Heart of Gold was another solid story from Jessica Bird (aka J. R. Ward). It's a contemporary romance with just a touch of mystery and suspense. Ms. Bird has a history of writing unique characters and elements. In this case, the heroine is an archaeologist and her latest dig is the centerpiece of the story. Having always been a fan of history and archeology, I enjoyed this part a lot, especially the mystery of the missing gold. The heroine also has an antagonist in the fo

Heart of Gold Well, it was better than Leaping Hearts, but still not par with her latest work under the name of J.R. Ward (though we're talking about two completely different genres).Once again I found myself hating the heroine. Her reasoning was rather narrow-minded, she loved double-standards, she simply couldn't make up her mind about herself, her father, the hero...Everything. I simply couldn't stand the woman.

I loved Nick (the hero, though). Despite all his flaws, his cold mask, and his tem

....listen to Neil Young's HEART OF GOLD for some good background music while reading this book. Simplistic, it gives you a flavor of what both the hero and heroine's character is like. Now, on to the review.

Jessica Bird is a pseudonym for J.R. Ward of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. Heart of Gold was published in 2003 and it has an alpha male and some of the wit and tension of the earlier Brotherhood books. A contemporary romance, it is the story of Carter Wessex

J.R. Dopo Una Donna Indimenticabile

There is a pretty big distinction in the writing when I read a Jessica Bird book as opposed to a J.R. Ward book. It also shows how much the author has grown into her own voice as a writer. With HEART OF GOLD, her second book ever published, I found the story to be a thrown together. Don't get me wrong, it was still cute but there was no originality and the conflicts were weird and felt like they were building up to something big that never came and the

The second book of this author has been re-released after the success of her two series. I am very happy with that, because it is a wonderful book that is easily and fun to read. I could hardly put it down.
Nick and Carter are matched against each other. The discussions between the two are well written. The other people in the book are written down as real persons. Like people you can just walk into in real life. Also funny to see people come along, whom in later books will be the main characters

Inhalt :

Letzteres hat mir richtig gut gefallen, ...more

My first contemporary adult romance and I must say it was a cute read. J. R. Ward is infamous for her romance novels and when I requested to read more adult books from the publisher, this was the one my contact recommended. And I’m real glad she did.

I’ve stayed away from romance novels only because I thought I would be incredibly cheesy and corny and I would end up rolling my eyes at the one liners and predictable plots. Sure all those things happened when I read Heart of Gold but after going th

This book is the second book J.R. Ward wrote her first book was Leaping Hearts. Eventually she went on to write several other "normal" romance novels before her Black Dagger Brother hood and Fallen Angel series. Don't be discouraged to read these books. When I first saw these books being released I was hesitant at first as well. I love her BDB series and didn't think these books could live up to how I felt about them. The first book I read was Unforgettable Lady (I will try and find my reviews a ...more

Carter Wessex has just had the dig of a lifetime dangled before her. A promising young archaeologist, Carter loves a good mystery and a challenge. But she’s going to get both, in spades, with Nick Farrell.

Nick owns a good parcel of land, including Farrell Mountain which, legend tells, is the final resting ground of Revolutionary War soldiers and the gold that got them killed. But Farrell, a renowned businessman, has never given permission for authorities to dig on his mountain. He has even gone

She pens gold no matter the genera! I immensely enjoyed Heart of Gold, one of JR Ward’s non-paranormal romance books. I loved both main characters Nick and Carter, they are both strong independent people that just really aren’t looking for more in their personal lives, but of course fate always has other plans. Another character I loved and really hope to see more of is Nick's nephew, Cort. He was a very strong presence-outspoken, sweet, and he certainly was not one to let things pass with out m ...more

Now that J.R. Ward has found rousing success with her Black Dagger Brotherhood and Fallen Angels series, it looks as if she is delving into the writing past and bringing back her early works with new, pretty covers.

Only problem is, she's not bringing them back in order. :(

Heart of Gold is the second of four books Ward first wrote under her maiden name of Jessica Bird, and none of these books belong to a 'series' per se, but they are all connected to each other in some fashion, although you can r

Author aka J.R. Ward (Black Dagger Brotherhood, warrior vampires)

Being a big fan of J.R. Ward's BDB series, her earlier romance books written as Jessica Bird caught my attention.

Leaping Hearts, set in the competitive horse jumping world, was more enjoyable and more sophisticated than Heart of Gold.

H of G was formulaic - the hero is a wealthy corporate raider, drop dead gorgeous handsome, cynical about life and women ... the heroine is an archaeologist and academic who wants to dig on his land. T

"Carter...

I can't say that I was deeply intrigued with this book by any means. I found it to be too soft and fluffy of a romance for my taste. I like a bit more pace in the plot and more mystery with the romance. The story was an okay one if you are reading it only for the love story with the rest being just background to you as a reader, which like I just said, I like some mystery or a heavier underlying plot with my romance reads, so this was not a book for me. The writing was very well done and the cha ...more

Overall I enjoyed this book. The storyline dragged me in despite the issues that I had with the character descriptions in the beginning. Carter Wessex's issues with her rich father and how they affect her life and self and how the bits were written seemed too drastic of reactions. As a result of how drastic the results were, I thought that the bits that were focused on (the necklace and the mirrors) would mean something later on but they didn't. Nick Farrell was unrelenting in what he believed w ...more

This is a Contemporary Romance novel, you don't find too many books that concentrate on Archaeology. Carter Wessex (am I the only one that finds Carter as a weird name for a girl?) is an archaeologist, interested in putting together a dig on land owned by Nick Farrel. Nick Farrel is a Corporate Raider, he cares for his nephew Cort. Nick have an instant dislike for each other. Nick doesn't like anyone going up on his mountain. Nick has a pretty rocky relationship with Cort, he seems to think he h

That's it, no more Jessica Bird for me! This is the second book of her that I read and it's not as bad as the Bachelor one but still, I just can't bare her female protagonists. I almost quit reading the book a dozen of times because Carter is such an irritating and spoiled bitch. No mencioning she's a drama queen. And Nick is just ok, there's no way to compare him to the guys of the Blackdagger Brotherhood or any Lisa Marie Rice's alpha guys.

This is one of J.R. Ward’s first books. You can tell she’s still getting a hang of her storytelling process. The story-line is a bit all over the place and it’s missing the action of Ward’s other series. Nevertheless, her writing is still there and it’s a tolerable contemporary romance. The best part of the book is Ward’s letter to her fans about the book. I always enjoy an author discussing her writing process.

Jessica Rowley Pell Bird was born on 1969 in Massachusetts, USA. She is the daughter of Maxine F. and W.
