All the previous books hinted to this book and the Scotland Scourge. Venetia Campbell was one of Mrs. Harris' students and after quite a few seasons her father is fed up. She makes a deal with her father to let her go to Scotland for a Peer Ball and that she promises to accept a proposal with in the year. Her father agrees, under the impression that the Scourge is dead. Her father knows more about the Scourge then he leads on. Through out the book, Sir Lachlan Ross teaches Venetia about wha...more
I have been infatuated with Scotland, its history, and the fiction about it since I was a teenager. In my more mystical moments I swear it is a past life thing. This might explain why I took to Scottish Heavy Athletics for a few years (yes I actually attempted to toss a telephone pole ... hmm I mean a caber) and why my children now do Scottish Highland Dance. There is a strength and resilience in this country that most peoples don't need ... off the top of my head only Poland has had as many ...more

Everyone remember how I said that some girls in Never Seduce a Scoundrel would be popping up again? Here's another lady! And to make things even more interesting you learn about the Heiress for Book 5, Don't Bargain With the Devil, in this book as well! Oh and let's not forget that Lachlan was last seen in Never Seduce a Scoundrel as the Scottish Scourge that waylaid Amelia and Lucas four years earlier!

I'm usually not a fan of kidnapping-turned-Stockholm Syndrome style books. Nor am I typically a fan of the Scottish-themed books, as they largely start off well-meaning but at some point dissolve into near-offensive caricatures. But I gave this one a try because I wanted to make it through the School for Heiresses series. I'm glad I did, because I wasn't disappointed.

Cute Scottish historical romance with likable leads. Not the usual time period for Scottish historicals, it was nice to see Scotland a few generations after Culloden. The romance was sweet, I like how the hero never treated the heroine badly even when he was very angry with her father. Check this out if you like Scottish historical romance!

Solid 5 star book!!
What is it about this book that deserves a 5 star rating from me? Let me tell you...
First of all you have the hero Sir Lachlan Ross, a Scottish Laird who is also secretly the Scottish Scourge, a thief and blackguard! He is out to get justice for the wrong that was done to his clan and get the money returned that is owed his family. The person who owes him this- Quentin Campbell, the Earl of Duncannon, also known as the former friend and neighbor of Lachlan'...more

Beware a Scot's Revenge is cleanly plotted, but it has a lot of problems, as well. The one that struck me hardest was the dialog, which was stilted at best and silly at worst.
Dialog anachronisms were plentiful. In 1822 a young woman in London's ton would be unlikely to yell oh, fudge when frustrated. The main character's language is all over the place; he's a highlander, but he has features of Lowland Scots and Irish in his speech. Quite confusing, really.

Ahh, Scottish men. It was great reading about Sir Lachlan Ross with his Scottish brogue, a little wildness and a kilt all wrapped up into one favorite hero. I enjoyed the banter and slow sizzle between Venetia and Lachlin. This book had a kidnapping (between the hero and heroine) with an interesting story line that developed throughout the book.
Don't normally like the people illustrated on the fronts of the historical romance books, but both male and female were hot on inside cover,...more

This is definitely the best Sabrina Jeffries book I've ever read.
Those who are familiar with her know her books are on the light, fluffy side, so you have to keep that in mind before you pick this up.
I LOVE when villians in previous books become the hero, so of course I was excited that this one was to be about the Scottish Scourge, who had previously tried to rob Amelia and Lucas, the main couple from the first book.

I read this book like... yesterday, so I don't remember exactly what it's about (character's names and such), but it was really good. No, but seriously, their names were.... hers started with a V and his name was Scottish. Let me go grab the book and jog my memory.
Venetia and Lachlan. Okay. So Lachlan (laird in 1822ish Scotland (Highlands)) is pissed off at Venetia's dad (who owns the land next door to his) because he borrowed like 40,000 lbs (*dies laughing* lbs??????!?!??!?!? ...more

I'm changing my previous review from 4 stars to 5! And this is my new favorite of the series! First, let me start by saying, yes, these are light-hearted historical romances that Ms. Jeffries writes, but it doesn't make them any less worthy or enjoyable. In fact, I'd argue with anyone who says writing these are easier than the darker more angsty stuff. Just because they are easy to read and maybe not as serious as others would like doesn't mean it's not well done. The story still has to flo...more
Jeffries latest in her School for Heiresses series is simply a nice read overall. If you have a weakness for Scottish heroes, than Lachlan is the man for you. Our hero is truly a nice guy who wants what is right for his clan and his mother. He also has a bit of a crush for his childhood English lady, Venetia. (I keep thinking of Venetian blinds whenever I read her name!) Venetia is that typical spunky yet spirited heroine but she and Lachlan have an ongoing contest of wills that will have you ch...more
The start of the book did not draw me in and I almost decided to stop reading (since book#1 totally turned me off) but I was looking for another quick cheap read to get myself sleepy. But as the story unfolded, I got caught up in the characters and the exchanged dialogues in the carriage. Venetia was a pretty solid & strong character (for a romance). Lachlan was rough around the edges but a softie inside as well. So it turned out to be a pretty cute read!
Lachlan is going for revenge and money towards an old friend of his parents, who's also an earl and an old neighbor of his childhood home. Venetia happens to be the daughter of the revengee, and a pawn in his plan. He kidnaps her to get the earl to come to Scotland and pay back the money owed to Lachlan's family and get his daughter freed. Venetia and Lachlan fall in love, family secrets are revealed, an unexpected pairing leads to a wedding, and a neglected home gets back on it's feet. Great se...more
Had never read any of the series before, but I quite liked Jeffries tone and characterization. I wanted to knock the hero's head about a bit though for being so thick, but really liked how Venetia revealed herself to be so content with life in the Highlands without society - it was done without patronizing or diminishing the other characters, and was a good fit. I'll be interested to see what the other books in the series are like now.
Oh my! My very first Sabrina Jeffries read.. the title read Scot..yada and I couldna resist! Read a few chapters and ..gasp! had to hurriedly set it aside and hunt for some brown paper to cover the book..not exactly a bodice-ripper historical but more a skirt-upper, kilt-caught-in-a-breeze contemporary-ish romance with a backdrop of Scotland history..PG-23 rating *wink* (20 and over with peer guidance) kilty pleasure indeed! try it:)
This one started out better than the other 2 in the series but then got too complicated. Why is there Always another complication?!!
I'm a bit disappointed in this series; I kept expecting to see something taking place at the school. Plus Mrs. Harris and Michael's letters that have nothing to do with the story at hand (usually) get a bit irritating. I expect to see their story sooner or later.

I usually do not read Romance and this book reminded me why. It really is not my cup of tea. The story is your typical "boy-kidnaps-girl-then-girl-falls-for-kidnapper" story. Jeffries also tried to make it into some grand Scottish novel, but fell short. Granted, I have not read a whole lot of historical romances ( or regular romances) but the language used was too modern. Every now and then some typical Scottish slang was used, but on the whole, it was unbelievable. The characters were...more
This is a fun, exhilarating book! A good read when you need to get away and out of your own troubled mind! Love the characters and storyline. An easy fun read that keeps you excited and not boring. I think i will read this book again, and the rest of the series. Its pretty fair to say that any Jeffries book is a safe choice, so read away and enjoy!
I do enjoy a good kidnapping love story. Nothing like Stockholm Syndrome as the basis of true love. Heehee. Plus, I do love a Scottish brogue!
I must say, this series is getting more enjoyable because I've read the later ones and it is fun to see the setups and appreciate the inside jokes all the more.

I am so loving this series!!
I loved reading about Lachlan and Venetia, though I figured they'd end up together just from the first novel of the series. I'm excited to see what happens with Mrs. Harris and "Cousin" Michael :)
My favorite part of the novels lately has been the author's notes. She gives the reader a great insight into what she was thinking as she wrote the books, and I immensely enjoy it!

It took me a while to get into this book, but I am not sure why. The prologue bored me, but I enjoyed everything else from chapter one on. The voice is fresh and I liked the regency time period set in the highlands. I would pass this along to a friend and seek out another Sabrina Jeffries book.
One of Sabrina Jeffriesā trademarks is strong heroines, and she doesnāt disappoint here. Venetia is one of the best yet, and she goes blow for blow with the roguish Scottish hero. This was a fun adventure with a touching love story. Jeffries just keeps getting better!
My favorite in this series, by far. Venetia and Lachlan were great characters. Instead of the typical story loaded with miscommunication, jerky moves, fear of the characters expressing their feeling...they both quickly started admitting the attraction. It was refreshing! And I lied Venetia's characters - not your typical blushing virgin. My only gripe would be that I feel like Jeffries's books always have about 50 pages too many...meaning the endings, though interesting, are a bit too dragg...more
I love Sabrina Jefferies. She's absolutely amazing and it shows in this book. THe plot is the simple guy kidnaps girl for revenge on her family. But she makes it so much more than that. You truly feel the characters and care for them. You see how their relationship develops and you can't help but cheer them on.
She's quickly become one of my all time fav authors.

The author refered to the heroin's sex as her honey pot. At that point each time the male character was mentioned, I had that vision of Winny the Pooh with his furry legs and butt sticking out of a pot of honey. Creepy. Couldn't finish the book....
A cheerfully, rowdy execution of a historical romance. Jeffries did a nice job of adhering to the mores and lifestyle of the day while creating characters with whom one could identify. Very enjoyable.

If having a colorful life turns you into a novelist, then I had no choice but to become a writer. My whole life changed when my parents decided to be missionaries to Thailand (when I was seven). Before I was eighteen, I'd eaten chicken heads and jellyfish, been chased by a baby elephant, seen countless cobras and pythons, had the entire series of rabies shots (yes, the ones in the stomach with tho...more
