In Twilight, Bella goes insane when her mother re-marries and ships her off to live with her absent father. In trying to cope with this, Bella imagines a world where she is the centre of attention from every boy in school, especially the hottest, most desirable Edward Cullen. But Edward isn’t just the most desirable guy, no: he’s also a vampire, and sheer coincidence, Bella’s blood sings to him. This should be a problem, because Edward’s supposed...more

Here's the honest truth about this series: the writing is amateurish (and at times simply AWFUL), the characters are essentially one-dimensional, the plot is the epitome of formulaic... it's predictable, unoriginal, hokey and juvenile. And I positively couldn't put it down. I LOVED it--it does for women what porn does for men. But why is everyone in love with Edward??? Jacob could have me any day. Wow... I'm so embarrassed. ADMIT IT!!! YOU LOVED IT, TOO!!!!!!! Liar.

You see that one little star? It’s there because I can’t give this series a 0 stars, if I could, I would.

So I’m finally reviewing The Twilight Saga. Ugh, honestly I’d rather not because I know this will make me even more angry about these books, but I had to say my opinion on them. So if I sound angry in this review…. It’s probably because I am.

So let’s get started, shall we?

First of all, I’d like to say that yes, I did love these books the first time I read them, 3 years ago, I was kind of a f...more

This book was by far the best book i have ever read. Usually i dont find any interest in reading, but when i started Twilight i couldn't put it down. Ever since i read the Twilight series i've started reading on a regular basis. Even though i've read all the Twilight books i know that i will continue reading them over and over again and never get tired of them. I've told all of my friends about this book and they have read it and enjoyed it just as much as i did.

I feel like I'm being generous with my two stars. Writing? Overwrought. Plot? Sooo thin. Characters? Mostly unlikeable (or forgettable). Misogyny and patriarchy? Slathered on with a spackle knife. Thinly veiled hopes to compare her stories to "Romeo and Juliet" and "Wuthering Heights"? Meyer, c'mon. Mormon subtext? Go read storey321's review here: http://stoney321.livejournal.com/3171... because I will never top that.

However, after a really slow start, I tore through the last two. I guess Flanag...more

How this series was ever published is a complete mystery to me. How this became a BESTSELLER is just stupid.
I could rant all day but lets start at the so-called main character. Bella Swan is not the kind of strong female character that I like to see. In fact she's the complete opposite. She spends the entire series whining, sulking and just overall being useless (when she's not unconscious). What kind of a main character is she that when her "boyfriend" leaves she becomes a living zombie and sim...more

TWILIGHT IS AWESOME!!!! GO TWILIGHT!!! Alice is soooo my favorite. Cant wait till the movie!!!!

Before I talk about what many expect to hear from those who didn't like the series, I would like to say that this series actually had SOME moments of redeeming qualities. Alice is an amazing character. She is sweet, she is likeable and it's too bad she didn't become more of a main character. Jacob's character had a potential to be well-written and his tribe and perspective was sometimes interesting, but his likeability died for me in the 4th book for a reason that is a spoiler. That being said,...more

I used to think these books sounded stupid and refused to read them, making fun of anyone who did. However, when my nineteen-year-old self got dumped a few years ago and I was looking for a distraction, I decided "you can't knock it till you try it, right?" I read the whole series front to back in 4 days (which speaks more to the lack of complexity of this series than it does to my reading abilities) and here's my verdict:

This series is about as entertaining as reading a twelve-year-old girl's d...more

Okay, so Twilight is no _________________ (enter your favorite classic YA fiction here).

But I don't understand all the criticism. It is bordering on the obsession-like behavior that you so callously attribute to the Twilight-Lovers.

So, she isn't the best author, and her books have typos, grammatical errors, run-on sentences, etc.

Well, I never noticed too many. I was too busy alternating between hating Bella's stubborness, or crying (let's just say I'm hormonal), because of the heart-wrenching...more

These book are a shame to literature. One day, I can only hope and pray, this Saga will be laughed at in sheer disgust and mocked, and all who said that it was the "best and most romantic book ever" will be mocked as well. If your looking for gushy, teenager romance junk, than these are the books for you. If you want something truly romantic, characters that actually have personalities, and a plot that dousnt make you cringe and want to stab yourself, than don't even glance at these "books". It...more

This series depresses me, and I can't quite put my finger on why, but it does. The first time I read them it coincided with my 25th birthday, I chalked it up to feeling old, struggling with questions such as "A I doing what I love?" "Do I want to do this 25 years from now?” “Is this my life?” And all the other questions people struggle with when realizing they aren’t as young as they want to be.

The second time around however was no different, after reading the series in a three day haze, where...more

I am going to clump all the books into one review even though I preferred the first and 3rd books to the other 2. I enjoyed Breaking Dawn until I read the reviews about how dissapointed everyone was with the book...saying it was too perfect. I heard in Utah there is a group of ladies who have thought less of their husbands after reading about Edward and how perfect he is...a gentleman and handsome etc. Please! He's a vampire. I thought Breaking Dawn ended just how I wanted it too. Yes, there wer...more

OK all these books are good, but extremely frustrating at the same time.... He's like 150years old and has never had sex?!! Drives me crazy!! Just do it already!!! BY the end of the third one I'm so angry I can't see straight. The author does a really great job getting you to keep turning the pages, and just when you think there's gonna be awesome sex...None!! Oh the morals you can learn from this book. Maybe Bella wouldn't be so sad all the time if her cold, bloodsucking, boyfriend wasn't such...more

I have a bit of a soft spot for The Twilight Saga for one reason: it got me interested in reading. In school I always hated being told what to read in class and then forced to write absurd essays about what I had read. The reality of it was that out of all the books they told me to read, I only read one... and I hated it! The rest I ended up going online to read the synopsis and getting enough information to write my essays based on that. Twilight was the first book I ever started on my own with...more

It seemed like a good idea at the time.

Being young and not understanding true beauty in a book I read twilight secretly during the whole twilight craze.

I liked it because it put a new perspective on the whole mythological creatures. Especially the werewolves and the connection to the American Indians. I think if you wanted to use some artistic license and analyse this book further you could probably come up with something really deep and meaningful.

I disliked this book because the second time re...more

Though Stephanie Meyer's story had a great deal of faults, it is not nearly as awful as is often made out to be.

I was initially drawn to read the story after the initial release, as someone had told me there were werewolves in it. At the time, I hadn't read any good werewolf novels in a while, and this one had some hype behind it. I was thoroughly disappointed in some areas, but pleasantly surprised in others. I finished the saga to allow myself a fair assessment and opinion of the story, as too...more

At first I didn't get the hype. I couldn't understand what the fuss was about but once I started reading I was hooked like everyone else. I was pulled in with the romance part of it. The two characters made for a fantasy couple-The clumsy human girl next door type and the hot vampire guy every girl wants to sleep with. Well I honestly don't remember seeing my family that week since my head was in that book. Even though the setting was High School and the characters were teens- I still found myse...more

I think the books are better than the movies because in some of the stories they changed, added and took it things on the movie that wasn't on the book... I read the 4 book in 1 week because I was so bored. The moment I started reading I couldn't stop visualisating the all thing in my head and whe I saw the movies I didn't had to pay attetion because it seemed to me that I already had seen the movie. I thought the all idea of the book was very interesting and appealing but I think because of the...more

As most books, this series was also given so much hype had to know what all the fuss was about. At first, I was really hesitant to give in, but I'm glad I did. Stephenie Meyer opened my eyes to a fantasy fiction world that I probably would've never discovered. The first installment of four books is about a teenage girl who moves to the city of Forks to live with her father. That is where she discovers the world that is of Edward Cullen. Edward is part of a 'vegetarian' family of vampires that on...more

It took me a while to agree to give these books a chance but I certainly am glad that I gave in! These books are written for younger readers but they are still so wonderful. Stephenie Meyer does a wonderful job of painting vivid images in her readers' minds with her creative love story. I have chosen to include this book series in my Reading Writing Odyssey as a romance series. The story focuses around the young exciting love story of Edward and Bella and all of the obstacles that stand in the w...more

Despite all the criticism and hype there was over this saga, I really found that I was able to enjoy reading a book that was a part of the paranormal/fantasy genre. The saga is ultimately a love story between a mortal (later turned vampire) human girl, Bella, and a vampire, Edward. The author, Stephanie Meyer, did a good job using descriptive writing to help allow readers to imagine what could be going on and to keep them hooked until the final book.

I believe that without the author's vivid use...more

I was born in Connecticut in 1973, during a brief blip in my family's otherwise western U.S. existence. We were settled in Phoenix by the time I was four, and I think of myself as a native. The unusual spelling of my name was a gift from my father, Stephen (+ ie = me). Though I have had my name spelled wrong on pretty much everything my entire life long, I must admit that it makes it easier to goo...more
