I like the fact that your "discovered" personality type is not fixed. You have a personality for when under stress and another when in security. I actually related to this distinction. The personality also comes with wings and look a-likes which confuses me. I got some insights about my self but i want to check it out with outside friends to check their credibility.
Oh, yeah about the test itself. It gives u 9 paragraphs to choose the closest 3 to your personality. then it determine your type. th...more

I've been interested in the MBTI model for quite awhile, and I'm just starting to look into enneagram literature.
This is the first book I've read on the subject, and while it's a nice brief overview, it paled in comparison to many websites and online articles in accuracy and usefulness of information for me.
While it breaks everything down nice and analytically, it didn't feel like it gave me any insight into myself or the enneagram model itself...it "told" me some obvious things about how I act,...more

I finally read straight through this book today. (It's a relatively short one).
I'd say it's probably the best book I've read on the subject. It's also a good starting point for those not already familiar with the enneagram of personality.
It's unabashedly self-help, and all that that implies, but it's self-help tailored to you! And, it doesn't have that tone that self-help books can sometimes have. I liked the straight-forward advice and the lack of any personal bias from the authors.

This book starts by giving the reader nine paragraphs they are to read and then it asks them to choose the three paragraphs that describe them the most and the order in which they best describe them (ie. first, second, and third.) The book then tells the reader which types they most likely could be based upon the paragraphs that they chose. The book then briefly describes how the stress and security arrows of the types work and how the information pages for each type are laid out. The reader is...more
i love this book. it's simplicity is incredibly helpful. so many books belabor an idea past the point of usefulness. this book is insightful, clear, to the point, basic, and also comprehensive enough to keep the reader busy for quite some time in using it's guidelines and tools. i love the clarity, precision, and perspective offered here. very useful in self-studies, personal growth, relationship work, spirituality... amazing.
By "the most fundamental guide" they mean "the guide that sticks to the fundamentals only and doesn't give any in-depth information."
Everything in the book is on the Enneagram Institute's website and the personality "test" is just nine paragraphs summarizing each type and asking you to pick the one that sounds the closest. I'm annoyed I even took the time to check this out from the library.

This short, yet comprehensive, book quickly helps readers determine their types using nine (“scientifically tested”) descriptive paragraphs. The rest of the book presents information to help readers verify their type, and then determine ways to live in ways that consciously bring awareness to the strengths and weaknesses of their respective types.
This was an assignment for a work team building event, and it was actually very interesting! The concepts make a lot of sense, and I've been able to put the techniques into practice, not only in the workplace, but in my personal life as well. We were also very lucky to have the author present the material to us.
