A good straightforward biography about John M. Browning and the many firearms that he designed. This is not a book interested in finding the "dirt" on John Browning. Which it wouldn't be since it was commissioned by the Browning Firearm Company. But ,regardless of that, there wouldn't be any dirt. Mr. Browning was a mechanical genius with simple tastes and a Mormon. He just wasn't a controversial man.

I won't bother listing the many firearms that Browning designed. The book does an excellent job

This book did an exceptionally good job about making a straight-to-the-point biography of an iconic craftsman in the firearms industry. One thing to admire about this biography is that it does not simply focus on anything that was behind Browning’s image, but rather focused on Browning himself and his career as the master craftsman that he was. This book held nothing back when it comes to how Browning was brought up around guns, growing up in his father’s gun shop, and how that led him to his ow ...more
Inspiring. He grew up in his father's dilapidated gun shop, invented his own gun and went on to dominate the world of firearms design for decades inventing nearly every modern form of firearm we know today. In a world where a designer would labor for years to invent a new firearm and would be lucky to invent 1 successful arm in their lifetime Browning churned out 2 or 3 successful designs every year. In a world where machine guns where un-reliable and complicated his simple design was tested wit ...more
We read this out loud as a family and so enjoyed the story of the Brownings. The biography was made more of a reality for us when we went to the Browning museum in Ogden, Utah and saw most of the guns he invented. What an amazing mind he had. We were also able to see the father Browning home in Nauvoo, Illinois. I love reading about history, but I love reading and "seeing" history even better.
This is a very interesting and accurate biography of John Browning. The only thing wrong with it is that it's too short. As good as it is and as well as it's written you'll wish it was much longer. Highly recommended.

Not the greatest book, but I loved to read about this unique hard working American.
