This book is rife with problems, the foremost of which is the difficulty in figuring out what is actually going on. Three disconnected plot threads flail away at each other. One features the protagonist as an old man but absolutely nothing comes of it; another tells the story of an Earth doomed by immanent invasion; neither occupy much time or energy compared to the story of Ran Hudson, escaped slave.

The book doesn't offer much, nothing original or interesting. The idea of an overextended galact
