Calico Canyon by Mary Connealy
I receive quite a few Review Copies of books I don't request. Because they are not books I choose to fit my personal tastes, few really appeal to me.
Calico Canyon by Mary Connealy is one that did.
Schoolmarm Grace Calhoun may seem like just another tightwad teacher at first, but there is so much more to her. Adopted by an abusive father, she has overcome many trials and discovered how brave she can be.
She always wanted to be a teacher, but now th...more

When I got the background on this book, I was a little apprehensive about reading it since I knew that it was about Miss Grace Calhoun. Upon reading Petticoat Ranch Miss Calhoun was present, but only faintly. She was definitely not my favorite character, especially in comparison to the wonders of Sophie and her girls. This is the sequel to Petticoat Ranch, and it is also a good read; this time, about boys, five of them -- a set of twins and a set of triplets, and their widowed father. There is also a peek at the family of the first novel and their little girly girls who can take care of themselves. And you will notice that these unruly boys were the nemesis of the school teacher in the first book, which leads you into this story.

I really liked this book. There were many times that I laughed out loud as I read it. Mary Connealy is a new writer to me. I really liked her writing style. I will definitely be reading her other books.

I think I'd have enjoyed this book more if I'd read the first book in the series before this one ("Petticoat Ranch").
Still a good story, though!
