In order to protect her family she will never tell the truth of her upbringing no matter what kind of emotions stir between them. Derek finds himself captivated by Kelsey and takes her along with him everywhere, risking the chance of getting caught gallivanting with his mistress. He knows that he can’t be seen with a mistress but he can’t help the feelings he feels for Kelsey. After everything is out in the open Kelsey still will not marry Derek because of the scandal involved but then Reggie comes up with the greatest story yet in order to save both the Langston and Malory family from scandal and gives Derek and Kelsey a chance to finally be together, properly.

I have been a Johanna Lindsey fan for a long time and occasionally I like to re-read a few of her books. The other day, I selected this one and was immediately swept away into a different time.

Allow me to preface this by saying that historical romance is not my normal genre of books. I tend more towards fantasy, urban fantasy, YA, suspense, mystery, and horror than I do historical romance, although I do enjoy a good romance or romantic suspense novel every now and again.

Well this book just disapointed me. I love this series, I love Johanna Lindsey, I just could not love this book. I wanted too though! The plot was great, I was all excited for sparks and romance and all that good stuff. However it let me down, there was hardly any dialogue. This made me sad because the dialogue that was there was great!

Also with no dialogue the story would fly within the space of a paragragh almost giving me whiplash. The ending felt rushed. The last 20 pages have so much going...more

About this Book:
This one had a great start. I was intrigued & engaged right from the beginning. Kelsey Langton is a sweet, caring & innocent young beauty who would do anything for her family including sacrificing her heart. Derek Malory is a handsome, charming & responsible young man that is quite happy with his fun, carefree life for the time being. Knowing the day will come when his title of nobility will end his freedom & rule his world, he choose to not be tied day one minute before that day. However, he had not expected to meet & fall for Kelsey. If only life were that simple for the ton. Too many secrets, scandals & disasters befall these two that it seems near impossible for love to overcome. However, Derek is a stubborn & determined Malory & they just do not give up that easily especially once their heart is involved. This was a very good read!

P.S. I really enjoyed the private little arguments/debates between the previous Malory couples. It was so funny & endearing to get a glimpse of my favorite couples meddling in the new couples love story. To revisit their chemistry & dynamic as they debate what Kelsey & Derek's future should entail. Loved it! (less)

Isn't this adorable? No, it's not adorable. Just really boring for me. This reminds me of how diseased Julia Quinn's Bridgertons became with Super-Cute-Family-itis, only I started this one right in the middle of the shenanigans instead of slowly watching the story devolve into absurdity as I did with the Bridgertons.

You're probably reading my complaint and thinking, "Rachel, just read them in order." Well, it's too freaking late, for starters. But also, shouldn't any stand-alone book in a series be capable of getting at least 90-95% of the story line from new material? That was my problem with the constant invasion of the Malory clan, the hero's family, in this book. Peripheral characters that already had their own books crowd and muddle the works, distracting me from the people the story is actually about. At so many points, these previously established, sickeningly happy characters robbed the agency from the protagonists. Who needs a hero to save the day when his big bad uncles, who are totally tough and used to be rakes, can do it for him? Why make a heroine face her self-esteem issues when the hero's clever cousin can snap her fingers and make all the scandal go away?

In short, the Malory family is one big, annoying deus ex machina. It really held the story back for me.

SUMMARY:
Say You Love Me is supposed to be about Lord Derek Malory, a future marquis who's supposed to be quite a ladies' man but never really displays that trait. He comes across Kelsey Langton, a real lady dressed up as a prospective mistress, at some high-priced (probably illegal) auction where wealthy men can buy a virgin mistress in a contract that brings to mind slavery. When a man that Derek knows is cruel and violent starts bidding on Kelsey, Derek does the honorable thing and ... buys her for himself! But of course! That's the only way they can have teh smexy times. Obviously Derek and Kelsey are meant to be, and it's one long journey of them being perfectly pleasant with each other (no joke) while the Malory family makes wise-cracks and summarizes their own history until the ultimate happy ending.

Lindsey's writing isn't bad. I loved the interactions between Derek and Kelsey because they do make a cute couple. The plot just ended up getting all wrapped up in Derek's freaking family, and I didn't care about those people. At times, Kelsey disappears for generous portions of the book so the reader can visit with past characters. It zapped all of the suspense and fun out of the story.

Since Lindsey's writing managed to keep me interested, I'll try another of her books, but you can be sure that I'll check and double-check that the book isn't apart of a series. Fiddlesticks, this one almost put me into sugar shock. (less)

I really enjoyed Derek Malory's story. I am getting a bit tired of obnoxious James Malory as I read the series in order. His focus on fighting is tiresome and he comes off as an immature low class street brawler.
Sure there are unrealistic aspects of this story--buying a person means they are a Slave--and no one was appalled at that in the Malory family and demanding that Kelsey be released from bondage immediately. But I have now learned to suspend reality and just enjoy the story's which are su...more

There were parts of this book that I really loved. To be honest, I'm a little surprised that I didn't like it more than I did. And I can't exactly put my finger on what it was about this book that made me rate it 3 stars instead of 4. I did find all the checking in with the Malorys from the previous novels a little tedious and annoying. I'm not reading the book to see what the heroes and heroines from Malory #1-4 have been doing. Kisah Malory paling romantis! Gimana tidak, Derek bener-bener bertindak tanpa cela sekalipun dengan Kelsey yang dibeli dari pelelangan.. ya scara status Kelsey boleh dibilang wanita kelas rendah yang bisa diperlakukan seenaknya apalagi oleh pria bangsawan seperti Derek (walaupun pada kenyataannya Kelsey ternyata seorang Lady). Favorite Mallory novel! Definitely much better than the first four, probably excluding #2 which was Anthony's story. There is much more character development here, and you can perceive the motive driving their behavior. Kelsey is a romance heroine of the type I personally like a lot - pragmatic and reserved. A sign of how much I loved this book.. is that when I picked up a new book to start.. I opened it and hoped it was a continuation of "Say You Love Me". I want more Malorys !!

Overall ceritanya bikin penasaran banget deh ah.
Bisa dibilang hubungan antar Kelsey dan Derek yang terjalin ribet dan unik malah bikin ceritanya bikin penasaran.

Hal yg miris terjadi saat Derek meninggalkan Kelsey dirumah pondok dipedesaan yg sangat kurang akomodasinya untuk menghadiri pernikahan Amy sepupu Derek, sehingga Kelsey harus berusaha sendiri mencari uang untuk membeli makanan. Dan sampai saat bertemu kembali dengan Derek, Kelsey melampiaskan amarahnya pada Derek untuk kemudian pingsan dalam pelukan Derek karena demam. Dan setelah itu dimulailah hubungan terlarang mereka yg cukup membuat perasaan Derek tergugah.

Hubungan mereka terus belanjut. Perasaan Derek sangat posesif terhadap Kelsey. Derek memperlakukan Kelsey tidak seperti pada wanita simpanan pada umumnya. Disiang hari Derek membawa Kelsey berjalan jalan bersamanya sehingga mereka bertemu dengan teman teman Derek. Bahkan Regina sepupu Derek sempat menjalin persahabatan dengan Kelsey dan mengundang Kelsey kerumahnya untuk menghadiri jamuan makan malam saat Kelsey diperkenalkan sebagai sepupu teman Derek, Percy.

Dirumah Regina, Kelsey bertemu dengan sebagian anggota keluarga Malory termasuk James dan Tony berserta istri istri mereka. Dan semua pria keluarga Malory terutama suami Regina mengetahui status Kelsey yg sebenarnya.

Saat Derek dan Kelsey bertemu Ashford yg masih menyimpan niat dan dendam terhadap keduanya, Derek meningkatkan kewaspadaanya dan meminta bantuan paman James. Sehingga Ashford selalu diintai oleh anak buah paman James. Dan saat Kelsey lengah dan diculik Ashford untuk disiksa dirumah pedesaan Ashford, anak buah James yg sigap memberitahu James sehingga James, Tony, dan Derek menyerbu kediaman Ashford. Ashford dibuat tak berkutik dan para wanita yg disekap Ashford menjalankan aksi balas dendam mereka terhadap Ashford.

Satu masalah telah selesai dan Derek yg tidak ingin kehilangan Kelsey meminta Kelsey untuk menikah dengan Derek dan ditolak Kelsey dengan alasan skandal yg akan dihadapi Derek dan keluarganya. Saat liburan natal di Haverston, dihadapan seluruh keluarga, Derek menyatakan niatnya untuk menikahi Kelsey. Terjadi kontroversi diantara seluruh keluarga yg mengatahui dan tidak mengetahui identitas Kelsey sebagai simpanan. Jason yg tidak ingin timbul lagi skandal karena sebentar lagi skandal tentang perceraiannya dengan istrinya akan segera merebak, sangat tidak setuju karena posisi Kelsey sebagai wanita simpanan yg dibeli dalam pelelangan dihadapan beberapa pria bangsawan di London.

Disaat pertentangan inilah Derek akhirnya mengetahui identitas wanita simpanan ayahnya dan juga ibu sejatinya. Wanita itu adalah Molly, pelayan kehormatan keluarga Malory yg telah 25 tahun mengabdi di keluarga Malory di Haverston. Dan timbul pemahaman diantara ayah ibu dan anak diantara mereka.

Pertentangan dan kehebohan terjadi lagi saat bibi Elizabeth datang ke Haverston untuk meminta kembali keponakannya Kelsey dari tangan Derek. Dan akhirnya diketahui kalau Kelsey ini bukan sembarang gadis. Kelsey adalah putri bangsawan yg diharapkan untuk melahirkan putra yg nantinya akan mewarisi gelar duke beserta kekayaan yg tak sedikit jumlahnya. Namun pernikahan tetap dianggap bukan jalan keluar dari permasalahan. Derek tetap pada pendiriannya untuk menikahi Kelsey. Bahkan Derek berterimakasih pada paman Kelsey yg telah mempertemukan mereka. Most of the books I've read by Lindsey have been "read" via audiobook. I have to confess, I feel that my reviews of the books were influenced by the person who read them. This is one of those novels that has you smiling even after you have finished and placed it back on your shelf. First of all, it is very realistic, especially historically. I cannot tell you have many historical romance novels I have read that is completely of sex. Not only that, but they make the female protagonists out to be strong, independent woman who are so unique against the rest of society that the man immediately falls for her because she is different.

I did not like it at all
the book is big ,the pages are a lot and the story is booooring.
I have to say i couldn't finish the book , i stopped in the middle of the book
i forced myself to read . I think it held me back from reading other books .

I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this Mallory book. Did not think I would care to much to hear the stories of the younger set, but this was just great. Derek is really competing to be my favorite Mallory. Still can't wait to read Jeremy's story!!! Looking forward to the continuation of this series when usually tire of series that run on this long!!!

Very enjoyable story. Good characters and good plot.

The only hesitation I have is a warning that there is a bad guy who tortures women. The descriptions of this were unsettling and stayed with me for awhile after reading the book. However, I am still glad I read it.

Sexual language: mild. Number of sex scenes: three. Setting: about 1815 London. Copyright: 1996. Genre: regency romance.

I would have given this a higher rating if the author delved deeper into the story or at least the main characters. I don't know it was very in-between for me personally. I liked the story but I felt it was missing something.
