Lost and Found
The Grayson twins are moving to a new town. Again.
Although it's a drag to be constantly mistaken for each other, in truth, during those first days at a new school, there's nothing better than having a twin brother there with you. But on day one of sixth grade, Ray stays home sick, and Jay is on his own. No big deal. It's a pretty nice school, good kids, too. But Jay quickl...more

I found this book very confusing.
Twins who are so identical that even their parents cannot always tell them are sadly, named Jay Ray and Ray Jay. (Their parents should be slapped for that one).
On the first day in a new school only one brother attends, the other stays home because he is sick. The brother that goes to school just happens to be the one that the school knows about, the other brother's files are mixed in with his.
The brother that did go to school realizes it is a unique experience t...more

A new school year. A new school. When twelve-year-old Ray stays home sick on the first day of school, a clerical error gives his twin brother Jay an idea. Somehow the school was not expecting twins. Jay is the only Grayson listed. This is a chance to see what it’s like to be on his own without being lumped under the word twins. Reluctantly Ray agrees that this opportunity isn't likely to happen again. He too would like to how it feels to a single without always being a twin.

Because of his brother's illness, Jay heads off to the first day of school in a new school without Ray, his identical twin. And when Jay realizes that the school has interfiled the two boys' folders and has no idea there is a second child, he hatches a plan. He just needs to convince Ray that alternating attendance between the two boys so that only one attends school and the other hides at home each day will be good for each of them. And so the deceit begins and consequences, too, which the two...more
I have recently started Lost and Found by Andrew Clements and found it to be very interesting. The title reminds me of a lost and found were you put clothes and other belongings after they are lost, but it's not the same. It's a story on how twin brothers create a lie. Jay (one of the brothers) is one of the smarter people at the school, shy, and can't get conversation started with girls. But, Ray (his twin brother) is the opposite. Ray loves sports, he is smart but too smart, fast at making fri...more
On the first day of school in a new town, Jay Grayson goes to school by himself because his twin brother, Ray, is home sick. The school seems fine, as new schools go, but Jay realizes something weird--no one seems to be expecting two Grayson boys. Jay revels in the chance to be just himself and not half of a set, and by the end of the day, he's come up with a plan, an experiment, for him and Ray to get a chance to see what it is like to not be a twin, so the boys take turns being "Jay" and going...more
i gave this book 5 stars because i liked it. my favorite part is when the two twins end up telling a person but the other doesnt know about. the to twins jay and ray just moved to a new town and their old school combined their two files and they are twins and look exactly alike so the new school didnt know they were to different kids because one brother was sick the first week of school so the school didnt know the kid was even living. when ray got better him and his brother went to school every...more
I agree with many other reviewers that this is not the best of Andrew Clements. I felt like there were some holes in the story, the biggest of which was why the twins often moved. I was also surprised by the parent/principal/nurse reaction at the end.
What I am most disappointed in, and this is not just a critique of Clements, is that all of the kids seem to be white. I just don't feel like this is reality. I was hoping that an author like Clements, who is regarded as an accurate author of the el...more

Andrew Clements is one of my favorite authors of all time - to the point where, as with Matt Ruff's books (although those are longer and scarcer), I ration his books with myself, only letting myself read a new one very occasionally, so I never run out! Lost and Found doesn't quite reach the level of some of Clements' best, like Frindle, Things Not Seen, and my old favorite The School Story, but it's still totally satisfying. Clements' best trademarks are in full effect: grownups who make mistake...more

Another SC Children's Book Award Nominee. Jay and Ray are identical twins who are starting at a new school in a new town. Ray is sick on the first day and Jay gets to experience school without a twin for a change. He loves it! Having his own identity is a new experience for him. He realizes that the school has combined their records and that he and Ray can both enjoy the experience by alternating their days of attendance. Of course, this plan is going to blow up, but what will the twins learn ab...more
This is an inventive twin tale about the desire to be individualistic rather than linked. Identical twins Jay and Ray are alike in every way except for personality. They get an opportunity to display their individuality when their new school mistakenly loses Ray's file by combining it into Jay's file. Furthermore Ray's absence on the first day allows Jay to experience what it is like to be seen as himself. Thus an idea ensues to continually alternate between one of the twins attending school as...more

Ray and Jay are identical twins who are tired of being mistaken for one another, and it is when they move to a new school in Ohio that they find their chance to be unique. When Jay goes to school for the first day of 6th grade all alone, leaving his brother home sick, he discovers that there has been a mistake and his brother's file has been combined with his own. This leads him and his brother to trade off going to school each day, just to get the experience of not being a twin. Unfortunatley,...more
Lost and Found is a great book. It keeps you just want to keep reading and reading. This book is about two twins that move. They now live in Denver,Colorado and they go to a school called Taft Elementary. The two kids name are jay and ray.

This book is really put together in a good mystery form. You want to keep reading to know how everyone gets by. It is about two boys who move in and go to school. But one of there files gets lost. And on the first day of school one of them gets sick so nobody even knows there is suppose to be two of them. So the twins switch off everyday because they wnt to actually be alone without everyone always staring at them because they look exactly alike. so if you want to find out what happens you will h...more
This book was great but it was a little bit slow paced- that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it. This book is about two twin boys who discover that, if they be careful, they can each attend to school 2 or 3 days a week and can be one person instead of twins. I liked this book because it really gave me a new perspective on twins. I used to think they were, well, identical people. I thought that they had the same favorite color, favorite food, and even t- shirt. And now I see that they can be two tota...more
Andrew Clements writes the best stories set in elementary schools. This one was good, but not my favorite.
Identical twins, Jay and Ray, move to a new town. Ray is sick and misses their first day at the new school. Jay soon discovers that Ray's name isn't being called in attendance-no one seems to know that he exists. Mischief occurs as the twins hatch a plan to alternate their attendance at school, so they each get to see what it would be like to finally be noticed as an individual and not a tw...more

of course i loved this book! it's a clements book! i was reading the end of this book and thinking "this is what diary of a wimpy kid should be". as fun as it would be to trade places and be just one kid, there would be serious consequences for doing this! though, that is addressed, it doesn't take away from the fun of the book. of course, this could never happen in our school system, but i wonder about other systems. surely, every kid has to be checked in by a parent. surely. anyways, i really...more
Another fantastic book by Clements. (And I know I've probably said this before, but I don't think I've ever read anything I didn't like of his).
Ray and Jay are identical twins. And they are tired of always being treated as the same person. The family moves to a new town and due to unusual circumstances, Jay starts at his new school without his brother. Due to an error, no one at school knows there are two Grayson boys. Andrew Clements has a handle on what it is like realistically to be a twin. He chronicles the feelings of these boys who are always fighting for individuality and identity and their adventures as they decide to share one name and therefore go to school only half the time. The adventures ensue. Will they be discovered? What will the consequences be? What do they learn about themselves and the joys and sorrows of being a twin? Will they find their own identity? Great read aloud for a classroom tha...more
Identical twins Jay Ray and Ray Jay have spent twelve years being mistaken for each other. On the first day of school in their new town, Ray stays home sick while Jay goes to his classes and discovers that due to a clerical error, the school doesn't know he's a twin. The boys decide to take advantage of this and find out what it feels like to be a unique individual for a change. It's fun at first, but their plan has some unexpected challenges.

When I was reading Lost and Found it made me think how it would be if I had a twin and I didn't know what it felt like if I was not with my twin. It was confusing at times when I was reading because when the twin brothers were born their parents named them Jay and Ray. Both brothers want to fell what it like to be alone and not be compared to someone else and just be them self. So Jay thinks of an idea where Jay goes to school the Jay stays home and Ray goes to school. But the teachers soon fine...more

In the book Lost and Found, Andrew Clements introduces readers to twins Ray and Jay. While the brothers do find it irritating that they are always being mistaken for the other, they find it to be comforting to have one another as they enter the first day of sixth grade. However, disaster strikes when Jay must make his own way as Ray is sick. When Jay gets to school, he finds out that there is no record of Ray. Readers will not be able to put this book down as Ray and Jay get into mischief, which...more
Identical twins decide to try life as a single when they start at a new middle school by attending alternate days when the school loses one of their records. Yet even though they try to be their own person, they ultimately end up acting the same - much to their frustration.

I reated this book 4 out of 5 stars because in the beginning it went really slow and nothing really happened, but then when I got to the middle of the book, the action started to happen and the main idea occurred. My favorite part of the book was when towards the middle of the book when ( spoiler alert ) jay came up with the idea to switch on and off so that they wouldn’t have to be twins anymore, on the first day of school Jay went and then the next day Ray went to school, and their parents did...more
The book "Lost and Found" is one of my favorite books because it is interesting. This book talks about 2 twin brothers who move into their new school and when they go to the office the principal mistakes their name and they think of a plan and the plan was to have one brother go to school and the other one to stay home and everyday they switch it around where one brother goes to school and the other one stays home. I'm reading up on Andrew Clements to prepare for an author visit in May. I like his books, but more importantly kids like his books. They are for a younger audience, intermediate grades, and address appropriate issues, mostly school and family stories, in a simple style. This one is about a pair of identical twins who put one over on their parents and school by taking turns being the same person. It's cute, but also a bit thought-provoking to imagine what it would be like to never have your own...more

I was born in Camden, New Jersey in 1949 and lived in Oaklyn and Cherry Hill until the middle of sixth grade. Then we moved to Springfield, Illinois. My parents were avid readers and they gave that love of books and reading to me and to all my brothers and sisters. I didn’t think about being a writer at all back then, but I did love to read. I'm certain there's a link between reading good books an...more
