I picked up a copy of Morgan's Passing on the mistaken impression that I had read another of Anne Tyler's books and enjoyed it. Having gone through my records I realize that I must have been mistaken. Nonetheless, I'm glad that I took a chance and read the book.

Morgan is a likeable (sort of) scoundrel. Or a charming middle-aged eccentric, depending on how you look at things. Anne Tyler is a personal favorite of mine, and I rank this with her finest work, in spite of the fact that later novels have stronger prose, and Morgan is far from my favorite Tyler protagonist.

No matter how many times I read this, I get such a kick out of the beginning of this book and out of Morgan.

A wacky book about wacky people. I have uncles like Morgan. He's outrageous and lives his own life, but he's extremely believable.
