DK Readers aren’t usually something I would pick up on my own but working with kids I’m glad I checked them out. Designed to match the reader’s level, I was glad to see the text was at least interesting. Simple sentences about subjects they may enjoy are combined with large photographic images with more word identifiers. A glossary is included in the end.

I like to recommend nonfiction to reluctant readers and this is a great series for emerging readers!
This is a pre-level 1 (learning to read) book about the critters outside in the garden. I like that the text is big and the sentences are short. The pictures are big, colorful, and close up. There are many insects to learn about and my children love learning about life: flowers, gardens, insects, amphibians, etc. This was a good one for them, they enjoyed it, their favorite pages were about the butterflies and the ladybugs.

I liked that there were very beautiful bugs like the butterfly and the baby snail and lovely flowers in that book.
