This book is all about football and faith. I don't know a thing about football and my faith is questionable so I would not have chosen this book to read. However, it was selected by my book club so I had to give it a shot.

I wanted to give the book 2 stars because the first 100 pages were very boring, but overall, the book has some valuable lessons about faith, family and building a team, so I'm giving it 3 stars.

If you love football, you might find it interesting.

The Super Bowl is every football coach’s dream but it shouldn’t be their top priority. Tony Dungy is a coach that depicts football as his job but not his life. The most meaningful message he refers to was Matthew 16:26, in which Jesus asks, “And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your soul?” There is no meaning to life if you lose sight of what is really important: our family, values, principles, and the God who loves us. I highly recommend this book to anyone w...more

After reading this book, I have learned that Tony Dungy is an extra ordinary man. Tony Dungy was very motivated and determined and that was why he made a great coach. The portion of this book that captivated my attention the most was the way Tony Dungy taught the game of football. Tony Dungy wrote this book to share his thought of coaching and his perspective on life. The emotion in the book was mostly happy for all the success of the coach Tony Dungy. There were sad parts in the book, when ...more

Spoiler: Dungy finally wins a Superbowl as a coach with the Indianapolis Colts.

I had heard good things about this book especially from the perspective of being a Christian. Because I have a certain disdain for the Indianapolis Colts that I can't quite explain, I was reluctant to pick it up and give it a try. I didn't want to read a book by the guy who had beaten the Patriots in an emotionally fought AFC Championship game.

I finally picked it up at Walmart when I was look...more

I have to be honest; I choose this book for two reasons. One, it was on sale, and two, because I love football. So I guess I can say without any reservation that I honestly got a bargain. The book was less about football, there are many football stories, but more about being a man who talks the talk and walks the walk. Many may think that being an NFL head coach is a great job, and I am sure it is, but Tony allows everyone who reads this book to understand that the life is not without challen...more

Excellent book. Presents a strong emphasis on education and Christian principles such as living life without complaining (Philippians 2:14). Dungy is open and honest about so many details of his youth as well as his adult life. Discipline is a key theme as Dungy was constantly asked by his parents "How is your complaining going to help the situation?". Forgiveness is also a key theme as Dungy was called out by one of his kids to forgive Mike Vanderjagt for publicly ridiculing him. The ...more

Always having been a football fan, I very much enjoyed this glimpse into the life of a terrific person, a notable Christian, and an expert in his field. Great inspiration and a peek behind the scenes of the NFL, as faced by a Christian.

Though it started off a bit slow, I was inspired by Tony Dungy's life as described in the book. It has been trendy by some sports figures to proclaim their faith, but sadly, their actions all too often do not seem to match their words. Before I read this book, I knew Tony was well respected for his strong Faith and the book reinforced how his Faith is the number one priority in his life. He is a good role model in the fact that he is focused on affecting the people around him as opposed to the...more

I have mixed feelings about this book. I liked the amusing anecdotes that bridge the gap between the successful coach and the average man, like the story about his glasses and his wife's dislike of cold weather. I thought it was interesting to revisit previous NFL seasons and hear the coach's perspective outside of the press conference format. I also liked how he used his accomplishments to set the background of his narrative rather than as a basis for arrogance. He clearly recognizes his own fa...more

The book is somewhat interesting to get some insight into the NFL, different coaching styles and yes, getting to know a few funny anecdotes about the Dungy family.

But there isn't enough detail or specific information to really understand how he has accomplished all that he has. It's all very passive sounding. Because he attributes so much of the good in his life to his faith it would almost lead one to believe that he has had almost nothing to do with his own successes. It's almos...more

This book was one of the best books I have ever read in my 14 years of living. This book was very inspiring and deserves its spot on the bestseller list. This book tells the story of Tony Dungy, the coach of the Super Bowl champion Indianapolis Colts. It starts of when he is a kid living in Jackson, Michigan. He plays football and basketball, basketball being his favorite, and was a starter at his high school. Of course, he was also the starting quarterback on varsity his junior ansd senoir year...more

I saw this book available for sale everywhere and checked it out online. It had 5 stars by 80 people on amazon. 75 people gave it 5 stars and the remaining five gave it four stars. Some of the comments were also inspiring, with one person saying that they had cried twice during the book! My expectation was set really high from the beginning.

The book was good, but I'd probably give it 3.5 stars. Its a detailed account of his life and rise to become the first african american coa...more

What a book!! I have to admit that I really picked this book up because I love football, but it is more than just football. This is about being a who lives his life the right way. He lets us understand that while there is glitz and glamour to being an NFL head coach, they are just normal people and have challenges that they have to overcome as well. After reading this book, I have so much more respect for Tony than I did before I read it. And I'm glad he won a Super Bowl.

This book was interesting as a Colts fan and I learned a lot about him, but between the ghost writing and the religious overtones of his life's themes, I didn't enjoy it quite as much as I hoped. I do like the overarching moral of the book though--the quiet strength he employs on and off the football field. The stories about meeting his wife were good though and the inside look at the life of an NFL coach was good, but Jon Gruden's book covers that better.

I enjoyed this book. Again, sports biographies are really my favorite form of book.

I like how Tony Dungy told his story and weaved spiritual and leadership truths amidst his story. As a huge University of Missouri Football fan, I was suprised to see him give such great accolades to Woody Widenhofer. When Woody was the coach at Mizzou he didn't have a lot of success. That Dungy thought so much of him is impressive to me.

Wow... this book isn't about football, its about Christianity. Tony Dungy is a man that should be looked up to after reading this book.

The only part I'd watch out for is that he does discuss the suicide of his teenage son. It was a part that was very difficult for me to read through. Regardless, its a great book for any sports fan Christian, or Christian in general...

I'm more than willing to lend out my copy.

Tony Dungy tells the story of his life, and what a great life he has had! Much of his life revolves around his faith in God his desire to make choices consistent with his faith. Before I picked up this book, I knew very little about Tony. Now I have a great admiration for this man who is a breath of fresh of air, standing head and shoulders above so many other sports figures. This book is a winner--and so is Tony!

If I didn't love the Colts, I don't know that I would have picked up this book. But, I did like it. And, being a football fan, I even understood most of the football talk- which took up a great deal of the book.

I respected Dungy before reading this book but have even more respect for him now. He obviously stands behind what he believes in, even when it's tough or not the popular choice.
