Recommends it for: Holocaust
The most accessible book on the Holocaust I've read. While I can't imagine introducing it to the 2-4 graders who would seem to be the audience for this book, it could be used with slightly older kids as a starting point. When Frannie finds a grey striped shirt mixed in with treasures in her grandparents' trunk, she starts to unravel their past, and learns about the horrors they have survived. It's a quiet book and explains things in an easy to understand way. I really didn't like the illustrator ...more
