Demeter has had it with her daughter’s, Persephone the Goddess of Spring, carefree, no worry attitude. So she makes a deal with Lina, an owner of a bakery that is slowly going out of business, in exchange for saving Lina’s bakery. Lina will have to switch bodies with Persephone to give her a taste of the real world and real problems, while Lina visits Hades in Persephone’s body, where she falls in love.

Cast does a wonderful job in weaving in modernism and the ancient world together to

Ok, so compared to the more literary works on here the five stars is a little generous, but it was a fun, moving and surprisingly deep read.
Lina owns a failing bakery, summons the goddess Demeter to help who swaps her soul into Persephone's body to stop her daughter having to go to the Underworld and be with Hades. Persephone will 'be' Lina in the human world and save the bakery while Lina makes nice with Hades for 6 months. Of course Hades and Lina fall in love, only Lina has promised not More...

This was very good book, it was more than I expected. If you like Greek mythology, or gods and goddesses than you might like this book.
It was very well written and the characters were well developed. I loved the writers description of Underworld and Hades. He is interesting character, handsome, loner, you could say grumpy, but kind. Something you do not expect from the lord of the Underworld.
Lina's character was likable and fun.
Even though myth of Hades and Persephone is More...

For many of us Romance allows us the ability to dream and hope. A lot of people scoff at the notion that romance leads to unrealistic expectations on love (thank you He’s Just Not That In to You). But for me, I find that it offers a break from the sometimes bleak existence of day to day life. We are told so often to ‘get our head out of the clouds’, to make fun of the dreamers and those ghastly ‘glass half-full people’. But in actuality, what is so wrong with wishes and hope? To have silly littl More...

This is an amazing romance between two people that could never happen. Lina owns a small bakery in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and when she finds out she owes a lot of money to the IRS, she has to find out a way to come up with that money. She buys some cookbooks from her local bookstore and begins thinking up more choices for her menu. Without knowing, she calls upon the Goddess Demeter for help. Demeter has a proposition of her own and decides that Lina and Persephone, her daughter, will trade places for More...

Summary: To save her failing bakery, Lina trades souls with Persephone, the Goddess of Spring--and starts falling for hunky Hades. -- JCPL catalog

This is the second of the Smart Bitches, Trashy Books Blog A+ list that I have read and it definitely deserved the high praise. It was a very different sort of romance, but still fit the romance category. Lina is a successful restaurant owner from Tulsa, OK in her mid-forties. She is in a bit of a bad spot because her accountant made severa More...

Eh.....um.....^-^'. I've never read a "romance" novel before, and quite frankly, I wasn't sure what I was getting into. I guess anything with abs on the cover should be fair warning. My interest was perked over the mythological theme though, which was actually quite thorough and involved many characters I've wondered about. We get to know more personally here, and there were surprises. The visuals are lovely~ she definitely likes to describe every subtle change in posture, color, and v More...

Once in a while, a girl needs a good romance with little else to interfere in the story. Initially I thought I was reading a book from the series of "Goddess by Mistake" and I anticipated more danger and a darker tone to the underworld. The comfortable beautiful underworld that Cast created in this book was still fascinating, and it made me reread the original Greek stories about the gods and goddesses.

The reason I didn't give it 5 stars: The book felt a bit rushed in More...

Childish romance. Not my taste at all. I mistakenly read this thinking it would be about goddesses which it was, in a lighthearted way, but far too immature and ridiculous for me. I think the author has written a crappy romance and just used the setting of Persephone and Hades as a backdrop for the tale.

I have to say, this is one of the best books in this series, because unlike the others, there are many characters besides the main character who are worth admiring like Eurydice and Iapis for their loyalty. Besides, I find that the style of writing is less snobish, because this is a serious problem in many of the books in this series. In Goddess of Love, for example, Venus knows that the fireman doesn't mean what he said. He is just shocked. Hell! His girlfriend just showed him that she is an anc More...

This book downright offended me. Once again we have the same cut-and-dry story about a middle age midlife crisis woman who has an awesome grandma and parents that never really get mentioned because the grandma is Just So Awesome, who lives in Oklahoma, yadda yadda.

This woman, Lina, is the only protagonist in a book by Ms. Cast that I have read that doesn't have a Cherokee awesome grandma, so I guess I should take what I can get.

But anyway, boo-hoo, she picked an accountan More...

First in the Goddess Summoning series, this is the story of Lina, a 43-year old bakery owner from Tulsa, Oklahoma. As a result of a deal with Demeter, Goddess of the Harvest, she swops places with Persephone, Goddess of Spring and travels to the realm of Hades for 6 months.
This is one of the better series of paranormal romances and anyone who has an interest in Greek mythology will recognise many of the characters. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The descriptions of the Underworld are imag More...

However, if you enjoy Greek mythology and the writing of PC Cast, you'll find a special draw to these books. I loved the mingling of old myth and modern love and MAN! can she write some great men (pun intended!) :) This one centers around the story of Persephone and Hades with the sub-plot of the Orpheus and Eurydice mixed in. In typical Cast fashion, a modern day (Tulsa) woman is swapped with Persephone and the story ensues. Not that th More...

I've never been interested in reading PC Cast books before, but now I've changed my mind. This book changed it. It has such a nice blend of romance and fantasy all rolled into one that you can't stop reading and finding out what happens next.

And I won't probably look at Hades the same way again after reading this book.

He'll forever be the Sexy, Sexy Batman, like what Lina would say.

I love how this book showed Hades not just as a God, but someone who feels, so More...

This is the second book in Cast's Goddess series. When I started this book my main worry was that it was going to take a lot of my favorite Greek myths and turn them into big piles of fluffy mush. This, thankfully, didn't happen. I was also impressed with how much detail of the Underworld was given. Besides descriptions of how the place looked, there was also background given on a lot of the scenery without it feeling intrusive.

As for the two main characters, Lina’s not the young inexp More...

Goddess of the Spring tells the story of a Goddess, a Baker and soul mates. I think the summary pretty much says it all, so I'll leave it at that.

I enjoyed this story much more than I thought I would, having picked it solely because "Spring" was in the title. Yes, it was for a challenge. :) But, in the end, I found the mythology of the story interesting and the romance touching. I, for one, definitely believe in soul mates, as I have been with mine for over 20 yrs! More...

It was so cute. I loved her comparison of Hades to Batman. It put a smile on my face. (If only Val Kilmer could return to his days as Batman!) I like how she's taking common myths and making them into something new.
The only problem I currently have with this series is that her main female character has a tendency to spend a lot of time talking to herself in the first 2-4 chapters. This one wasn't as bad as the previous one where the girl talked to her TV and her phone, but it makes it har More...

I loved this retelling of the story of Persephone. There were some elements that were familiar from her other books (a woman from our world is called to a world where the myths are true to some extent and becomes divine), but the story was so fresh and different than her Divine By Mistake series that I really enjoyed it. I love seeing characters I already know and love from a different perspective, as long as it's true to the original character, so this was a really fun book. Anyone who loves More...

This is the second book in the Summoning Series. This was about a woman who was in her mid-40s and she was struggling with her business. She was not entirely happy with her life. Lina ended up finding a very unique cookbook and thought it was going to be exactly what her business needed.

It turned out to be a complete makeover on her life. She was instantly transported into the underworld and switched places with Persephone (goddess of the spring). Persephone and Lina fell in love wi More...

I've been reading the Goddess Summoning series for a couple of weeks and this is my third go (previously just read Goddess of Legend and Goddess of the Rose). Loving the first book in this series, I could not wait to read this one. And truly enjoyed it! In this story, Cast recreates the story of Hades (Lord of the Underworld) and Persephone (Goddess of Spring) with a little twist- a modern day middle aged woman who switches "places" with the young goddess. As with the first book, I loved the story, its characters, and ofcourse the romance and fantasy! I must add that I was really pleased that Cast kept to her strong heroine(s); and retain More...

When I started to read this book I was unsure of how the author would retell the story of Persephone and Hades. Personally their story has always fascinated me, and I always felt bad that he was cast as the villain. But Cast really does a fine job of retelling this story. Here Hades is the hero, keeper of the Underworld, but just a person who is misunderstood. And Persephone turns out is not who she really seems to be. I could not put this book down and I expect other people who read this book w More...

P.C. Cast takes figures from ancient myths and blends them into stories with modern-day characters. This tale involves Lina ("Carolina")--a 43 yr old bakery owner from Tulsa, Oklahoma. She is coaxed by Demeter (Goddess of the Harvest) into swapping souls with Demeter's daughter (Persephone--the young Goddess of the Spring). Lina is given a 6 month mission to bring solace and joy to the souls of the dead in the Underworld. Persephone (in Lina's body) will work to increase sales and pay More...

This one's probably closer to 3.5 *s but I really didn't like the ending and that can totally blow it for me. Mostly I liked this one a little bit better than the first in the series (they aren't linked at all other than thematically so can be read in any order I believe). I'm always uncomfortable having Gods as main characters, especially as romantic leads. But when that wasn't squicking me out I enjoyed Lina's story. Much like the first, this is more her story and an empowerment type plot More...

Despite its rather dark nature (rape, kidnapping etc), the myth of Persephone and Hades is my favourite of all the Greek myths. Persephone, in fact, is my favourite goddess, and I have every intention of naming my first daughter after her. That aside, this story takes the myth of Persephone and Hades and plays with it, replacing Persephone, in mind and soul if not body, with Lina, 40-something Okie bakery owner, while the goddess herself moves into Lina’s body and life. The trade sparks a romanc More...
