This is a read I will forever remember and hope to read it more times than just this once. Although the book is fiction it is based off so much fact that you can truly imagine what it was like for the Savior, the Son of God to live his life upon this earth. I have thought about His life numerous times but I have never compared it to my own and the experiences I have on a daily basis and after reading this book I realized that the Savior lived his life here upon the earth experiencing things as w

This book was good. Not great. Mark and I read this together and by the time we got 3/4 through, we were losing the spirit of the book. I felt like the author took a little too many liberties filling in things about the Savior's life. This book is taken from the perspective of a mute boy who ends up growing up in Jesus' family. I did like this perspective and thinking about how Christ might've been as he grew up. My main frustration with this book was the over-usage of the phrase, "Fe

Definitely a good read. This is the story of a mute boy who ends up becoming a servant to Mary and Joseph's family. He grows up alongside Jesus and follows him through his earthly ministry. It took me a lot longer to read through this than I expected. I had to really think through where they were in each part of the story as it related to the scriptures. The book includes some very interesting historical information that helps you better understand the culture of the time. I only gave it t

I became closer to Jesus by reading this wonderful book. What a great experience the author gives to the reader. Thank you Toni Sorenson for allowing us the opportunity to walk with Jesus and live with him and his wonderful family who taught, loved and protected him. Not only did we see Jesus turn to his Heavenly Father in prayer and guidance, we also see Jesus as the Son of Man because of the love His mortal parents raised him with. Joseph was a person I didn't know until I read this book an

This book was interesting for me. I realized I don't appreciate historical fiction involving our Savior's life. This was a surprising realization to me because I absolutely love historical fiction, especially LDS historical fiction!! Our Savior's life seems too special, too sacred, to be the topic of a novel. (I must say that the author was in no way sacreligious, or disrespectful in her writing.)
Although I didn't love reading this book, you might. My father-in-law, Ron, and More...

Master tells the story of the life of Jesus Christ.
Almon said, "Jesus was who He said He was.
I know because I was there in the shadows of His holy footseps.
His miracles were real. I know because I was one of those miracles."
This is an amazing story told by a young man, who becomes a scribe an whose whole life

I loved this book. This book got me into reading alot of the New Testament with it. I bought it at the Atlanta Temple bookstore.
I need to read it again to give it a better review. It has been a few years since I have read it so I wouldn't do it justice. The author did a beautiful job. WOW!!
It is a story about a boy who grew up near Jesus Christ. The boy of course is fiction, but Christ's story isn't. I think just about everything that Christ says in the book are in the More...

This is a fictional account of a servant who was taken in by Mary and Joseph when Jesus was just a toddler. He lives with the family and serves them. I really enjoyed the fictional story and descriptions of Christ as a child. It was very well done and helped me to imagine better what it might be like to be around Christ and his family growing up. Once the story meets with scripture, it held my interest less, as it became sort of just a summary of the scriptural account and I'd just rather read t

This is a book, like Ben Hur or The Robe, that intertwines a story about a fictional character with a story about Jesus.
The fictional character, a boy named Almon, was a member of Jesus’ household, so He is much more present in this book.
Anything Jesus said in the book was taken from scripture. The story was respectful. But there was a lot of fiction, too. About Almon’s life, his interactions with Mary, Joseph, and Jesus, and many other characters.

Master is the story of the life of Jesus Christ told through Almon, a mute found by Joseph, Mary, and Jesus in the desert on their way back from Egypt. Almon’s father had been killed by bandits, and Almon had been left for dead. Almon was taken with the family back to Nazareth and made a servant - not a slave - in Joseph’s household. He eventually gains his freedom and is educated as a Jewish scribe in Jerusalem. Almon, early on, begins to understand the mission of Jesus and devotes his life

This book was highly recommended to me by 2 different people. Basically this book is the story of the life of Jesus through the eyes of a mute boy. He and his father are traveling through the desert when his father is killed and he is left to die. Mary, Joseph and young Jesus come upon him on their way back from Egypt and take him in.
It was a good book, but I found myself constantly thinking about the fact that the author is making things up to fill in the story of Jesus' life. As I More...

Over Easter weekend I read Master by Toni Sorenson. The timing may have colored my perspective of this retelling of the incredible events documented in the four gospels of the New Testament. To those who have read the New Testament and attended Sunday School classes, there is nothing new found in this story of Christ's life and teachings.

For me this book started out better than it ended. Couple of reasons: the beginning of the story was a new one, unfamiliar, a new perspective on what it might have been like to be part of the holy family (the main character is taken in by Joseph and Mary when they find him wounded in the desert). I liked the author's thoughts on Jesus as a child and the family relationships. But then as we moved into Jesus' ministry, character development and storyline I guess necessarily took a hit as the autho

If this book was the first historical fiction book about the Savior's life that I had read, I might have enjoyed it a lot more. I really like how the book explores how one boy has to learn to forgive himself and believe that the power of the atonement applies to him as well as everyone else. As with other books similiar to this, this book caused me to think about what kind of believer I would have been if I lived with the Savior. It's such a good reminder that He is very real. I love that!

Excellent book and I highly recommend it. Fictional character Almon, now an orphan, is rescued from the desert at the tender age 9 by Joseph and Mary who take him into their home. He serves their household and Jesus who at the time is at the tender age of 3. Almon is entrusted into his care to help look after Him and serve in the house of Joseph. Almon's life is filled with serving, becoming a scribe, learning carpentry from Joseph and watching Jesus grow to manhood as He embarks on His mort

Attempting to write Christ's story in the format of an ordinary novel isn't something to be taken on lightly. But I am happy to say that Toni Sorenson did it beautifully. This is a beautiful and moving look at Christ's life, told from the perspective of a young boy who watches him. It brings so much life to the biblical stories - it didn't degrade them in any way. This book only deepened my love for the Savior.

This story about the life of our Savior was beautifully and reverently written. It helped me to imagine being there, witnessing the events as they unfolded. If you're looking for an uplifting book to read through the holidays, this would be perfect. I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 because at times the writing seemed forced so that the author could get the story in as accurately as possible.

I enjoyed this story of a mute man who grew up in the household of Joseph, Mary, and Jesus. Retells almost if not all of the miracles, parables, sermons, and happenings in the life of Christ. Fun way to write the New Testament stories in my heart. I also enjoyed learning more about the Jewish way of life in the time of Christ--definitely gave new perspective to living in the time of Christ.

I had read mixed reviews about this book before reading it last year. It is a story about the life of the Savior told through the eyes of a fictional character, a mute boy named Almon. I did enjoy the book, but there were times that I thought the author took too many liberties in painting the personalities of the apostles or Jesus' family.

It was very neat to be able to actually picture the landscaping of where Christ went when He was living on the earth. It really helped with the timeline of when things happened, also. It was a fantastic book! I loved more the historical facts than the other fictional story in it, though.

This might be my favorite book ever. I absolutely loved the kind of insight into the daily life of a jew at the time of Jesus and very much made his life come alive to me. For that, if for nothing else, I am grateful to this author. I would reccomend to anyone that it is worth reading.

My husband was a little shocked when I told him this book was one of my favorite books EVER! Words can't really describe my feelings for this book, yet I feel I should at least say that I feel changed for having read it--changed in a great way. I have learned more about who Christ was. I feel a deeper appreciation for Him and am in awe His character and love for all. This author truly brought the scriptures to life for me. Now that I have read this book, as I go to the scriptures and read the st

I absolutely loved the descriptions she gave of Christ as a child....the story line is touching and very believable, as if it is very possible that these very things could have happened as Jesus grew....I loved it and it made me feel closer to Him by reading it.

My grandma gave me this book while I was in Utah. It has an interesting plot line--Told from the point of view of Almon, a young mute boy, he is rescued from bandits by Mary and Joseph as they are making their journey back from Egypt to Nazareth, and he becomes their servant/adopted child.
It is interesting to think what Jesus must have been like as a child. Think about having a child who is perfect. What a thought! One part that was thought-provoking for me was the fact that Jesus's br More...

This book gave insight as to what life was like during Jesus' time and what living with Him and among his family and friends might have been like. I really enjoyed the perspective and read it over Christmas for an added dimension to the life of Christ.

This novel was so great. Toni Sorenson has a beautiful way of writing. She leads the reader on a path through the life of Christ. After reading this book I have a different perspective on the life of Christ. I think everyone should read this book

I really don't know what to rate this book. It's a story about the life of Jesus and his family. It's told from the perspective of a mute boy who Joseph found orphaned in the desert when Jesus was a young boy himself. This orphan becomes the family servant and then Jesus' servant as He serves everyone else in His ministry.

I thought this book was a great way to go through the life of the Savior though the eyes of a fictional character. The history and facts were accurate and it was uplifting. Can't go wrong with uplifting. There were a couple of times I wished the author had gone into more details with the main character but it was a good book.

I got sucked into this book. It was amazing, i felt like i was there, and i was amazed at Almons faith. A mute boy with a difficult past, is the servant of Christ, and he sees all the miracles of Christ. Its a good religious book.

I was hoping for more of an enlightening read, but found this to be way more fictional than fact.
I was disappointed in the author's attempt to "fill in the blanks" with information that we know nothing about like Jesus's brothers and sisters and information about the apostles.
I was confused and had a hard time believing the character Almon. He seemed to be all knowing at times, then only knowing what he was witnessing, and then struggling with his own past issues. I wi More...
