I'm loving the recent upswing in paranormal romance novels, but I must tell you that one of my favorite series is the 'Curtain/Ghost Hunter' series by Jayne Castle AKA Jayne Ann Krentz AKA Amanda Quick. The first book was written a little over 10 years ago and I was hooked. So whenever I get a new release, I put down whatever I'm reading at the time and gobble the new down. I've reread every book in this series at least 4-5 times and I know "Dark Light", the newest release, will be ...more

What a great addition to Jayne Castle’s Curtain series, Dark Light has delivered what was and is expected in the place called Harmony. Sierra McIntyre is a dedicated reporter who is intent on making her part of the world fair and just, a tall order for any individual. John Fontana, who appeared at first to be an obstacle to Sierra’s goal, gradually becomes a partner in her quest to find the missing retired guildsmen.

Dark Light is the fifth book in Jayne Castle's "Ghost Hunters" series (sixth if you count the short story "Bridal Jitters").
I've loved this series from the very beginning. It's rather unique in the PNR genre as it's not about werewolves, vampires, etc.
The backstory is that 200 years ago an energy Curtain opened in space near Earth making space travel practical. One of the worlds discovered and colonized through the curtain was Harmony. On Harmony ...more

myself since I have read it from the beginning of the seriesrecommends it for: fans of Jayne Castle, paranormal futuristic romance
I have been following the "Ghost Hunter" series from the beginning. I usually adore Jayne's work in contemporary and historical romances. I really loved her earlier futuristic work. The Ghost Hunter series had promise, but the stories are getting too repetitive. The cute idea of the dust bunnies introduced in the first story has become a weak joke and annoying. Almost all the lead females have one. All of them dress them up in a "cutesy" manner that makes me think of Paris Hi...more

As far as I'm concerned, Jayne Castle (aka Jayne Ann Krentz) will be one of the originals when it comes to supernatural romance. This one felt a bit.... recycled, though. Dust bunny? Check. Ghost Hunter Guild? Check? Hunky dude showing off his amber? Check. Plucky heroine who's getting in deeper into trouble than she expected? Check.
Still fun. And I'll still continue to read any more that come out, but I'm ready for her to go somewhere different.

I am so pleased to be reading another Jayne Castle that I tend to give it five stars just for that. The story line is perhaps not quite as intricate as her others, however. On the other hand, the characters are great as well as the dialogue and the humor. Of Jayne Ann Krentz's writing personas, Jayne Castle is far and away my favorite, followed closely by her contemporary writing under her own name and then by her Amanda Quick books, so I am generally willing to be more than pleased by any co...more

Newest chapter in the series set on the world of Harmony with a ghost hunter who can manipulate dark energy and the tabloid reporter that he convinces to marry him. Just because he happens to be the head of the Guild is no reason for her to trust him but the amazing energy that sparks between the two of them is certainly an inducement to make their Marriage of Convenience into a true relationship. Elvis the dust-bunny makes a wonderful sidekick and interjects many reminders of the Earth that H...more

I really enjoy these books, this series. For me its more about the mystery or adventure going on rather than the romance which seems secondary to me in the books. I can’t wait for her to write more.

The series is an auto-buyrecommends it for: women who like fun sci fi romance
This is a fun series. I think the first one I read, After Glow, is the best, but Dark Light is a close second. Sci fi romance, light, fun and adventurous. I like the romance -- it has fewer of the contrived misunderstandings than most romances do. I've loved the dust bunny pets (companions) in the series. I think this dust bunny named Elvis in his star costumes is a bit over the top, but he's still very funny in his floating car, and endearing in his determination to find his missing mistress. While I really enjoyed the book . . . I didn't love it like I did the previous books.
The suspense wasn't near as intense, and the couple in the story didn't have near the amount of drama as previous couples.
Overall though, I enjoyed the story. Elvis is just adorable, but then all the dust bunnies are.
I hope she expands on the outcome of the support characters in this book. There were quite a few fringe storylines that I'd like to see a conclusion to in fut...more

A suspenseful novel featuring a spitfire journalist and a brand new guild leader who are determined to figure out who's behind the new drug in Crystal as well as the disappearances of several retired hunters.

I am really enjoying this series. The world that Krentz (writing as Castle) has created on the planet of Harmony is fun to visit again and again. This time the new Guild Boss of Crystal City is facing a nosy reporter (our heroine), a new drug that is getting to former hunters, and an unseen enemy who doesn't like the fact that he is the new Boss. New paranormal powers just add to the fun.
I'm not normally a big fan of science fiction but this series just keeps me coming back.

A much more solid, tighter story than the last book, but same number of stars because I do just like them. As I mentioned before, her writing propels the characters through the story, and the characterizations of the dust bunnies are fun. Not sure how much popularity Elvis would have centuries after his death and on an alien planet, but still cute.
