I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I love all things 50's and this book is set in 1950's Scotland, so it had me from the beginning. About two sisters who enjoy a relatively normal and peaceful life, and then all these traumatic things start happening to them and the people around them in their scottish village. There is one particularly annoying character in this book, who i felt like slapping through most of the book (their Irish aunt, Mona), she just doesn't shut up! Good writer.

The Cats Mother
This took an awful long time to get started - I was getting really irritated with the lengthy descriptions of the family and their boring lives down to every last mundane detail. In about chapter 20, something happened, and towards the end of the book a story actually developed. She should spend less time describing what each character was wearing, and focus more on their motivations. I doubt I would read any more of hers now.

I think I just wasn't in the mood for this. The book is very descriptive and goes at a slow pace. Anyway, I felt struggling to end it.
