Martı Yayınları’ndan çıkmış olan “ SALLY GOLDENBAUM – KIYIYA VURAN HAYATLAR “ adlı kitabı şu an itibariyle bitirmiş bulunmaktayım .

Kitap, biraz Debbie Macomber ‘ın kitaplarına benziyor ama fark...more

While I'm recovering from being really sick, I finally got to the point where I felt like reading, but knew that I couldn't handle anything too deep, involved, or serious. Then I remembered I had this book that I had been wanting to read, and let me tell you - it was the perfect thing for me right now!

This is the first in the Seaside Knitters series, which take place in a small town on Cape Ann, Massachusetts. In and of itself, that's good as far as I'm concerned, since I have fond memories of v...more

A nice light entertaining "cozy" mystery by Salley Goldenbaum. 'Death by Cashmere' is the first in this series and has the usual cast of characters: The knitshop owner, beloved friends and fellow knitters, a love interest and a nice setting in a seaside town in Massachusetts. The descriptions of the seaside town involve the 'townies' that live there year-round and the 'summer people' that visit plus painting a picture of people that depend on fishing for their livelihood.

Actually I'm quite envi...more

This was a nice gentle cozy murder mystery. This was book number one in the series known as "A Seaside Knitters Mystery."

Although the back blurb talks about Isabel "Izzy" Chambers and her shop where the Thursday night knitting club meet, the book is really narrated by Izzy's Aunt, Nell. Nell is the amateur sleuth that puts the case together. The other ladies in the club add moral support, however, there wasn't much of Izzy present in this first case.

Izzy's renter of the apartment above the shop,...more

I am sure there is a cozy mystery published for every interest imaginable. DEATH BY CASHMERE is the first in the Seaside Knitters mystery series. Set in the small town of Sea Harbor, Mass -- it has small town charm and the characters to go with it, besides just enough knitting to make it interesting for *needle* lovers. Izzy Chambers has given up her career as a lawyer to start the Seaside Knitting Studio. Izzy renews her relationship with her aunt, Nell Endicott and Uncle Ben. Nell and Ben hold...more

This is the first in a series called the Seaside Knitters Mysteries. Summer is coming to the small MA town and Izzy is getting ready for the customers who will be coming to her shop. Izzy spent many summers here growing up and as a adult has decided that this is the place to make her home. Angie, a native of the town, has also returned home and is presently renting the apartment that Izzy has above her knit shop. Angie seems to be a "problem child" but Izzy is glad to have her renting the apartm...more

I was looking forward to a cozy mystery that took place in a yarn shop located in a Massachusetts coastal village. I was expecting to read descriptive passages about: the coastline, the ocean, the surrounding areas, the village, the residents of the village, the projects that were being knit, the puzzle that needed solving insofar as whodunit. The author fulfilled all of those expectations, the problem was that she did so in a way that did not draw me in to the story. The author, also, included...more

This book feels a bit like an English pantomime to me, minus the man dressed up as a lady.

The characters are a bit dense, and I feel that as the "audience" I should be yelling "He's behind you!" and then the characters will answer "No, he's not!" And I'll say "Yes, he is!" and so on. I just wish they'd catch on!

The obvious choice for the main character is Izzy, a young, bright woman who has opened her own knitting store in the quaint village of Sea Harbor, which you guessed it, is on the seaside...more

A friend recommended the Seaside Knitters series by Sally Goldenbaum, and I encountered problems finding the novels of this series in the Charlotte Public Library, which carries none of Goldenbaum's works. The series is not for everyone, as the novel does not contain explicit sex or violence. The series is set in a seaside town in Massachusetts where art, fishing, and crafts mingle with the scenery and the people. The main emphasis rests on the sturdy shoulders of the Seaside Knitters: Izzy Cham...more

Death by Cashmere is my first Sally Goldenbaum cozy. I like cozies that feature handwork - quilting, sewing, knitting, embroidery, and I liked this one too. Handwork cozies are so feminine, emphasizing the bonding and friendship of those who work singley, and together on such beautiful, handcrafted traditions.

Set in a Massachusetts coastal town, Death by Cashmere nicely characterizes the year round, small town residents: their public lives, their private secrets, their love of living by the sea....more

Izzy Chambers has rejected her life as a lawyer and has returned to Sea Harbor to open a craft store. The apartment above the store she rented to Angie Archer, which a lot of the townsfolk warn her she'll regret. Angie is a troubled redhead who seems to attract men and doesn't seem long for Sea Harbor. The dire warnings are proved true when Angie is pulled up with a lobster trap. At first it appears to be a horrible accident but everyone is even more shocked when it turns out to be murder.

DEATH IN CASHMERE was my cozy escape choice for the month. I usually read cozies as a break from the realistic, dark and depressing volumes currently making the best seller list.

Set in the charming harbor town of Sea Harbor, Massachusetts it tells of Izzy Chambers, a former Boston lawyer who has fled the dog-eat-dog intensity of the corporate world, to return home and open a knitting shop. She rents the small apartment over her shop to Angie Archer, another local girl who has returned and, it a...more

When I went to pick up The Friday Night Knitting Club at the library, Death by Cashmere was on display so I checked it out. I was looking for light reading while family was in town for the holidays. This Seaside Knitters Mystery wasn't much of a mystery. Though I was interested in the characters, so much was foreshadowed before the mystery was solved that I knew who did it and who else was covering it up long before the end of the book. I kept hoping that maybe it was one of those situations in...more

A great cozy mystery! A fun group of characters swirling around Nell (the main character) who solve a murder in their small, seaside village. All the talk of yarn and knitting almost made me wish I was a knitter too. (There's a pattern in the back of the book for those who are!) This group of women also eat their way through the whole book so at times I had to stop and get a snack it made me hungry reading it. But one thing for sure, I wall well fed with this terrific mystery and well written bo...more

I guess I liked this book. It was better than "okay", or I would have put it down, but it wasn't as good as most other KnitLit books I've read. Maybe because I'm not much of a mystery reader? Also, there was very little knitting, and some of what was included was wrong (THERE ARE NO PURL STITCHES IN A GARTER SCARF). A Seaside Foodies Mystery would be an appropriate re-sub-titling. Lots of scrumptious food was described! One thing that really bugged me (and perhaps this a convention of mystery no...more

I have mixed emotions about this book. For starters, I loved the fact that it was set in Maine. The details about the small town living and living on the coast were wonderful! I liked the characters however, when I purchased the book I thought the story would be told from Izzy's point of view. I was wrong. The story is told from the aunt's point of view and while that is ok, I felt the author could have made the book more interesting if she had led with Izzy's story. I did figure out "who did it...more

Death by Cashmere is the first in Sally Goldenbaum's Seaside Knitters series (she is also the author of the Queen Bees Quilt mystery series), and it's a lovely introduction to Sea Harbor, Massachusetts and the knitting group that meets in Izzy's shop. This charming story begins after Izzy has moved back to Sea Harbor, abandoning her law career to open a knitting shop. Her aunt Nell, Nell's elderly friend Birdie (a hoot!), and lobsterwoman Cass get together one evening a week to share food, gossi...more

Here are my main gripes with this 1st entry in a mystery series:

1. It is called “a seaside knitters mystery.” In truth, there are more food descriptions than yarn descriptions. Why not just “a seaside mystery?”

2. When I started reading this, I thought/hoped that Izzy, the knitting store’s proprietor, would be the sleuth. Alas! Her aunt, Nell, is the sleuth, and frankly, she’s not the most appealing character.

3. There are so many characters. After a while, it was tough to keep track of who’s who....more

This was the first in a new mystery series I wanted to try, and I'm glad I did. It was a really good, light mystery, with colorful characters. I loved the setting in the little seaside village in New England...the descriptions of the area were really good...and any knitters and crocheters will love all the references to yarns and the beautiful creations this little group of knitters came up with. Made me want to make a trip to the yarn shop and pick up my knitting needles.

Awesome book. Not that it was profound or particularly enlightening. Not exceptionally witty, and it never sent me to the dictionary... but the descriptions of the yarn shop and what the ladies were knitting and how they acted with eachother while knitting were what made this book come alive. Though, I have to admit to serious doubts about the ability to live as well as Izzy lives in this book on what a yarn shop can bring in... but it helps keep the dream alive.

I really enjoyed this mystery. The characters were pretty neat, all told, and I enjoyed the bond between friends and family here. The setting makes me want to live on the coast again, too. I grew up in coastal New England and miss it so much! That said, I totally knew who did it long before the end. While I do feel a tiny bit smug about figuring it out, I have to believe it really wasn't that hard, and therefore, perhaps Ms. Goldenbaum should make it less easy next time. That's the only nit I wi...more

The quiet Massachusetts village of Sea Harbor is disturbed when Angelina Archer dies. The beautiful, intelligent tenant of the apartment upstairs from Izzy's knitting shop had come home, although many people believe that she was planning to leave again. But when Angie's death is shown to be murder, the town panics, and it's up to Nell, her niece Izzie, lobster fisherman Cass (whose brother loved Angie), and elderly dynamo Birdie to find a ruthless murderer.
Linda
A very enjoyable and interesting cozy mystery. Believable characterizations with intriguing scenes and lovely descriptions of the seaside setting. My only criticism would be the rehashing of clues and events to the point where I wanted to say "OK, enough of that...we already know that". But definitely a good read and I will be ordering more of Sally Goldenbaum's books. Recommended for fans of light mysteries and, if you're a knitter, so much the better.

This is a fun read that once again takes place on the shores of Massachusetts. Ironically when I lived in New England I always enjoyed books of this nature(kind of Chick Lit) that had a Southern setting. This whodunit series revolves around Izzy the owner of a knitting shop and her Aunt/Uncle/ Boyfriend and Friends, but I immediately felt a part of the group and always enjoy visiting them time and again. Will add more to this as time goes by.

This book should've been right up my alley, death in a small town, knitting circles, lots of quaint settings. Problem was the pace was seriously slow, the point of view was all over the place, and I got seriously bored. There wasn't a lot of emotional investment in the story since there wasn't one point of view to consider or care about.

Sad, really, because it could've been a really good book. As it is, it's just okay.

I enjoyed the book. It is set in a seaside town in Maine. Where no murderds ever happen. Everyone in the town knows everybody and everthing that happens. So when one of their own shows up dead, the whole town wants to know how and why it happened. Then another one is killed and they are really worried. It is a good read and kept my interest, with only 296 pages and a knitting pattern I was happy about the book!

Probably my favorite 'cozy' to date! I love the backdrop Sally Goldenbaum creates for a fun range of characters - the seaside and knitting in a small-town community was bliss to read and enjoy. Made me want to drop everything and knit, knit, KNIT! (currently working on a neck wrap/scarf project called "the pidge" from a knitting shop in Iowa, which I picked up on the same trip on which Missy gave me this lovely book...)

Reading this book while sitting at the beach really added to the whole oceanside theme of the book. I liked the characters and this situation but, realistically, why to the police always have to look like such dolts. I had figured out the murderer long before the main characters which also made them look somewhat obtuse as well. But despite that I enjoyed the knitting and small town feel of the book.

A knitting mystery that takes place in a Massachusetts seaside town... need I say more? Actually, I just started it. I will say more later.

Ok so I finally finished. I have to say it didn't hold my attention too much once I figured out who did it...it's pretty predictable. I did like some of the characters and the knitting/Massachusetts stuff is fun so I wanted to finish. It's work a try if you are a knitter or want a breezy mystery. If you want something really thrilling and suspenseful you migh...more

This is a first of a cozy mysteries series that features a knitting group and the panoramic life living by the ocean in the Northeast. You are introduced to Nell and her niece Izzy who recently moved home giving up a law career to become a yarn shopkeeper. Additionally in this knotting group are Cass, a lobster fisherman, and Birdy, an eccentric older woman who has had 4 husbands. I will definitely read the next int he series.
