With "Elphame's Choice" P.C. Cast continues in the same vein as her breakout novel, "Goddess by Mistake." Elphame, the half-human, half-centaur daughter of Etain, beloved of Epona, is very unhappy. As a human/centaur hybrid, Elphame is human from the waist up but her two legs resemble those of a centaur, ending with hoofs. Because she was so obviously marked by the Goddess, all who see her worship her. While she is revered and worshipped, outside of her own family she is not

Despite already knowing what was going to happen in this book, i still liked it well enough. Usually, i read books in order but i made the mistake of reading the second book of the Partholon series before reading the first one. Although i knew the ending of this book, i enjoyed reading it nevertheless. I found that i liked the first book a little better than the second. When i had read "Brighid's quest", i didn't know what was happening at all and it took a while longer to get the gist

I was a little surprised at first to see that "Harlequin Teen" published this book. The existence of a teen division of the popular romance novel company is news to me, and since Harlequin is traditionally associated with steamy romances, I wondered how the teen division fit in. I figured that these novels would focus on the current popularity of teen paranormal romance, but found that I was a little off the mark on that assumption.

I like it. It's not an overly complex book, and there are a few things that I was confused on, but it's a pretty good story. I've already read the second book (Brighid's Quest), which I liked better, but this isn't too bad. I'm a little bothered by my inability to imagine Elphame, though. She's half human, half centaur, and I'm having trouble imagining it. Other than that, I like the draw from Celtic mythology (Cuchulainn is the name of her brother, who is named after a hero) and the fact that

There is sooo much I want to say about this book I don't even know where to begin. First off, I LOVED the Parthenon series and P.C. Cast is quickly becoming my favorite author of all time. I loved her Goddess Summoning series as well, anyway...This book fits in perfectly with the Parthenon series, it is actually set a hundred and some years after Rhiannon. The characters in this book are so vivid and so devoted to their faith it almost makes me jealous, and wish that I could also have that kind

One word for this book. Disgusting.
First of all, I picked this book because of its lovely cover and the author P.C. Cast. When I got to chapter one and found out that Elphame was a centaur, I was immediately turned off. Seriously-a part human and centaur hybrid? Sorry, not my taste.
And what about the very graphic sex scenes? Uh, NO, that shouldn't be in the teens section. I think that the two Casts are just really horny and writes explicit scenes between a winged man (WTF?) and a More...

I absolutely fell in love with all the characters in this book!
Which is probably why I can’t get the stinkin story line out of my head. I keep thinking so and so should have done this, or that was a bad choice. That, and just plain mourning. Ugh!
Seriously, I need to move on…

I love P.C. Cast, so I was very excited to read this book. I dove into it as soon as I got a chance (which was about two days after I received it). I wasn’t immediately entranced, but the book did improve as the story unfolded. I would say this was almost like a roller coaster. I wasn’t immediately thrilled, then there were some really good parts, then it dipped to being almost boring, but it ended strong with a sense that I should continue the series. Here’s a bit about the book:

Elphame has all but given up on fitting in. As most visibly half human, half centaur, she certainly does not look like anyone else in Partholon. But her strong connection to the goddess Epona ensures that she will always be revered, worshipped, and maybe even somewhat feared. Elphame realizes that she needs to strike out on her own, and so she travels to the other side of the country to begin a new project: restoring MacCallan Castle. But rebuilding these haunted ruins turns out to be completely

I don't know why I even picked this up after not liking Divine By Mistake so much! I give myself 1 star for smart making choices!
Anyway, this book sounded way more interesting than book one (I love mythology and fantasy) so I picked it up (hunted down a used copy on amazon for $$$ is more like it...) and gave it a shot.
In contrast to the first Partholon book which tried to have Too Much Fun, this book was No Fun At All. Elphame is just the dullest character. I cannot reme More...

Elphame's Choice is book one of the Partholon Series. The plot of theis book is pretty good. Elphame's destiny involves restoring her ancestral home and becoming the macallan. Part of her destiny involves fulfilling a prophecy that will destroy the madness of the hybrid Fomorians, so that they can come to Partholon where there human ancestors are from. A part of the plot of this story that I didn't like was Brenna the healer who was betrothed to Cu Chulainn, Elphames brother, was killed by the h

First, I think this book is badly categorized. It feels like an adult book that has been modified ever so slightly to be sold in the teen section. The characters are supposed to be kind of young but they all have the responsibilities and personalities of adults... I'm not sure how well teenagers will really be able to relate to them. And even though they removed the stronger terms, there is still a couple sex scenes that seem a little grown up. In most books aimed at this age group, if the

sometimes i wish that there were negatives, or at least 'no' stars available.
this book was in the teen section of the library on their 'new' shelf. I was therefore, very surprised and unhappy that this book contained explicit sex (at least in my opinion). How could this be teen? recommended to children 14+?????
it made me feel sick. i decided that i must launch a complaint to the library. the librarian understood and helped me get the form. Did you know that you have More...

Elphame, a satyr goddess born to a human mother and centaur father, has never felt a part of life. She has been worshipped and taken care of to the point no one feels comfortable enough with her to be free to speak to her like a friend. She has always been on a pedestal in the eyes of the people in Partholon.

It took a hundred pages for me to get even a little interested in this story. If I hadn't meant to review it, I would have put it away. I was uninterested in the protagonist and found the world-building to be nebulous for the most part. Very easy book to put down. I rearranged a junk drawer and an over-flowing cupboard while reading this book. Not a good sign.
I'd never read PC Cast, but I was interested in picking something of hers up More...

Elphame is The Chosen One. She is a descendant of Epona, The Warrior Goddess of the Horse and Benefactress of the Fruits of the Harvest. Elphame is meant for great things. She just doesn’t know it yet but she will soon. The people of Partholon depend on her.
To be honest, this book sounded better than it was. I have never read PC Cast before but wanted to try her out. I figured now was a good time, since she was starting a new series. I can’t remember what this book really is about a More...

I find the more books that I read in this series the more that I love the world that it is set in. This time around we are about 125 years after the first book, live has been good in the Partholon, the war was over, things have settled back to normal. Elphame is the daughter of the current Beloved, and other than her normal specialness she has been touched by the Goddess herself in her form, Elphame, the daughter of a human and centaur is human from the waist up, but the waist down has 2 legs

This is the fourth book in the series of Partholon novels, yet as it’s set 100 plus years after the first book it can be read on its own. I had loved the other three books so far and found it interesting how this story took a different approach with its characters and plot. The main focus is based on Elphame yet there is other focus on the other characters that I felt very drawn to just as much as Elphame. I found the story very enjoyable once it past the point of introducing all the new element

Elphame’s Choice is the fourth book in the Goddess of Partholon series by P.C. Cast. It takes place about 125 years after the events that happened in the first three books. It’s about Elphame who is Shannon’s great granddaughter and she’s also the daughter of Etain, the current Goddess Incarnate of Epona. She’s been touched by the goddess in a special way in that she’s part human, part centaur. All her life Elphame has been worshipped and revered but all she really wants to be like everyone else

I thought that this was a pretty good book. My friend introduced me to P.C Cast when she lent me her copies of the House of Night series and then I continued to read P.C Cast books. I just finished Elphame's Choice today and I liked it. Centaurs have always been one of my favorite fantasy creatures and I like that P.C Cast includes them in her writing. Some people have issues with the fact that P.C Cast chooses to write explicit sex scenes in her books, but how is that any different than what is

I really enjoyed this book. It was sent to me in a book club and I cancelled my membership. This is a book in the middle of a series and the ending felt just a little forced, but it was an enjoyable read for me. Elphame didn't fall to the typical "woman" trope of so many books. She had uncertainty and moments of weakness, but she was a strong woman who did what was right. The only thing that really bothered me was the literal Hand of God, so to speak, that is through the book. Epona ha

For the most part, my opinion on this book is that it's bad. I just wasn't engrossed enough to get farther than halfway. The main character is insufferably perfect and boring. Brenna is the only character I felt like I cared about. Like other reviewers have said, somehow P.C. Cast managed to make her SETTING a Mary Sue. I never understood whether she was trying to evoke Scottish culture, Viking culture, or Ancient Greek. It felt like this book was taking itself so seriously and never took a step

When I started this book I was a little nervous of what I would think, Im not usually a fan of the books that are a whole new world in themselves, but this one was fantastic. I will for sure be reading the other books in the series. Elphame is a part human, part cantar girl who since birth was obviously marked by the goddess Empona. All her life she has felt estrange and worshiped by her people, and because of that all alone in the world. This changes when she leaves home to rebuild the castl
