When Detective Sergeant Duncan Hatcher is summoned to the home of Judge Cato Laird in the middle of the night to investigate a fatal shooting, he knows that discretion and kid-glove treatment are the keys to staying in the judge's good graces and keeping his job.

At first glance, the case appears open-and-shut: Elise, the judge's trophy wife, interrupted a burglary in progr

Desire, such as he’s never felt before pulsed through him

I really enjoyed this one. The last SB book I read was a bit of a letdown so I was a tad wary of starting another one by her.

"Do you play?"

Love her male characters. Duncan is a cop. Dedicated to the job. Tough, gruff, grouchy. Loved his partner too, Dee Dee – would love her to get a HEA.

"I don’t believe we get to choose who we fall in love with, do you?"

As with a lot of suspense/mystery novels, we are better off knowing less about th
My love affair continues with yet another fantastic book by Sandra Brown. I will say though for this one it took a little longer for me to lock in to the love but it happened and that is all that is important! :)

In Ricochet we are taken to beautiful Savannah, Georgia and Lady’s Island, South Carolina. SB writes so descriptively that you can close your eyes for a moment and imagine that you were there.

In what police procedural novels are concerned, Sandra Brown can do no wrong, and Ricochet is yet another winner. Definitely a page-turner, dynamic, intense, perfectly plotted, well researched, with equally believable good guys and villains, and displaying once more the astounding dialogue and the cop banter I have always loved this author for. I cannot say I really liked the sound and detached heroine, but that was probably me, I have never been too fond of the premise of a lady (view
Things get started when Detective Duncan Hatcher is called to the home of Judge Cato Laird's home where his wife, Elise had shot and killed an intruder. What follows during the investigation is lots of intrigue and subterfuge.

It's an interesting story with a slow start and an exciting second half. The ending had me in a twist and confused so that's a plus. However, I found it difficult to connect with anyone, especially Elise and Hatcher's partner, Dee Dee. He also ran hot and cold so often he

2 stars. It was not fun. I was angry at Elise for more than half the book.

Elise asks Duncan for help and says her husband wants to kill her. When Duncan asks what her husband’s motive is, she won’t tell him. Therefore, he has no reason to believe or help her. Finally at about the 3/4 mark, she tells him “why.” Then Duncan helps her and the story becomes interesting. I would cut a lot of the first 2/3 or so of the book. There was too much hypothesizing, pondering, and wondering. I did enjoy the
A very good and interesting story. I love how Ms. Brown's stories are complicated and how she resolves the complications! :)

So, why only 4 stars?

It's because the romantic part of the story seemed rushed. I couldn't feel the connection between Duncan and Elise. I couldn't understand, besides the insta-lust, why Duncan fell in love with Elisa.

They didn't have very much contact, they didn't interact enough, he hated her, didn't trust her, suspected her of murder and of being a money-grabbing cold w

Ricochet takes place in Savannah, Georgia. Detective Duncan Hatcher is investigating a murder at a prominent judge’s home. The judge’s wife Elise admits to killing an intruder but Duncan wants to investigate further. To make matters worse, Duncan is attracted to Elise.

I must admit that I really enjoyed reading Ricochet. Ricochet was a very readable book, full of mystery and suspense, sexual tension, and many plot twists.

Ela é honesta, sarcástica, mordaz, perspicaz e terra-a-terra e protagonizou vários momentos hilariantes no livro.

My first book from Sandra Brown. I loved this story. The twists and turns were engaging and the chemistry between Duncan and Elise was delicious. Elise was my favorite character. She was regarded as a brainless piece of arm candy by everyone even Duncan, but she was so much more. I enjoyed watching her quiet strength unfold and her fight to get her life back.
Full review to come, but I have to just say, Duncan.... Love that man!

Acho que me vou repetir…Adorei, adorei, adorei! Gostei da Elise, ame ...more
I've been reading mostly suspense lately, including a lot of romantic suspense, or "suspense with romantic elements". Unfortunately, too much of it has been mediocre to virtually unreadable. Then I came across a copy of Sandra Brown's "Ricochet" on our shelves at home. I hadn't read anything by Brown yet, but my wife had read "Ricochet" several years ago and enjoyed it, adding it to our "keeper" collection. I picked it up and was hooked in the first few pages. The pacing in the book is just righ ...more
This wasn’t Sandra Brown’s best, but it’s not her worst, either. The good was Brown’s ability to build suspense – she’s one of the best. But not all of the characters worked for me. Duncan was a little too ruled by his hormones, and sometimes had mood swings that didn’t make much sense. His partner, DeeDee, was essentially the stereotypical homely girl who automatically hates anyone who is pretty whether she has a reason to or not. Elise is intended to be a mystery. You’re never quite sure which ...more
Every strength has a weakness.

Duncan: I’ve fallen into instant lust …
I didn’t know that getting struck by lightning could feel so good.”

What I like most about this novel is Duncan character. He has been a man of integrity until he met Elise.

How Ms. Brown methodically shapes MCs into moral grey areas makes this book a page-turner.

Elise’s plan for vengeance is somewhat unrealistic.

It is a good RS with multi-layered characters and the mystery that hooked me from the start.
They can't all be winners, right?
I picked this up in an airport last weekend, and I believe it's the first Sandra Brown novel I've read. Which is impressive, because she's got more than 70 novels in print under a couple of different names. Ricochet is a character-driven mystery novel centering on Duncan, a detective with a rock-solid moral core and Elise, a beautiful trophy wife who may or may not have committed murder. As Duncan investigates the shooting, he is increasingly attracted to and drawn in by the lovely and mysteriou ...more

Conquistou-me logo à primeira linha, sem me dar a possibilidade de pensar duas vezes no assunto.

Looking to quench my Sandra Brown thirst, I recently listened to Ricochet after receiving a recommendation from an audio friend who knows Brown’s audiobook backlist inside-out. As I started listening, I felt that rush coming on that I identify as my Sandra Brown fever. And it remained throughout the audio.

Ricochet features detective Duncan Hatcher and his determination to put Robert Savich in prison – for good. His effort to put together a case that will finally get
Sandra Brown delivers again with this book and boy, does she ever deliver. This is by far the best of her thrillers that I've read and I've read several of hers. There is constantly something happening in this book and it pretty much starts from page 1 and keeps one enthralled until the very end. It's amazing to me that one book could have so many different plot twists.

Elise is married to a judge and shoots an "intruder" in their expensive, posh home. The main character, Duncan Hatcher, one of
I don't know why, but the whole time i was reading this book I kept thinking that Sandra Brown has some kind of patter with her mystery/thrillers: murder some people, place the blame on some faulty character who insists is innocent and that someone is framing them/trying to murder them, confuse reader about the moral code of all the characters & finally conclude the story with the most ovbious solution that one of the morally-inept characters was trying to push off on us from the beginning. ...more

Whew!!! What a wild ride Sandra Brown takes you on throughout this entire book! I was hooked! I hadn't read anything like this and was loving every bit of it! There was a lot of stuff that happened that I didn't see coming and I was on the edge of my seat waiting for the next big blow. Excellent book! This was my first by this author but definitely not my last! I am looking forward to reading more from her!

Good book. I kinda assumed the woman did it and was just selling sex to get out of it. Clever. The ending was actually brilliantly done. It's been a long time since I finished going WOW! That was awesome! I approve. But, there were still some things that were predictable, thus it had to lose one star.
I picked up this little gem at the airport. It's pretty bad, but I think I'll finish it anyway. I just finished Anna Karenina and this is like a palette cleanser before I tackle another tome.
Okay, I just finished this and it had some very steamy sex scenes. But otherwise, not really worth its paper.
This was a pretty good tale and it kept my attention well enough. It just wasn't unique. There was a character that about drove me to distraction. DeeDee was one of homicide cops in the story, the partner of Duncan. She was a homely and plain woman and was insanely jealous of Elise Laird, the suspect in the story. Her whole opinion was based on her dislike and jealously of the beautiful Elise. She WANTED her to be guilty. Her partner's attraction to Elise did not help matters at all. There were ...more
Ricochet is a moderately enjoyable thriller (rating it between 2 and 3). The plot's just interesting enough to keep on reading. There’s a mystery in this novel about the major female character, Elise Laird, and about whether her motives are good or not. I found that aspect of the mystery intriguing, but I thought the author took too long in developing it. In my opinion there are too many long passages in the middle of this book where the police characters speculate about who did what, and why. O ...more
I won this book as part of Goodreads giveaways and first reads.

I had a rather nice, long, detailed review written up and then the window crashed and I lost it. Well, damn. So I'm going to try and piece it together again.

Having previously read Breakfast in Bed by Sandra Brown, I was hoping that this book was an improvement on her previous literary works. It is- Brown has grown as an author, and her plots are now better detailed and her characters less contrived. There are some of her trademarks-

Most homicide detectives appreciate a no-brainer case, the kind where they are called in, it's easy to see who was killed and why, and things just sort themselves out from there. The killing at the home of Judge Cato Laird's home seems to fit into this description at first; the judge's wife, Elise, interrupted a burglar and shot him in self defense. But when Detective Duncan Hatcher starts looking into the killing in more detail, he begins to wonder. The dead man was a complete loser
