A sad love story but one that teach us a lesson. Maria by Jorge Isaacs is a well written novel that uses different elements to create a very well develop plot. The element use besides love are death and slavery. these three elements make the bread and butter of the whole novel. Love been the most important of them all and the one the involves the main characters in a world of their own. Death take center stage towards the end but it is present through the whole story and one as reader can sense

Aunque deja un regusto amargo, un amor que, con el pasar de los años, siempre siguio floreciendo, las circunstancias, no permitieron que se llevara a cabo, que el tiempo te arrebate lo que mas amas, realmente es desconcertante, una felicidad que estuvo al alcance de tus dedos, y que en un instante la muerte te quite lo que mas anhelas... es duro de asimilar! One of my first preferred books. Very romantic although with a sad ending, but it was perfect for a young teenager who was always dreaming.

Is an interesting book because tell us about the socity of Colombia, a little bit of the culture of that country... And a man who is extremely in love to a girl, who has been his friend since they were kids.

The narrative is very slow...it describes EVERYTHING....I just don't like the kind of novels that tend to describe every single detail of a scene. Thats why it was so boring to me.

Read it both in Spanish and English--recommended by my mother who had to read it in school. Loved it in Spanish, a lot more passion and feeling. Amazing detailed writing. You can almost feel the character's feelings.

Cursilería latinoamericana decimonónica. No envejeció bien y su lectura no fue placentera. Quizás para chicas de secundaria hipercursis o sensibles. No es mala. Peca de romántica.
