Have you ever read the book The River? This novel written by Gary Paulsen is great. Once you start reading it, you will be instantly glued. Brian is the main character in this novel. For those that have read Hatchet, you know how Brian had been lost in the Canadian woods and survived. Now a man named Derek wants to go back with him to those woods and learn the way Brian survived so he can teach other people. Brian and Derek finally get to the lake and start unpacking the gear. Brian says to sen...more

The River by Gary Paulsen is about a teenaged boy named Brian Robeson who has recently survived nearly two months on an island by himself with just a hatchet. Now a psychologist from a government survival school wants Brian to go back into the wilderness and survive for another extended period of time so they can teach others how to survive on their own in the wilderness. After thinking about this Brian agrees to do it. Once Brian and the psychologist, Derek, reach the island Brian decides to se...more

Being one of the many sequels to Gary Paulsen’s “Hatchet” this makes for a very good book. In this story Brian Robenson is confronted by an instructor for a training institution for astronauts and military soldiers. The instructor had heard about Brian’s survival story and was curious to find out how he had survived. The instructor was in hopes that he could take Brian to a new area of woods and show him how he survived. After a long conversation with Brain’s mother he was finally allo...more

People compare this book to Hatchet I personally think Hatchet worse than this book. For people who think it is just one "misadventure" after another must not have great taste in books. This book consists of all the fundamentals of a great book; action, adventure, love, humor. It isn't as much as getting into the "mishaps" but how he gets out of them. Brian having save someone while also having to survive the harsh conditions of the Candadian wilderness was intriging. Paddlin...more

I think that this was a very intence book, but it would be easier to understand if you read the hatchet first. This book is all about the stuggles man have with nature and themselves. This was a story of tence conflict and heroism. The main character in this story has already has been in this situation before in the first book. I liked the fact that the book had alot of conflict, and sometimes it felt like nothing went right. Gary paulsen is a great author and his details in the story make the w...more

Another great piece by Gary Paulsen. This book is the sequel to the ever popular book "Hatchet". In this book, Brians adventures come from him trying to help people by showing them how to survive in the wilderness. Unfortunatley, all hell breaks lose and things go down the drain. He ends up having to save the person filming him and survive going down a river on a raft he made out of logs. Another adventerous novel by Gary Paulsen that I would recomend to anyone.

I had read Hatchet as a kid and liked it and also read 'Harris and Me' by this author and thought I would give this a try. I liked the main character Brian but there wasn't that much to the book. By reading the back cover you pretty much read the entire book. But it's worth the two hours it takes to read the book. I like how mature Brian is because of his experience and how he gets you to think about how it would really be like to be on your own.

Hatchet was better, of course, but this one propelled me through as no other book has done recently. My 11-year-old son loved it as much as Hatchet, but for different reasons. I read it in one sitting! The time-element really added a sense of urgency and I still love Brian's character and Paulsen's writing. We also enjoyed discussing the book! Which is, always, a GOOD thing.

This is the sequel to 'The Hatchet' where the kid goes back out to the site of his previous survival episode with a reporter guy or something to show him around. If I remember correctly the guy gets injured and the kid has to make a raft and take him down the river to get help or something. From what I remember it was definitely nowhere near as good as 'Hatchet.'

Once again, Brian is asked to preform his tactics for survival in a forest area similar to the first one he encountered. Only this time, an official comes to take notes, but shortly after their arrival in the forest, drastic events happen that puts one of them in a coma, and the other having to fight against a river that may be the only way to shelter.

This book is a sequel to Hatchet. Brian is taken on another adventure with Derek. Deredk is a news reporter. He wanted to know how Brian survived. They are back in the woods, and Derek has gone into a comma. Read the book and find out how Brian survived with nothing, but a hatchet and a person in a comma.

This book was a continuation from "The Hatchet" and it makes a great sequel! This book did just as well as its others and even better. The main character, Brian, goes through so much in this story and as far as i know wrapped up his thrilling adventures. Yet they ended it well so I have no complaints.

The story of this book was a little cheesy. Some of the events occured like it could only happen in a book. Like when the lightning stroke down on the observer. This seems like something just to make a problem out of nowhere. This is why I gave this book a three star review.

I think overall as a book I like this one more than the first. Something about the dangers of the river combined with keeping someone else alive besides himself, it made Brian's adventures all the more impressive and his growth even more incredible.

SEQUEL TO HATCHET!!!! Brian has to use what he's learned in Hatchet to survive on a survival mission with a man who's fallen into a coma. He matures even more. Maybe I just find mountain men sexy or something.

This book could be better if it had a better story line then him just going down the river. He has to build his own raft and make it down the river to a post. He really didn't go thru that many challenges.

This was a fantastic book. It is a sequal to Gary Paulsen's timeless classic, "Hatchet". I would definitely recommend this book for anybody who has a sense of adventure and thrill inside of them.

I read this shortly after reading Hatchet. I think Gary Paulsen is a great writer and as a young reader I would have loved this book, I'm probably just too old to enjoy it now.
