I really enjoyed the entire series. I know they're geared more towards teenagers, but these are so well written and thought out that I can't help, but be a little hooked as an adult reading these.

I don't think the gist of the entire plot was obvious to every single reader, but I had mostly everything solved reading the first book. I'm like that, obnoxiously so (my best friend thinks watching Criminal Intent & CSI: NY with me is the most hilarious thing. I solve the entire case in 15 minutes....more

I can't imagine this shit continuing for another four books, it has gotten so contrived. Snap! what a perfectly creepy ending to this addictive series. I was kind of sad to see it end, but there is no way it could have been drawn out much longer. all the answers to the question you didn't know you should be asking were served up in this finale.

Snap! what a perfectly creepy ending to this addictive series. I was kind of sad to see it end, but there is no way it could have been drawn out much longer. all the answers to the question you didn't know you should be asking were served up in this finale.

This whole series is filled with so many twist, I thought I had it figured out and by the middle of the book I was so pleased with myself for figuring it all out, until the ending came. I couldn't believe how wrong I had been, even though I was right. That probably makes no sense if you haven't read this, but if you have you are saying "EXACTLY!!!!".

Now that I'm done with the series I have a couple of nagging comments.

First, how about the fact that so many of the story lines were just dropped when it became irrelevant to "A" or "Ali's" murder. If they would have been cleared up I would have felt a little less strung along. Like Wilden and his old amish lifestyle and the missing ex-girlfriend as well as some erratic behavior (I personally don't think the fact the he knew the DiLaurentis' family secret would make him act quite as crazy as he did), Jason and his outburst at Emily, Emily's Ex-boyfriend's crazy mom, Ali's decorations on the flag are not completely explained and other stuff along those lines. I understand that everyone needed to be connected to odd behavior and deep secrets in order to make the suspense last to the ending point, but other irrelevant plot lines were easily cleared up.

And let's not get started on how Spencer's memory kept changing anytime someone suggested someone else as the killer. It was annoying, especially because she was easily the most likable of the four other than the fact that she became an unreliable character about half way through the series.

Even with the few things that bothered me throughout the whole series I LOVED every minute of it, reading most of them in one night a piece. Sara Shepard did a brilliant job of stringing us and her characters along. The situations the girls found themselves in were juicy and at times heart-breaking. I really came to care about these not-so-perfect girls.

I wanted to read this book because the front cover was bright, glossy and it looked very convincing. My favourite character in this book was one of the main characters, Alison DiLaurentis, who's very cunning, persuasive and could get anyone to do what she wanted. The PLL series has a pretty good plot; the whole "my-best-friend-was-murdered-and-now-the-unknown-killer-is-cyber-bullying-us" thing. It's pretty clever, and it's a mystery that you'd want to stay to the end and solve. However, I'm not a fan of the main characters. All they make is mistake after mistake, and it makes you wonder if they really do belong in jail. Spencer and Melissa Hastings are sisters, however, they have some similarities and differences. Melissa is their parent's favorite. Atleast that's how Spencer see's it. Spencer makes a mistake, she's yelled at. Melissa does, no one cares. It's like nothing ever happened. Somehow, Melissa seems to get away with everything.Unfair huh? Also, I bet Spencer and Melissa are total enemies. All they do is scream at eachother. Spencer acts differently than Melissa. She seems much more nice and kind than Melissa. Also, they look alike (well of course they're sisters!) but they also look like their not 100% sisters... There's a reason behind that... In fact, a shocking one. It somehow involves Alison DiLaurentis, but you'll have to read the book to know the answer! Spencer is really sneaky though. She happened to date Melissa's boyfriend, Ian, at the same time. That's a similarity, but again, there is a reason to that. I honestly like Spencer better. She is kind, nice and she is somewhat curious of things. She somehow seems to attract all of Melissa's boyfriends though. Wierd huh? But the reason why I like Spencer more is because even though she goes through so much, shee still manages to smile and be happy.

I strongly recommend this book to peple who love drama and suspense. However, remeber that this book has some mature content and that it may have some cursing. This book was really entertaning to me and i was not able to put it down.

So how does it hold up as an ending? Especially to a series renowned for its plot twists, its narrative chicanery? Actually pretty well. By volume eight, Shepard is straining credibility somewhat, and the girls do the odd stupid things (because they have to if her characters are to end up where she needs them for the plot), but mostly she juggles all the narrative threads well.

There is a pretty grisly description of a body in this volume, and this level of description of violence is something that the series has otherwise avoided – despite having quite a few dead bodies lurking in its pages – and I took this to be a sign that Shepard knows her original readers of the series will have grown up a few years, and that they’re now ready for something a bit more adult. This was refreshing to see – the series doesn’t remained pitched at one level, Shepard is willing to allow it to evolve.

I think the success of this series has been down to its central four characters – Emily, Hanna, Aria and Spenser have all been well thought out, they live on the page. They complement and they clash against one another in bright and interesting ways. Ultimately I think this has been a series about the lives of these four girls, and that the A mystery and who killed their best friend is something of background music – sometimes it swells up and overwhelms everything, but the series always returns back to the Pretty Little Liars, and their lives. It is the humanity of the series that has kept it grounded.

As I said in a previous review of this series, Pretty Little Liars was never aimed at me, but I enjoyed the ride very much. And now, with four more novels on the horizon, the ride is no longer over (and I will retain judgment on the needfulness of the these four sequels until I’ve actually read them, but I am going in feeling that the series has ended satisfactorily, and that they are unnecessary - much like the prequel trilogy to Star Wars). Nevertheless, Shepard should be applauded for rounding the story of nicely, and for getting youngsters reading and enjoying literature.(less)

Rather, maybe Courtney had come home briefly between hospitals during the same week when the girls had tried to steal Ali's time capsule flag. When confronted about their plotting, it had really been Courtney who talked to them, while, at the same time, Ali was mistaken for her twin and taken away to the institution. For two years, Courtney pretended to be her sister, dramatically dropping Ali's friends and taking up Aria, Spencer, Hanna, and Emily has her new BFF's. When it was actually Ali who came home to see if she had adjusted to the real world in order to live with her family, she killed her sister, went away as Courtney, and then eventually came back as Courtney again... only to reveal to the Liars that she – as Ali – was back; it had been Courtney who died in that gazebo hole.

Confused yet?

Either way, there are two glaring facts: one, the girls were duped – big time, and, two, no one should ever trust a DiLaurentis... except Aria, Spencer, Hanna, and Emily again made the same mistakes in Wanted that they made as middle school students, playing directly into Ali... and, seeing as how they were the same person, A's hands. Apparently, the girls haven't heard of a very important maxim: fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. Aria was the only one who didn't immediately rush blindly forward to be Ali's friend for a second time, but even she, too, caved once Ali set her up to believe that Aria's boyfriend had cheated on her... with and unwilling Ali. And Ali played similar tricks with the other girls as well, alienating them from everyone else but her and making sure that they were firmly under her control. She convinced Spencer that Melissa had killed Courtney; she made Hanna a laughing stock again with Kate, Riley, and Naomi; and she seduced Emily so that Emily believed Ali wanted to be with her romantically, too. All the while, she was planning her ultimate revenge.

Of all the books so far, of all the mistakes that Aria, Spencer, Hanna, and Emily have made since the body was first discovered beneath the DiLaurentises' gazebo foundation, the mistakes they stumbled through in Wanted were probably their worst, their most glaring. While forgiveness is an admirable thing, it isn't if it is offered blindly, foolishly, and that's exactly what the Liars offered Ali. Somehow, they seemed to immediately forget all those horrible, nasty things she had done to them when they were friends. They forgot what an expert liar, manipulator, and devious plotter she was. In fact, even before she had befriended them and used their secrets against them, she had essentially acted as though they were nonexistent. No matter which version of her story Alison fed them, the girls never should have fallen for her lies for a second time... yet they did, and, evidently, they're not done acting so gullible. With no body yet to be found in the remains of the DiLaurentises' cabin, the Liars should not be settling so comfortably into their lives; they should never stop looking over their shoulders. Because of their naivete, it took a little joy out of reading Wanted. Perhaps the only good thing that has come out of Ali and A's mess in this book is the fact that the girls have finally really and truly become friends, and they are also getting their family lives back in order. But how long will the peace, quiet, and contentment last; how soon before A – whether Ali or someone new – strikes again?(less)

AMAZING!!!! I'm going to try write a review without spoilers, but it's going to be hard. This book has so many twists, it's so fast paced, and gripping, that I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN!!! After seven deliciously juicy segments in the Pretty Little Liars saga, I must say I was expecting big things from the final book. The book, Wanted, from the Pretty Little Liars series written by Sara Shepard, is fantabulous. I had so many favorite parts that I can't just choose one! She had many descriptive passages which lead me to read more and more. She ended every chapter with suspense and mystery. I couldn't wait to read more of what she wrote. As much as I was spending every waking moment wondering how it was going to end…And as absolutely satisfying as the ending was…It was definitely one of those series where I will miss the characters that I was just getting to know, miss all the rush, the excitement, and (of course) the secrets.

Every time I picked up a new book in the series, I was surprised, because it’s definitely one of the most unique stories that I’ve ever read—Not just a YA about angsty teenagers, their crushes, and their parents who don’t understand (not that those types don’t have their very own special place in my heart). And sadly, there weren’t any vampires or werewolves (although there were plenty of your everyday high-school-brand witches). But it was an honest-to-goodness, who-dunnit mystery.

Pretty Little Liars is a little bit of a throwback to another generation’s classics; I would put it up there right next to every Agatha Christie and Mary Higgins Clark that I’ve ever read (a lot and all, respectively). And Shepard’s Rosewood could easily be a modern Peyton Place, each with their hotbeds of secrets and scandals living just beneath the sparkling small-town veneer of perfection.

Pretty Little Liars was such a refreshing read compared to a lot of the books I grew up with, where everything was just as perfect as it looked—If a girl snuck out to go to a party and found drinking or drugs there, she didn’t partake, she learned a lesson. If you were afraid your parents wouldn’t understand, they would, and you’d be so relieved when you told them the truth. Some parents don’t understand, and some teenagers drink and do drugs. Shepard isn’t condoning any of it, but she also doesn’t pretend it doesn’t happen, either. There’s no preaching; Shepard is telling a totally different kind of story and the morality and the lessons are all up to the reader.

This wasn’t a catastrophic case of cheating on the SATs, or even cheating on someone’s bf…not that there wasn’t a little of that going on, too. There was an ACTUAL. DEAD. BODY. (actually a few). There was a dangerous creepy stalker (a couple), blackmail (a lot), and tons of twists and turns. And from the beginning, I knew I wouldn’t know the truth until the last page of the last book.

Which isn’t to say I didn’t have my guesses and my suspects. Which is to say, I suspected everyone. I speculated on everything from long-lost twins to the blind girl not really being blind. So at the end, yes, I did totally see that coming…but with a hundred different theories percolating in my head, one was bound to be right. I LOVE mysteries, and I also suck at them. Everything was a clue to me, everyone was a suspect. And Sara Shepard is definitely a master at leaving clues and implicating the innocent, at telling you just enough to keep you on your toes.

And the most amazing part was the way that Shepard could simultaneously have me on the edge of my seat, give me enough closure to hang on until I opened the next book, which picked up seamlessly from its predecessor. It was so juicy and satisfying…While I don’t mind a little fast food fiction, I have to say this series is a three course meal, plus dessert!(less)

Yet, throughout our tome, we have received reports that pernicious gazeboman Billy Ford may not be as heinous as he first appeared. If Ford was not the murderer in days of yore, who could have committed the foul crime? And are our fair fabulists in danger whilst relaxing with their newly rectified friend?

In order to forge greater bonds in the chain of friendship, the young maidens reenact the fateful night of Courtney's murder. Alison once again attempts to compel her friends. Once they emerge from their state of sleepfulness, Alison has vanished once more. Then the mythomaniacs find the letter. It tells the story of two sisters. As we knew, Alison had been posing as Courtney. What had never been revealed was that Courtney had played the part of Alison. When our storytellers had been rescued from obscurity by Alison and placed in their positions of power, Alison had been Courtney. After years spent locked away as Courtney, the true Alison became just as addled as her sister. Hence, it was Alison who killed her sister and tossed her in the pit. Alison slain poor pedophile Ian Thomas, and Alison snuffed the candle of sightless Jenna Cavanaugh. As a final act of vengeance, true Alison alights the house in an attempt to end the lives of our duplicitous four. Our heroines escape, but the villainess is ensnared by her own trap. It may not be the end, yet, as neither hide nor hair is found of the true, insane Alison DiLaurentis, also called A, tormentor of the Pretty Little Liars.

So, that was a fairly exciting speech. I'm not sure how I feel about a ninth book. Everything is pretty wrapped up at this point. Am I going to read the ninth book? Hells yes!(less)

So freaking amazing. I read the others books in the series and absolutely adored all of them. Some of the best books I've ever read. Once you start reading you just can't put it down. You just have to keep reading. I definitely reccomend you check these books out. *little tiny spoiler* The ending, kinda left me hanging with what it said on the last page but i was still very pleased with the ending.

In the previous book, Heartless, we learn who has killed Ali…and Jenna. Billy is a random man with seemingly no connection to anyone in Rosewood and our four Pretty Little Liars are extremely confused. But now that Billy is in jail, they are breathing easy. And oh man, after reading these eight books for the past three months, I was so ready to finally have an end to the mystery.

In the previous book, Heartless, we learn who has killed Ali…and Jenna. Billy is a random man with seemingly no connection to anyone in Rosewood and our four Pretty Little Liars are extremely confused. But now that Billy is in jail, they are breathing easy. That is, until Ali’s mom calls them and asks them to come to her house for a press conference. At the press conference, she drops a bomb. She introduces a girl, who she says is her daughter. This girl has the same heart shaped face and stunning blue eyes as Ali, but her name is Courtney, and Mrs. DiLaurentis explains that Ali and Courtney are twins and that Courtney was hidden away for years because of medical issues.

Needless to say, Hanna, Emily, Aria and Spencer are shocked. Something about Courtney seems a little off and as each girl spends more time with her, Courtney admits that she is indeed Ali. She has an elaborate story about the night when Ali disappeared and our Pretty Little Liars fall right into her pretty arms, happy to have their best friend back.

When Ali invites them to her house in the Poconos for a night of fun and reacquainting themselves with each other, our Pretty Little Liars gleefully accept. However, they don’t realize they are being led into the most dangerous trap of all.

OH. MY. GOODNESS. That is all I have to say about the finale to this amazingly spooky series. The whole series was full of twists and turns, but none more scary or shocking than in this final installment.

I’ll admit, I was a little annoyed when it was revealed that Ali had a twin. It almost seemed like a cop out. But, as I continued reading, I grew to appreciate the plot twist and when I finally finished the book, I was amazed at the web that Shepard expertly weaved leading up to the conclusion.

Is it just me or did this final book seem a lot more morbid than the others? Towards the end I was gasping out loud, covering my mouth, getting chills and jumping at every sound I heard in my house. The descriptions toward the end of the book of the fire, and what the girls found in the closet had me trembling at my very core.

While I’m not COMPLETELY satisfied with the very end of the book, I’ll take it. Shepard wrapped the book up for the most part, but of course left us with a little cliffhanger that was placed there more as food for thought, and less to torture readers into wondering what would happen next (if there ever were to be another book in the series).

One of my favorite things about this series is that at one point, I thought EVERYONE in the book was guilty, even our four main characters. Shepard does a great job pinning the blame onto different characters throughout the series to take your mind off of something else that may have happened. I had so many ideas about who killed Ali, and in the end, I never could have guessed what really happened.

I am SO excited to have finished this series. It provided a lot of entertainment and lots of thinking. I’m looking forward to the second season of the TV show on ABC Family.(less)

Well, at the end of Wanted, no one was the same age they were at the end of 7th grade, but that doesn't stop the book from achieving full-tilt, over-the-top insanity.

If you need all of your plot twists to make sense, this is not the book for you. If, on the other hand, you can enjoy a glorious, soap-operatic turn of events, then sit down, kick up your feet, and start reading. Wanted will not disappoint.

One quibble - I was extremely tired of Emily by the end of the series; her only real secret was that she was a lesbian, and since in the second half of the series she kind of isn't any more, there's no real reason for her to be hanging around. Except, perhaps, to disappoint the people who were pleased to see a lesbian character in a mainstream young adult series. But her character devolved to an almost demented inability to understand the truth of the what was going on, even after the last red herring had been disproven and the true killer and One True A was finally revealed. Like, at one point I actually said, out loud "Oh my god, Emily is SO STUPID!" Fortunately for me, there were other people in the room who knew what I was talking about, but even had they not been there, I still would have had to say it.

(Luckily, Em redeemed herself in the very last pages of the book by driving down Goshen Road; this has nothing at all to do with the plot, but my high school friends and I had a running joke about Goshen Road, which I had completely forgotten. Being reminded of that was enough to make me forgive Emily all of her foolishness, which I'm sure is a great relief to all.)

Overall, it's a happy ending. I don't know that it needed 8 books to get there, but for fans of the series - even those without a personal connection to the setting - I think it will not disappoint. Especially if they have a sense of humor.(less)

One of my top 5 favorite books I’ve ever read! Sara Shepard is an amazing author because she just keeps delivering great books one after another. The settings, dramatic dialogue and characters are unbelievable and you can’t help yourself wishing you were a part of the book. The way the author tells the story from four different perspectives makes you love the book even more because each of the perspectives are little stories. Your basically getting four thrilling stories all just in one book!
The four main characters in the book are teenage girls but are completely different from one another. Aria is the down to earth artist who is just trying to get through high school unnoticed and as fast as possible. While Hanna, aka the most popular girl in the school wants to be the center of attention every second of everyday. Then there is Emily, the shy and always innocent one, she’s the one who always tells you right from wrong. And finally Spencer, the uptight know it all who always has to be better than you. So what may these four girls have in common you may ask, well they were all chosen by Ali DiLaurentis, who at the time was the most perfect person in the world. She was pretty, popular, all the guys wanted her and just always perfect. The girls thought it was an honor to just be selected by the coolest girl in school to be her best friends. They did everything together and were inseparable, and the one thing that kept them closer than ever was there secrets they told one another. It seemed like each girl was always hiding a deep secret that they would just never mention to one another except Ali who they trusted the most. Ali knew a deep secret about each girl, ones that she could use to hold over their heads and taunt them with. But none of them really ever knew any of Ali’s secrets, she kept to herself. Once Ali goes missing and is found dead a year later the girls get attacked by a crazy stalker named A who is out for revenge to punish them for all the mean things they did. Once the whole A thing is finally put to rest they live on with their lives, and things start off normal and continue on until things start to revile themselves. They thought they could just put the past away but the nightmare isn’t over just yet. New secrets are unleashed that brings an uprising and commotion into the town. The one thing they never thought would happen; Ali’s secrets are released and some of her secrets should have gone to the grave with her.

I would of given this book ten stars if possible because it is just flat out the best thriller I have ever read. Have you ever read a book that gives you chills, keeps you on the edge of your seat, and you just can’t put it down? Well that’s how I felt when reading Wanted; to me it isn’t just any old book that was just okay, this book really gave me a change of mind on different topics in today’s world about bullying in schools and how gossiping can really hurt people, because in this book gossiping and secrets may just be the death of you.
