I fell in love with the plays on words and how childlike the poems were. It didn't take a whole lot of thinking to interpret the poems, because it was all there, clearly stated in the poem.

I was so skeptical when it first came out because his first two collections were so beloved. Now, I love reading this one to kids--especially 'The Deadly Eye of Poogly Pie" and "Stupid Pencil Maker."

Hilarious poems accompanied by Silverstein's distinctive pen-and-ink drawings.
Accessible poetry that kids (and immature adults) will love!

Shel Silverstein is such a good author he is really good at making poems funny and interesting definetly a good read if you need a smile... "Millie McDeevit screamed a scream
So loud it made her eyebrows steam.
She screamed so loud
Her jawbone broke,
Her tongue caught fire,
Her nostrils smoked..." this is just a look at one of the many laugh out loud poems in this book

Like any She Silverstein; everyone is bound to love this delightful collection of poetry. It still contains Silverstein's dry humor and different view of life and never forgets that the children come first. A winner with any crowd.

Silverstein never lets up, his poetry is fun as ever. It amazes me how good they are actually, looking at it from a more grown up perspective, children need stuff like this in their lives.

Shel Silverstein is a genius. He was the essence of my childhood, and I'm sure I'll still be reading him from time to time; even when I'm 90.

My 2-year-old will sit with Shel Silverstein for longer than I can handle reading aloud. (I once was able to go cover to cover twice)

We read over half of the poems. Some I liked a lot and some I didn't like at all!

I remember liking this book much more as a kid but even then I felt like maybe he could work a little harder on his poems. A lot of the time they don't seem very well thought out or need more follow through. After about 10 pages I feel like I'm getting bored. I love silly, I'm a big fan of silly but sloppy silly is not that impressive. I feel like a lot of people say they like his books that don't actually dig them cause it's like saying you don't like silly. Just my opinion.... Don't get me w...more
