Not as chilling as I was led to believe…

I can’t even get into a description with this one before giving my honest opinion. I think this is the first time I’ve ever read a book where there doesn’t feel like there’s a main character. I mean, the synopsis has Sandy Crosbie as the main character. While you do see a lot of her and what’s going on in her life, the teens in the book, the sheriff and his family… it’s like equal exposure. Chilling journal entries? Um, I think not. And I could...more

Joy Fielding is one of my favourite authors and I always jump at the chance to pick up her latest. This one did not disappoint. It's about a small town sheriff who is on the hunt for a killer after 3 young woman were killed.

There is not much to say about this one because it's really not that deep. I especially liked that this was a very fast read, like all her books usually are. And even though I figured out who the killer was about half-way through that did not slow my pace at...more

Less than 100 pages in I figured out "who done it," so no point in finishing. I don't particularly like the writing, it's MUCH too rambling for me to maintain interest. My mind kept wandering every time the narrator would go off on yet another tangent about their sordid past. Most of the time, even if I know the big twist, I'll still read the book to find out how things unfold, but here I just don't care and I'm certain I already have a pretty good idea of how things will go anyway....more

I have always loved Joy Fielding. She's the type of author where I don't even have to look at the description on her books because I know they are going to be good. I bought this book because I haven't read anything of hers in while. That being said, I was pretty surprised at how how long it took me to get into this book. I normally read a book in a day. With this one, I found myself putting it down a lot more that I picked it up. There were too many stories going on at once and too many charact...more

Well, I had to turn this off and look for another audio book. There is no way to say it nicely, the book began to bore me to tears. Usually, when I listen to a book, it has to be riveting enough to help me through 30 minutes of weights and 30 minutes of the ellipitical every morning. By about chapter 10 of this book I decided to fast forward through all the chapters and listen to the music on my ipod.
This is the conundrum with audiobooks, you can't easily skim the boring parts. I thin...more

From back cover:

"Welcome to Torrance, Florida. Population: 4,160. As Sheriff John Weber would attest, the deadliest predators to date in his tiny hamlet were the alligators lurking in the nearby swamps. But that was before someone adbudcted and murdered a runaway teenage girl...and before the disappearance of popular and pretty Liana Martin. The pattern is chilling to Sandy Crosbie, the town's new high school English teacher. With a marriage on the rocks, thanks to her husband's...more

Lagi2 Joy Fielding mmasukkn urusan prselingkuhan k dlm bukunya.Kali ini si suami ninggalin istri+anak2nya demi wanita yg hmpir smua onderdil tbuhnya udh dijejali silikon/plastik/botox.Bener2 deh ni lelaki,cm bs mkir pake ap yg ad d balik celananya.Untung sj si suami ini bner2 tipe lelaki brengsek,jd yg bc gak smp emosi wkt dia pamer kmesraan sana sini sm wanita jalang pilihannya.

Gak nyangka klo pelakunya trnyata si 'itu'.Dan lagi2,penganiayaan masa kecillah yg mmbuatnya jd seorg psik...more

I would have to agree with the writer who made the comment about Delilah's weight. I work in a Middle School and many of the girls are about Delilah's height and weight and are quite popular. It was annoying to be constantly told how heavy she was and then to find out she is probably around a size 10 or 12. Certainly not anorexic but not obese either. It was also unrealistic to attribute all of the rejection and bullying to the so-called "weight problem". Other than that it was a ...more

I like Joy Fielding books a great deal. They are an easy read, but still have enough excitment to draw me in and keep me hooked until the end. This story wasn't her strongest but was still an interesting read none the less. The trials and tribulations of high school life are realistic, as is the new teacher (Sandy Crosbie) and her unwillingness to see her husband for what he is until the very end. The character's seem real and can easily be identified with. In this book the character's seem...more

This book is a murder mystery that takes place in a small town in Florida. One of the main characters is Sandy, a school teacher who has moved to Torrence with her Dr. husband only to find out that he has come there to meet up with his on-line romantic partner. We follow two stories here: her personal story and the terror of knowing a murderer is on the loose, killing young women.

I didn't care much for this book. The author made all the characters so unlikeable that you really didn't care what happened to any of them. I understand wanting to make characters as believable as possible, but that also includes having some good qualities too! I also thought the writing style was a bit tedious and overdone. Just didn't like it all that much.

HUGE disappointment. I've never read anything by Fielding before, and not sure I will again. The cover copy seemed quite promising as I tend to enjoy suspense novels and serial killer thrillers. But I was able to figure out who the killer was within the first 100 pages, so the following 500 were a bit plodding for me. There also seemed to be a lot of soapbox passages, especially when it came to body image in girls and women, which I felt were completely unnecessary and too much repetition. ...more

I loved this book and was kept in suspense throughout. This is my second Joy Fielding book and so far my favorite. I will be reserving her other books at the library as well. I am surprised at some of the less than favorable reviews I've seen on this site, but even so this book has received an overall high review. I would definitely recommend this to a friend.

It's an okay book. On a 1-10 I'd give it a 4 or 5. Wasn't as great as I would have hoped. The characters lacked depth. The only character who had some depth was the killer. But they had good details, just you could guess who the killer was around 150-200 pages in and then it just got boring cause you basically knew who it was, who they were after next and it's just boring.

This was a very entertaining book. It was a murder mystery, which I don't usually read that often. It kept my interest throughout. However, I 'solved' the mystery almost half way through and that was disappointing. I kept hoping that I was wrong. Otherwise, it was a good book.

I can't say I loved this book. I do enjoy this author so I was pretty disappointed. It wasn't as catchy and fast paced as I expected it to be and I figured out who the killer was about halfway thru, like many other reviews stated. Of course, it did have a few chunks where I didn't want to put the book down but nothing outstanding. Maybe I'll give another novel of hers a shot because the only other book I've read by her and enjoyed was Puppet, which I found to be a fast read.

Not the strongest book by her but I was interested enough to keep on reading. There are a lot of characters that she wants you to think are the killer but after reading about half of the book I did get an inkling who it was and I was right.
A bit weird though, not really realistic but I did enjoy the read. Quick paced. Loved the deputy ;)

Joy fielding defies classification - one never knows what to expect from a book of hers. This ones was a suspense story with a surprise ending. I found it melodramatic, but it kept my interest throughout anyway.
Marie
This was a real page turn with a whallop of a surprise ending. It definitely rates five stars for me because my teenage son got a hold of it and read it clear through. That alone deserves the highest rating !

There is a serial killer in a small town. Will the killer be caught before he claims his next victim?

There are all sorts of suspects; each person has you thinking that he/she might be the killer.

Cathy Spicer
A; A quick and easy read. A serial killer is terrorizing a small town. The author does a good job presenting several possible suspects. I was caught off guard when the real villian was revealed.
Julie
very erratic. characters not believable although a few likable. not plausible.... frustrating to read. the voice was not clear. I will hesitate to pick up any of her other books.
Julia
characters lack depth, mostly conform to stereotypes, ending was predictable...not really my style, it was left by a cottage guest, I was desperate....I will not make that mistake again....
P
A murder mystery; quick read, not very clever; despite author's attempt to throw reader off track (which were very obvious) it was easy to guess who the murderer was

I got this book in a book swap.. and it was okay.. Good story line but, it dragged for me.. Language and suggestive material.. Not sure I would read again.
Irene
a quick paced read, kept me guessing as to who the killer was till the last chapter... kept me interested, and enjoyed the authors style of writting...
