(Description from the back of the book)

(English translation, paperback) A rather spooky cult classic in Europe, Spellbound is the first of 47 books in The Legend of the Ice People series, originally written in Swedish by the prolific Margit Sandemo. Fairly rich in European history -- particularly Scandinavian --- this paranormal romance series spans 400 years. Despite some erotic overtones (dream scenes, emerging sexuality, etc.) and one moderately explicit sex scene, I hesitantly tagged Spellbound as YA (but it captured this adult ...more

This whole series is definitely a guilty pleasure for me... 47 volumes of a guilty pleasure. It's exactly the kind of overly sentimental, formulaic crap, with elements of fantasy thrown in and lots of sex scenes aimed at a)teenage girls and/or b) bored housewives, that I usually want to kill with fire but for some reason... I love it. Whole 47 volumes of it. I've read the whole series a couple of times, and certain individual volumes more than that. It's like eating a whole jar of peanut butter ...more

This is where it all started. With this book. Both for the author, and for me, as the reader.

This is where Margit Sandemo started writing a series of books that was unlike anything else at the time. We have to keep in mind this is early 1980's, and supernatural books with a slight erotic twist weren't all that common.

I didn't get around to read these books until more than a decade later. I was still a kid when these books came out. Later I was holding off reading these because they were a "saga"

This is one of the best books I've ever read! Love, love, love it =D It's the first book in a series with 47 books!! But I love all of them. And now it's being translated into English. I recomend everyone in the world to read atleast the first book. It has alot of ingredients: fantasy, love, secrets, passion, evil.

I highly recommend this book (and the whole series) to everyone who loves fantasy, romance, mystery, the spiritual and family sagas.

ABOUT THE BOOK:
Winter 1581: a deadly plague outbreak robs sixteen-year old peasant girl Silje of all her family. Homeless, starving and shepherding two foundling infants, she stumbles through the corpse-strewn streets of Trondheim on Norway’s northern coast.

Heading desperately for the warmth of the mass funeral pyres blazing beyond the city gates, she encounters in

Not a bad read. This was a nice combination of historical fiction and fantasy - the two blended well together. I guess this book is classified as fantasy romance; I'm not a big romance reader, and I found the overall plot to be rather predictable, as I usually find romance tales to be. However, there was enough other stuff going on besides the romance/sexual tension to hold my interest.

The ending of the book felt more like a chapter ending rather than a novel ending, but that could be because th

47 böcker i hela serien.

Well… Ingen regler uden undtagelse!

Here's a book I want to recommend to every single person I know who also likes supernatural stuff with some sexiness included. This is the first book in one of my favorite series, by Swedish/Norwegian author Margit Sandemo, finally translated into English. The series is 47 books long, and part one of a series-trilogy. I do not know yet, if they plan to translate the other two parts once they've translated all 47 books, but that's OK. They're all single-standing series, and you won't know there's ...more

Spellbound . Silje, a daughter of Arngrim, was only 17, when the epidemic in 1581 took all her relatives. Starving, cold with two orphaned kids she was going to the place away from the town, where the corpses were burned. She wanted to warm up by the fire. In that dramatic moment mysterious man took care of her - a man from Ice People clan, whose looks made her fear, but was also strangely attractive.

First volume of the series beloved in Scandinavia, Iceland, Poland, Russia and Hungary. I love

Okay. So this is really not my typ of book. I can't stand medieval stuff nor anything that goes along the "young female virgin meets older magical man" route. And the first installment in the "Sagan om Isfolket" series has both of those ingredients.

But they are my mother's favorite books (I even got my name from the series, Hanna is a slightly misunderstood but evil and ugly witch... thanks mom...) and she's been telling (nagging really) me to read the books for ages. So I gave it a shot.

I really wanted this to be good, since the author is Norwegian, but no matter how much goodwill I allow it, I cannot give it more than two stars. I think the translation must be poor, but having not read the original I cannot say for certain. I think people who like sagas will like it, but it wasn't for me.

The story is really good and the characters are all quite interesting. But I hated the writing which reminded me of my own feeble attempts of writing a fantasy novel in high school. Margit Sandemo is all about telling in stead of showing (which to me is a basic no-no) and sometimes even the point of view glitches. And why did the erotic tension - which kept me on the edge of my seat during the first part of the book - turn into a parody at the end?

I would very much like to find out what happens

If I had to list the reasons I love this series, we'd still be here in 20 years.

This book marks the opening of what's easily the longest book series I think I'll ever read. Despite being the 1st book out of 47, the story doesn't feel unfinished.

Throughout the series we follow the women of the Ice People, either born into the family or someone who'll eventually marry into it - occasionally "just" someone who ends up making a big difference in the family's life. The first book follows the barely

Plot: The plot was kind of ridiculous, and some things were resolved way too easily, but this was one of those books that was just really enjoyable because of the weird plot. I did think it was a bit annoying that Dag's mother had a few chapters in the book but had no resolution to her story.
Characters: I liked the characters for the most part. They were all generally good people, but each of them did seem to have one big flaw. I didn't love how dependent Silje felt towards Tengel, especially si

The book that started the Legend of the Ice People series -- Spellbound -- was written the year I was born - in the country of my birth, Norway, where the story takes place (though in the sixteenth century when things were way different than they were in the eighties).

The story starts out strong, before petering out. In the middle there's a minimum of conflict, too many passages of a teenage girl's sexual fantasies, with accompanying description of shame for said fantasies. In the end, does she

I use the first book to review the whole series!

The books is about the family called Icepeople. It begins in Norway at in the year 1581 and ends 1960 and it's 47 books that tells their story.
The background is simple: For hundreds of years ago, a man named Tengel the Evil of the Icepeople called up Satan with a magical brew and made a pact with the Devil: he would become immortal and rule the world and in return, at least one child in each generation will be born with magical powers and will be e

I think this series is going to become a guilty pleasure for me and I will have to track down the remaining 46 books (assuming all are available in English - I'll need to Google).

Let me start with the bad this time and then move onto the good. Technically, I shouldn't like this book. It is based on a very obvious storyline that does exactly what you'd expect with no sudden, interesting twists. Also, the writing relies a lot on POV switches from paragraph to paragraph. The first time it happened,
