggie Shayne's Upyr story gets a weak 3*
Emma Holly's cute story gets 3.5* just because it was so cute
Angela Knight's Mageverse is definitel

This is an anthology of four short stories.

‘Dark Hunger’ by Christine Feehan. #14 of the Dark Carpathian series. 4 stars. This is the story I read the book for. The Carpathian storyline moves to the Amazon jungle to discover the remnants of the Jaguar people. The five De La Cruz brothers have been there since Vlad sent them centuries ago, protecting the people against vampires. It’s a fast paced story. Though the females of her race fear and avoid all men, Juliette already knows about Carpathi

You wont regret reading this one. I'll keep this short and sweet. I enjoyed all stories in this anthology. I have not been able to say that before. Feehan does a great job with her Carpathians as always, but the ending was a little too abrupt. Being from Louisiana myself, I loved Shayne's rendition of "loup-garou" mixed with voodoo. Holly was not to be outdone by two very experienced writers. Her vampire, she calls an upyr was very hot and sexy. The hardest story to swallow was by Angela Knight. ...more

Hot Blood is an anthology by some of the hottest paranormal writers.

Christine Feehan's Dark Hunger is a continuation of her "DARK" Carpathian series. As always, I can trust Christine to deliver a nice beautifully written story. The tale is about a Carpathian who has been captured, and left to die, in a remote jungle lab. He is saved by Juliette. Unable to control his need, he take her blood to survive. All the DARK fans will not want to miss this one.

Awaiting Moonlight is Maggie Shayne's tale.

"Seductions Gift" is one of the stories in the anthology Hot Blooded, by author Angela Knight. This story focuses on Grace Morgan and Lancelot. This is the first in the Mageverse series and the story that got me hooked to this author. In the first few chapters we learn that the Knights of the Round table have all either turned Vampire (in the case of the men) or Mage (for the women) and that Grace is a latent, someone who could receive the Gift of turning into a Mage. As this is another short s ...more

first two were meh for me, which I didn't expect. I like feehan, but that was a dud. third one I liked okay, it was more the characters than the plot (which is NOT a bad thing), enjoyed but would have enjoyed more as a full length. fourth one hit the sweet spot. I'm a sucker for badass women who are loved by strong men, particularly when judicious violence comes about (what can I say? I watched too many action movies as a child). these all balances out to a solid and enjoyable read. I would reco ...more

I'd give Hot Blooded 3.5 stars overall.
Dark Hunger by Christine Feehan was alright. Better then Dark Prince, the first book in the series, but her writing still kind-of annoys me. That and I don't particularily like her characters, although this one was much better - stonger and less idiotic then the one in the first book. My favourite part of this story is that it was set in the South American rainforest instead of Europe or North America.
Awaiting Moonrise by Maggie Shayne was also ok. A crypto

I didn't want to read all of the stories from this book. I have a bad habit of starting a series from the middle or end then working my way back. I only read Angelia Knights Mageverse #1, as I already have read everything else from the series to date.

I really enjoyed being able to see where it all began with the Mageverse series. I knew most of what the back story was already, but it was nice to get a few things I didn't know filled in. I happen to like this spin on the Arthurian legend mysel

Four good reads. Feehan's "Dark Hunger" adds another piece to the Carpathian story with a interesting story line about the Jaguar shapeshifters "Juliette" and how that specieis relate to the Carpathians. "Awaiting Moonrise" by Maggie Shayne (who I have not read much of) was about the Bayou where professor Jenny Rose is doing research on the possibility of another species, and of course, she finds a werewolf and falls in love. No big surprises but still a good story. Emma Holly's "Night Owl" was ...more

Dark Hunger by Christine Feehan 2 Stars

Cat shifter girl raids lab to save the creatures & saves a Carpathian man who decides right away she's his lifemate.

I am sorry, but this one was really stupid. Her cat people are the DUMBEST characters she has, and mix it with a vampire who uses the type of english he does. It was just the worst story frm her I've read. Cats are so sexual you know 'cause they have to rub up all over you. That's how you can tell! Whatever!

I got this collection because I like Angela Knight and Emma Holly, and I wanted to read the first Mageverse installment. The concept is so weird and stupid. Basically the Mageverse is a parallel dimension where magical/alien beings live. The Mageverse and its peoples exist to protect the earth from evil.

In order to create Mageverse beings on Earth, Merlin, a magical alien, came to Earth and left his genetics with the Knights of the Round Table making them Magi, who are powerful warrior - get thi

I bought this book strictly for the Feehan story, not planning on reading the other three. But after Dark Hunger, decided what the heck? I'd give it a try. I surprised myself by enjoying all four stories practically equally.

Dark Hunger takes place in South America, which is different. Juliette and Riordan (how do you pronounce that?) make a good couple. No surprise there. But the element of Juliette being a species of jaguar shape-shifter definitely added a new dimension and makes me wonder if

I'd heard mentions of Feehan as one of the authors who really boosted the visibility of paranormal romance. I was thoroughly unconvinced by her story. Lots of "Males are not to be trusted! But it's okay to use 'em for sex. But you're special, I want you and trust you" from the female shapeshifter, and "Don't do dangerous things while I'm trapped underground during the day! Wait, I can find some little extra pocket of super-power to help you out" from the male vampire.

Since that was the first sto
