I have come to adore Sandra Brown and her books!

Until recently, I'd read only a couple of her romantic suspense books, and they were fantastic, but I became distracted by other books before I could read the rest. I recently won one of her books on a goodreads giveaway, and now I'm hooked!
Why am I hooked you ask?
For me, her books are like chocolate... Stress relieving, glorious, rich, almost-sinful, pure reading pleasure. Also, Ms. Brown is a generous author; the book I won came with an extra t More...

There is a note to the reader in the front of the book from author Sandra Brown explaining that prior to writing general fiction she wrote romances. The title of “Eloquent Silence” was originally published >10 years ago under her first pen name of Rachel Ryan.
I enjoyed the book for what it is … a happily ever after - short novel of escape … what I personally refer to as a ‘good beach book’. And I absolutely loved the way the author brought the title into the last chapter. It’s a beautiful des More...

I have read many of Sandra Brown's books and this one is just as good as the others!! WOW, this author is fantastic!

This time she writes a love story, passion filled, falling in love again.....

Lauri is a young teacher for the deaf. She has a past wound from love that can't be healed, so she thinks. She takes on a job to teach a little deaf girl in her home. Her dad is the one and only good looking hunk tv star Drake. Women fall all over him and Lauri trys to do her best not to follow!

He moves La More...

ELOQUENT SILENCE
By Sandra Brown

Sandra Brown has written a beautiful love story with three beautiful characters. It is fast reading and good for escape.

Lauri is a “goody two-shoes” teacher of the deaf who becomes the private tutor of adorable Jennifer, a toddler who is hearing impaired. Jennifer is daughter of a sexy soap opera star who likes to bate Lauri. Of course Drake and Lauri fall in love, but not without complications and More...

Eloquent Silence by Sandra Brown
Laurie has agreed to teach his daughter at his home and take her out of the institution she was placed in because he couldn't do it all himself an be a soap opera actor.
She, at dinner, tells Drake about her husband and never wants to talk about it again.
Jennifer is the little girl and they try many things to get her to open up and understand although she is deaf.
She knows she can't love him because he's still in love with his ex-wife.
The girls have traveled to the More...

Really sweet story, December 6, 2008
This story was originally released in the early 80's but is surprisingly timeless.

Lauri is a teacher for the deaf that takes on the position of full time caretaker of the 3 year old daughter of a very popular soap opera star named Drake. Immediately, there's mutal attraction, but both Lauri and Drake have much baggage from previous relationships.

Lauri relocates from New York to Drakes house (estate) out west to take care of Drakes daughter while Drake stays More...

I probably would only have given this two stars, but it's partly about a little deaf girl. Which automatically intrigues me, what with my plan to minor in ASL. I do have to say, though, that while saying that the characters would sign to each other, the language itself played a very minor role in the book, especially considering that the title comes from the use of sign. I still don't know if they were using ASL or signing English, which are two very different ways of speaking with the hands. An More...

It was a nice book, but not as nice as Sandra Brown other books.

It just wasn't so emotional, spontaneous, exciting, touching like in the other books.

This is the book i like the less, but i still like it.

Drake is an actor and a single father with a 3 years old deaf girl. He hires a private teacher to teach his little girl the sign language and how to write and read. He lost his wife and don't want to love again - but his daughter teacher is nothing he had imagined. And they fall in love, but befo More...

Deaf-student teacher is hired by attractive soap-opera actor to become his daughter's private, live-in tutor. She has hard time resisting sexual offers of this non-committing hero who promised not to love again after his wife died.

Read this book the 1st time 15 yrs ago & liked it. Just re-read it & could not believe the glaring sexual harrassment behaviors at work here. Even though heroine tells hero clearly that his advances are unwelcomed b/c he hired her as her daughter's private tut More...

This book was totally predictable no matter what way the story turned, so why then did I rate it 4 stars, well it was because the 2 main characters Drake and Lauri were great fun. Even though the book is really old, first published in 1982, you couldn't tell with the exception of a scene set in the airport. Lauri is a spitfire and determined to stick to her laurels even with the handsome Drake around, which is hard as he is a soap opera actor and has all that charisma those leading men do. At th More...

I didn't actually win this book. Sandra Brown sent it along with another book I had won. Thank you.

It is definately a 1980's story. The lack of communication between H and h, the male "must have sex, no emotion" but in this case our H has a little more spine and is not a virgin (been unhappily married before and dealt with it). Their dancing around got annoying after a while. Her parents showing up and their "marriage" was an eye-roll.

Keeping in mind when it was written, it is much better than m More...

Well-written as usual for Sandra Brown. Very sexy throughout but somewhat predictable. Given that, I had 2 problems with this story: Laura repeatedly states that Blake is still in love with his deceased wife. That statement, without anything stated by Blake, gets a little repetitive and whenever the romance heats up physically, Laura lets it get fairly heated before she changes her mind. Talk about a tease! However, the bottom line is that this author is a master at written love-making!

I chose this audio book because of the plot element of the little deaf girl and her teacher and because I needed a few audio books for a long automobile trip. Otherwise...the dated attitudes, trite & repetitive dialog, blatant sexual harassment and predictable story line would have had me tossing a paperback out the window.

It was just that...something to while away the boring hours of a long drive. It passed the time. Not terrible, for a semi-bodice ripper, I guess.

I'm not overly impressed, as this is a dated romance, but sometimes that's just the thing for a great audiobook "read." I'll keep going and see how it goes, maybe I can get past the dated aspects, but it's going to have to get better for me to get over the main character wearing "stockings" with sandals, and the male lead virtually assaulting his future true love at their first meeting.

I gave up -- just couldn't do it. I like Sandra Brown, but can't do the old stuff.

I hadn't realized that this was a re-publish of a book Sandra Brown had written under a different name (Romance "name"). I little more heavy on the romance that I'm used to, compared to some of her more suspenseful novels I have enjoyed, where the focus is on that, and the romance is a little more secondary. Still, it was a sweet story and I liked the fact that it dealt with a deaf child and her teacher and the teacher's approach to teaching her to be like a normal child and not give into her du More...

Reviewing this for free as part of a First Reads giveaway.

Shortly after winning the audio version, someone gave me a copy of the book. I never actually received this one (mail mix up?) so I can't tell you how good/bad the reading was, but I wanted to say that I loved this book! Sandra Brown does her usual impeccable job in a romance novel.

I am glad this was not the first book of Sandra Brown that I read or I might never go back. Her newer mysteries are excellent, this was not. I did enjoy the information about sign language, but the plot was awful. The heroine was wimpy and the hero overbearing and full of himself. This book was a product of the time in which it was written.

This story has a male daytime soap opera star who keeps his private life very private. He's hiring a companion/tutor for his deaf daughter. The daughter and companion are going to live on the star's property in New Mexico. How the woman is hired and what happens when they go to Mexico makes for an interesting romance.

This was a great quick read with likable characters and a unique plot for a straight romance. I enjoyed the relationship between Lauri and Jennifer and learning more about how deaf children are educated. It was almost more a story of the love between a "mother" and child than a man and a woman.

I listened up to the third CD before I had to return it to the library. It was written in the 80s and included a character who was a soap opera star so it seemed kind of dated although I would have finished if I could have.

fat read, I liked it a lot. It was super romantic and really cute. The only think I didn't like was Drake's look. I don't really find moustache sexy so i always had to imagine him differently lolXD But the book was great though:D

Sandra Brown never disappoints. This is one of her older books (1982) but it really reads like it could be a book that was written recently. All of her books are like that. You can't tell that it was written 28 years ago and I think that speaks volumes for the author.

Eloquent Silence was a great story that took an interesting turn at the end. I had no idea of the little twist that I was going to read when I was towards the end of the book. Brown always keeps me on my toes which is why I love her More...
