Nicolette was stood up on prom night, and her extravagant, not to mention extremely expensive dress which she hung on her bedroom door served as a constant reminder of that painful day. To cope with her distraught, her mum had came up with a list - top ten uses for an unworn prom dress.
I admit, I was attracted to this story by it's unique title, don't you think the title sounded promising? I thought I was in for a funny romance, but I was a bit disappointed by the outcome. Don't get me wrong, I...more

While I like a light fluffy read, there was just something about the almost too high school setting in this that turned me off within the first few chapters. I liked that Nic had to deal with stuff that most teenagers don't; asking her dad to help her save her house. But the whole prom dress thing was a little too much for me. I wouldn't have kept the dress like Nic did, especially after the way Rascal dumped her as his prom date.

There are some books that make you want to rip your roots out of your head, and then there are some that are so easy and breezy to read/comprehend, that you can't keep your hands off it. Top Ten Uses for an Unworn Prom Dress by Tina Ferraro was a book of the latter description. There's nothing that I like better in a book, than the style it portrays, of "beach read":
Blurb: Sophomore year, Nicolette Antonovich was dumped two days before prom by the hottest guy at school. As a result, she became t...more

Top Ten Uses for an Unworn Prom Dress was actually a really good, well interesting, book. It's about a teenage girl named Nicolette Antonovich. She's a high school student and, of course, there are boys involved. What high school story about a girl isn't? The so called "hottest" guy in her high school, Rascal, asks her to prom since his long time girlfriend moves. Yeah, sounds amazing right? Nope, because his miss lovemuffin herself moves back and Nicolette is left without a date to prom and the...more
So, this reminded me a lot of a Janette Rallison novel. Either because of the super long title, or because of the cute teen atmosphere Ferraro created. I really enjoyed this story and Nicolette. Nicolette is dumped before prom by the school hottie, just days before the big event. She is heartbroken and still in love…with the dress. The summary does a good job describing the overall plot of the book, so I’ll just say that Jared is a sweetie, and he and Nic have good chemistry together. I could ki...more
Nicolette bought THE perfect prom dress only to realize that her date has gotten back together with his ex, Kylie. Not only that, but he is a total MANWHORE who keeps pingponging between her and Kylie and can't seem to take the fact that there might just be one girl in the school who isn't into him.
In the meantime, her best friend Alison is blackmailing her with a picture of HER and a BEER on her camera phone. If Nicolette isn't her "slave" she threatens to take it to her volleyball coach and ge...more

Oh, I just couldn't put this book down. I loved how this book captured a small but big part of this girl named Nicolette's life. The whole story about being dumped right before prom for an old girlfriend was really creative. I found myself smiling when her best friend's brother (BFB) came into the picture. Jared was sweet in so many ways even though at first he seemed like a jerk. Nic felt like an actual person. At least to me she did. Her obsession with her unworn prom dress seemed like somethi...more
Nicolette was dumped two days before the prom, just after she bought her beautiful, non refundable prom dress. So now it is hanging on the back of her door reminding her that she never got to wear the perfect dress to prom. But Nicolette has a whole new set of problems this year. The bank is ready to foreclose on her home, her best friend is acting strange, and there are rumors flying around that could get her kicked off the volleyball team. And what do you do with the perfect prom dress that yo...more
So this review has been put off for too long and I'm finally sitting down and doing it. Okay this book is one of the typical romantic comedies and chick lit books that any girl would love (and I do). Top Ten Uses for an Unworn Prom Dress has an excellent story behind it and the plot is carried out superbly. I love Tina's writing style and I need to get her newer book ABC's of Kissing. This story line revolves around one thing a pink prom dress, the main character Nicolette, bought for her pity d...more
Well, I am apparently appreciative of very fast reads. It was fun, juvenile and cute at the same time. I guess I am becoming more aware of just how crazy sexual activity is trying to show up for people that are younger and younger. I'm not so naive to think that it doesn't happen, I guess I'm not surprised that authors feel lit so important as to make it almost the crux of an entire book. Honestly, this book was so mild in that department - if you read it you will laugh at this review. Just have...more
Lately I've gotten onto a little bit of a Tina Ferraro kick, despite the fact that her books are not exactly earth-moving examples of teen fiction. They may not exhibit the greatest amount of originality, the writing doesn't call out for awards, and they don't explore any deeply important issues, but for what they are, they're perfect. They are sweet, pleasant, and best of all, very very quick. They are the literary equivalent of a popular teen movie, and have been the perfect palate-cleanser fo...more
I just spent the last hour or two curled up into a ball, complete with a cup of tea, totally engrossed in the life of Nicolette Antonovich. I really needed a lighthearted fun read too escape from the real world for a bit, and that's just what I got. What I loved the most was that Top Ten Uses For an Unworn Prom Dress was light and fluffy, but at the same time realistic.

I loved this book and you will too! I must admit that the title seemed a bit sketchy to me, but the book had so many great elements that it hooked me right in! The story revolves around a "wallflower" main character, who discovers that maybe she has more to offer than she thinks. It delves into the dynamics of dealing with the trials of a broken family, a family financial crisis, and the drama that is high school dating. Funny, heart-warming and entertaining, this book will leave you wanting a s...more
I actually really liked Top Ten Uses for an Unworn Prom Dress, so the 3 star rating is a little deeper than just a distaste for the story. The characters were pretty good, maybe some a little underdeveloped. But Jared at least was very likable to me. The constant role her unworn dress played throughout the book, as a crutch, a reminder, an escape... it was a creative element to the story and was well done.
However, the reason I gave this only 3 stars is because, and it took me a while to find a w...more

A cute and funny, young-adult romantic comedy
Nicolette Antonovich bought the prom dress of her dreams toward the end of her sophomore year when one of the cutest guys in school, Rod "Rascal" Pasqual, asked her to the prom. But her ecstasy turned to agony two days before the big event when Rascal suddenly dumped her and took his ex-girlfriend instead. Nic still cringes at the memory of that humiliating fiasco, but none of those painful emotions have affected her appreciation for her wonderful pro...more

Top Ten Uses for an Unworn Prom Dress was a great read; I started it and finished it all in one day. It wasn’t just the fact that I really liked Nicolette and felt like I knew her already, I liked the unique plot and the important messages the novel was relaying. Friendship and family had big roles in Top Ten Uses and honesty did, too. I really liked Alison and Nicolette’s friendship and I’m glad everything worked out for them in the end. I could see Alison’s side as well as Nic’s so I think it...more
I read this book when it first came out and it instantly became one of my favorite happy reads. I have read it so many times I already know the page numbers of a few of my favorite scenes. {48, 67, 72, 101-129 and 194} This book seriously gives me butterflies. It is the epitome of my favorite type of easy, fun, beachy read.

Nicolette (Nic) thought she was going to Rascal's junior prom. Enter Rascal's ex-girlfriend returned from far away. Of course he has to take her. That leaves Nic heartbroken and the owner of the perfect unworn prom dress. This wouldn't be so bad if Nic didn't have other problems. Her mom might loose the house. Nic's worry over this causes her to go to her dad (who had abandoned them for a younger woman and a new baby) for the money. Then, there are her feelings for her best friend's brother Jare...more

Seeing that Tina Ferraro is a newcomer in the Young Adult writing scene, I decided to try her first novel. Basically, it's about a girl called Nicolette, who was supposed to go to Prom with the perfect guy and wearing the perfect dress (see cover of book), but was suddenly dumped the day before the Prom. Now, Nic has an unworn dress hanging in her closet and she doesn't know what to do with it. Of course, it's about more than just a prom dress. The mian character deals with family issues - a mot...more
Okay, first and for most this was one of those good, fun, light-in-one-night reads. Enjoyable, goofy, I really did not need to think all that much, which was a pretty nice relief after 1984.
For the most part I liked Nic, which is a good thing because you should like the protagonist of the book you're reading. But every once and a while she stopped acting like a normal teenager and suddenly was able to quell her emotions and act in a rational manner while those around her seemed to be off their r...more

Nicolette Antonovich is an average girl who is suddenly noticed by one of her school's BMOC upperclassmen. He up and asks her to his Junior prom totally out of the blue (or so she thinks). She spends days searching for the perfect dress, only to have him cancel at the last minute to go with his recently returned girlfriend. This is the start of Nicolette's dress obsession. She is so attached it stays in her closet (except for those times she puts it on just to feel pretty, to cry or, to get real...more
Nic uses her perfect (and sadly unneeded) prom dress for comfort during all the stresses of junior year -- trouble at home with her financially strapped mom and absent dad, inexplicably estranged best friend, confusing advances from the guy who stood her up (and thereby making the dress unneeded), possible advances from best friend's brother, difficulties on the volleyball court. She learns a lot about herself and others and gets to wears the dress in public -- what could be better?
I really, really enjoyed reading this book. I read it on holiday and it was exactly the kind of book I was looking for to relax at the pool with. Light, fluffy, but with enough plot and drama to keep me wondering what was going to happen. My only main concern was how dramatically the love interest changed at the end. He went from standoffish to I'm completely in love with you.
I, however, really did like the complexities between friends. Not all friendships are smooth and being a teen you find mo...more

Ooh, what a delightful, girly read. I was enjoying this trip down high school's memory lane so much that I stayed up 'til 1:30 in the morning just so I could finish the book. Predictable plot? Yes, of course. But oh-so-fun? Absolutely!-------------------I'm up for a fun, think-free read after the last book I read for lit. circles and had to write a test for; this one, hopefully, will mindlessly entertain me.

Review:
This book summed up in one word is this: cute. It somewhat reminded me of a Simon Rom Com book, where everything is just really cute, and there is always the perfect ending, because the characters are just destined to be together.
While I love those kind of novels, they also have their disadvantages. First of all, there are some unrealistic events, even though they are supposed to be realistic novels. Second, the characters are cliched and cheesy at times. Both of these were problems that...more

Tina Ferraro’s books are cute and fun with fantastic titles. I love them!
The way that Tina Ferraro included Nic’s feelings about her parents divorce and her half-sister also helped me to connect with her as I knew exactly where she was coming from. They were real feelings and subtle in the way that Nic kept them to herself that made the situation very true to life.
