Replay, by Sharon Creech, is the story of Leonardo or Sardine, which is what everyone in his family calls him. This quiet, introspective twelve-year old often finds himself sardined in between his more boisterous and outgoing siblings. When Leo exploring the attic he finds an old diary entitled, Age of Thirteen written by his father when he was young. There is also a mysterious Rosaria who appears in pictures and in the diary that Leo has never even heard of. When Leo gets the part of the Old Cr...more

Replay is the story of a boy rehearsing for a play at is school. When the students ask how to act like someone who is different from them, their teacher tells them to get into their roles by imagining what the character was like when they were their age, and then thinking about how they go to be who they are.
This leads the main character to examine his father's life and sympathize with him.

The story starts out slowly and is written in third-person present, which is odd. But the ending is q...more

Not as easy to jump into as other Creech books, not as heart-rending until late in the book, and even then it was a little forced. Creech has created some fantastic characters but I was not as sucked in as I usually am. BUT it was still Creech, and better than most books out there. I liked the play and its concepts, but also felt that Creech, of all people, could have done more with it.

This book should have been longer or shorter -- I think that's it.

This book was okay. It is not Creech's best, but I did like the format that she wrote it in. I appreciated the use of play terms and essence throughout the novel. I also liked how the main character, Leo, imagined himself in wonderful situations. I too did a lot of day dreaming of success in various things as a child and I think she captured that idea really well. The theme didn't stand out much, but overall it was a cute book.

I have learned that the feelings I have for acting is not just me. This book is by my favorite author, Sharon Creech and my favorite subject, acting. Could it get any better? yeah. it could. This book was going so far but then ended with not much of a solution. Yet, if you are a drama queen, it is a must read.

I really like this book by Sharon Creech about a dreamy young boy named Leo and his chaotic family life, which is portrayed so believably. He is acting in a school play, and the full play is printed at the end of the book. Great read--you can find out more on the author's website.

so, this was an interesting book. the name did not at all give away what this book was about. it was really about so many things. i love that creech put some words in that kids would need to look up to learn. i love that the main character grew throughout the story. all in all, it was a good book.

This was a fine book (not a great one) by a great author. It's about 12 year-old Leo and his need for attention in a great big, loud family. There's a secondary story in that Leo aspires to be an actor and plays an undesirable role in a school play. The format is unique; I like that about Creech.

This book had a unique style. The little boy has fantasies like any other child. He really wants to be important and feels that his parents don't love him as much as his siblings. In the end, his parents' love for him really shows as they attend his class play and support his love for drama.

Not one of Creech's best, but good none-the-less, especially for kids growing up in the dynamic chaos of a large family (as I did), and even more so if that family happens to be Italian American (as my father's side of the family is). Also a good introduction to theater and plays.

This book was ok. It's not one of my favorites by Sharon Creech. The overall story was good and I liked the perspective of the book. It was just a little bland and slow moving. The characters were good, especially the main character Leonard Sardine. You can't help but like him.

The experimental style put me off at first--written in sceen-play, present-tense format. I kept putting it down. But once I got into it I liked it. She's so good at writing memorable characters, and their relationships and how they all develop are so interesting.

While preparing for a role in the school play, 12 year old Leo finds an autobiography that his father wrote as a teenager and ponders the ways people change as they grow up. Includes the text for "Rumpopo's Porch" (the play he is in).

I thought it had a pretty good plot line, but it got very confusing. Overall it was an OK book, but if you are looking for some excitement on a boring day, i wouldn't suggest this book as your first choice.

It's short, but it's still really good. One thing that helps when you read it is to not just read it, but think about it. Great author, too. I've read all her books :)

This book is written in present tense but third character, so it's a bit confusing. It's about a boy named Leo who dreams a lot and his chaotic large family.

This was not up to my Creech standard..The emotional break through, or the ah ha.. didn't have the impact that other of her books have had for me.

Yikes! I usually really like Sharon Creech's young adult books. This one was really lacking in character development and story line-not good.
