Hesse erhebt Giovanni Boccaccio, indem er sich selber klein macht. Boccaccio habe zehnmal besser schreiben können als er. Aus der Vita des Poeten sei wenig überliefert. Hesses Essay gerät schmal. Zwei Drittel des Textes nehmen auch noch die Besprechung des Dekameron ein. (wikipedia)
