Rose Kelly (2008, Barbour) by Janet Spaeth is a standalone Christian historical romance set in Jubilee, Dakota Territory in 1879. This book is being re-released by Barbour as a bonus story along with The Lilac Year, which is also by Ms. Spaeth. I received an ARC copy of the re-release from NetGalley and Barbour in exchange for an honest review. I don’t know whether my 2016 copy has been modified from the 2008 Barbour release of Rose Kelly

Girl reporter meets homesteader with mysterious past and sparks fly as she does her best to uncover his secrets and falls in love. OK, maybe that's a really quick summation for a story that was fun and entertaining to read, but it gives you the idea. This was one of those quick, can't put it down romances which is just right sometimes. Well worth reading. :)

Review by Sheridan T.

A female news reporter in 1879 tries to get information from a man with a secret past.

I liked the determination and the forgiveness parts.

In first grade, Janet Spaeth was asked to write a summary of a story about a family making maple syrup. She wrote all during class, through morning recess, lunch, and afternoon recess, and asked to stay after school. When the teacher pointed out that a summary was supposed to be shorter than the original story, Janet explained that she didn’t feel the readers knew the characters well enough, so ...more
